End of Semester One

This semester has been an incredibly challenging time for staff, students and families. COVID-19 has

affected all of us in differing ways and these school holidays are certainly well earned for all.

I need to once again acknowledge and thank our staff for the incredible job they did, unsure of what lay

ahead and with no notice. Well done to our students for still working hard from home and working with

their teachers in such a challenging situation. Thank you also to our families and community for

supporting us, working alongside us and trying so hard to keep your children learning, despite the

incredibly difficult scenario that was thrust upon you.

Our students have all returned to school displaying increased resilience, determination and independence

towards school life. We continue to work hard to ensure our kids’ social, emotional and mental wellbeing

is supported and welcome our families to come and discuss any ongoing concerns at any time. Our doors

are always open.

The extra curricular activities that Terms 1 and 2 would normally be packed into our daily schedules, did

not happen. As advised, the cancellation of most events for the year has left our calendars empty,

however we anticipate that the continuing relaxing of restrictions will open the door for some activities to

start happening again in Term 3. We will advise as soon as we know, and appreciate your patience.

I wish all of our families a restful and happy break over the holidays. I hope all families can participate in

some really fun activities as a family unit.

School resumes for staff on Monday July 20, and for students on Tuesday July 21.

Have a fabulous week!

K-2 Excursion

Due to recent events, the Stage 1 excursion has had to be rescheduled.

This rescheduling has moved it into October. The decision has been made

to combine the Kindergarten and Stage 1 excursions.

At this current time, the excursion will be a day trip to Toowoomba’s

Empire Theatre to watch the stage performance of The Gruffalo’s

Child. This excursion may be subject to change depending on the

Department guidelines for excursions as well as the re-opening of

Queensland borders and the Empire Theatre.

Further information will be available as we move into Term 3.

Home Learning Booklets

If your child was working from a booklet during the Home Learning earlier in the term, you must send it

back in with your child. Teachers are using these booklets to complete the marking of our rolls from this

time. Not returning booklets will result in students being marked absent. If you have not yet returned

these to the class teacher, please do so as soon as possible.

Seesaw

Great learning continues to happen over Seesaw. Please check in and see what your

child has been doing. Remember to download the Family app and ask your teacher for

the code to join your child. This is a great way to connect with them about their

learning and support them from home.

TSHPMPS Learning Support Team

QUICKSMART Mathematics is up and running well. The aim of QuickSmart is to help our students become

automatic (quick) in their basic skills in order to move onto more complex problem-solving skills (smart).

Our students have been working hard during their 3 day/30-minute sessions to improve their

AUTOMATICITY. Can you answer your number facts in under 2 sec? Our 10 QuickSmart’ies’ are well on their

way to achieving this goal.

ESL (English as a Second Language) classes are helping us strengthen our vocabulary

each week, in particular understanding of Grammar and its use. This assists in making

our reading comprehension, writing and speech stronger. We learn through shared

readings, games and focused Grammar tasks. Mrs Boaden is learning a little ‘Tagalog’

along the way thanks to Ivann too!

MINILIT is run daily which covers word attack skills and sight words to

strengthen students’ literacy skills. The NSW Centre for Effective reading

program is being run three times a week which is a form of intensive

support to assist with reading and decoding. We have also had 12 students

participating in the ‘Stormbirds’ program, which is designed for children

who have experienced natural disasters. It offers them the opportunity to

share their experiences, understand and attend to their feelings and learn

skills for adapting and recovering. Students involved in these programs

have demonstrated growth and we are lucky that we are able to offer our

students these opportunities.

IHS (Itinerant Hear Support) classes are a lot of

fun. We work hard practicing our reading,

comprehension, sentence writing, spelling and

learning new ‘squid’ sight words. Our AUSLAN is

building with new word and we are strong finger

spellers.

Jessie is truly an inspiration in our learning

journey together.
