We are workers together with Christ
Where has the summer gone? It is September and the fall season is just around
the corner. It is time for cool nights and football season. It is also time for schools to open and college has already started. Although seasons change, God is always the same and is with you. I hope you have felt
His presence as you have enjoyed the things summer has to offer. We have enjoyed the warmth and many things growing. We have enjoyed the outdoors and vacations. God has provided all we have enjoyed and will continue to be with you as the seasons change and our routine changes. Stop and remember what God has provided, is providing and will provide you. Give God some time to refresh you and enjoy life each day. Pastor Calvin

Welcome to Ginger and Brian
Van Atta into membership of
Singleton United Methodist
Church
On August 19 we had the great
pleasure of having Mission
Speaker = Allison Malise speak
to us about Bread For Life .
During Labor Day weekend, God, we pray that all our labors, whether big or small in the
world’s eyes, will glorify you. Amen.
UNITED METHODIST WOMEN – We are
Women in Mission
On June 12, Brownie Bartley, President called the meeting of the United Methodist Women to order with a welcome to the other six members present. She reminded us that we are “Women in Mission.” and we repeated the traditional purpose. Ginger VanAtta brought the Devotions about Angels. She shared scripture from Acts, Chapter 5 and several thoughts from Rev. Billy Graham and Greg Lorie. A general conclusion was reached that many people believe in Angels today because there are many angels watching over God’s people. Our Prayer Calendar focus this month was the new Bethlehem Center in Augusta, Georgia. Hattie West brought the Mission Moment reminding us that a community thrives when women thrive. Our mission giving is very important when added to the Conference Giving Report which includes all five jurisdictions across the US. We are a part of the Southeastern Jurisdiction who gave a total of $4,529,054 to missions for the calendar year ending December 31, 2017. Koins for Kids is being held now, August through September with church congregation participating and soon we will be having candleburning with participation from the congregation as well. In December chocolate covered cherries will be made with one half of the monies collected going to Three Rivers Healthy Family Services and one half going to another designated charity. A new Fall Jelly Bean Catalog wll be available soon. Snack-Pac will begin probably in October. Watch the bulletin for dates to come and
help participate in the wonderful program. The UMW of Singleton truly appreciate the generosity of the Joyful Hands Ladies Circle of Severn Church for their most gracious gift toward our Snac-Pac program. This will be a great blessing to the children as well as to our program. Donna Griffin brought the June Program concerning Creation. She began with God’s creation and then talked about various items that we as individuals can create. She stressed how items made in Vacation Bible School can be so meaningful. We all could relate to that. Donna then provided containers to all present to decorate and then plant seeds to later make mint tea (recipe provided).. We shared our joys and concerns, and then we lit candles for those friends and loved ones that are in need of our prayers. As we share, we are always lifted by God’s spirit! All ladies are invited to join us on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00. We are a caring, praying, supportive group of women, and we welcome YOU anytime!! If you have any questions about UMW, just ask any member, or call Brownie. God Bless…….Brownie Bartley, President
“Is anyone among you in
trouble? Let them pray. Is
anyone happy? Let them sing
songs of praise” (James 5:13,
NIV). In this holy time and
space, we express prayers for the
hurting as well as songs of joy.

Angels from a child’s perspective:
I only know the names of two angels, Hark and Harold. Gregory, age 5 Everybody's got it all wrong. Angels don't wear halos anymore. I forget why, but scientists are working on it -Olive, age 9 It's not easy to become an angel! First, you die. Then you go to Heaven, and then there's still the flight training to go through. And then you got to agree to wear those angel clothes. -Matthew, age 9

A legacy of faith
National Grandparents Day became an official
observance in 1978, thanks largely to the lobbying
efforts of Marian McQuade, a West Virginian who had
15 children and 43 grandchildren during 60 years of
marriage.
The purpose of National Grandparents Day, celebrated
on the first Sunday after Labor Day, is threefold: to
honor grandparents, to give grandparents an
opportunity to show love for their children’s children
and to help children become aware of strength,
information and guidance older people can offer.
Grandparents — and, in this mobile society, surrogate
grandparents — also serve as examples of how to
endure challenges with God’s help. Elders describe
how God remains present, faithful and steadfast
throughout the years. As Psalm 145:4 (NIV) says,
“One generation commends your works to another;
they tell of your mighty acts.”
