The Science of Neglect – Effects of Consistent Lack of Care by Parents on Children's Brain Development & Overall Child Development Extensive biological and developmental research over the past few months at Baby Bliss has generated substantial evidence that young children who experience severe deprivation or significant neglect— defined broadly as the ongoing disruption or significant absence of caregiver (mother or father) responsiveness—bear the burdens of a range of adverse consequences. Indeed, deprivation or neglect can cause more harm to a young child’s development than overt physical abuse, including subsequent cognitive delays, impairments in executive functioning, and disruptions of the body’s stress response. Here are some of the simple things parents can do to be mindful of how they interact with their children: 1. Show affection: There is no limit on how much and how often you can show affection towards your child. A gentle run on the back, a warm smile, or an encouraging word 2. Use Kind Words: Words have the power of healing or hurting. Use positive, gentle and nourishing words. 3. Smile: Expressions on the face have a very important effect on the child. The more you smile, the more your child will smile back at you and not frown on you. 4. Setting boundaries: It is important to set boundaries for children. If you do not want them to do something, give them another option.

The Science of Neglect – Effects of Consistent Lack of Care by Parents on Children's Brain Development & Overall Child Development

Extensive biological and developmental research over the past few months at Baby Bliss has generated substantial evidence that young children who experience severe deprivation or significant neglect—defined broadly as the ongoing disruption or significant absence of caregiver (mother or father) responsiveness—bear the burdens of a range of adverse consequences. Indeed, deprivation or neglect can cause more harm to a young child’s development than overt physical abuse, including subsequent cognitive delays, impairments in executive functioning, and disruptions of the body’s stress response.

Here are some of the simple things parents can do to be mindful of how they interact with their children:

1. Show affection: There is no limit on how much and how often you can show affection towards your child. A gentle run on the back, a warm smile, or an encouraging word

5. Don’t Shout: Raising your voice with children creates fear in them. Fear creates dangerous toxins in the brain, causes behavioral change and most importantly will stop your child from being honest with you about anything.

A few kind gestures go a long way towards brainy & healthy Children. Effective interventions are likely to pay significant dividends in better long-term outcomes in learning, health, and happiness of your child.
