Yes, Networks are changing faster than ever before...
One size no longer fits all, costs and benefits have tobe optimised down to every site, application, and user.
The intelligent hybrid network comes of age.
Networks are the information highway and a foundation of competitive advantage.
We’re expecting to use applications and access information
wherever they are hosted, from wherever we are.
The integration of networks and cloud is becoming key.
Applications are moving to the cloud.
Lightning fast configuration of networks through SDN and NFV.
Organisations are moving to cloud services, but still require
reliability, management of legacy, flexibility,
performance and security from their connectivity.
With BT…networks think.

our new 5 year IT solution for Walgreens Boots. Direct connectivity to Salesforce, through Cloud Connect, providing highly predictable performance and reliability
3 new Internet Gateways, taking us to 18 new gateways in 15/16, which all include Cloud Security services
The Role of Satellite in BT Network Connectivity
Part of a joined up BT Connect Portfolio, used to complement terrestrial
• Customer Wants Terrestrial, but satellite where no terrestrial alternative
Three key focus areas;
• MPLS Extension
• Added Value; Disaster Resilience, On the Move, On the Pause
• Sustainable Business (e.g. SOS Childrens Villages, SA Wireless, Colombia Schools)
Approach to Growth;
• Fully utilise our assets in UK, Latin America, Turkey, South Africa, USA, Canada
• Customer led, complementing terrestrial reach, identifying complementary partners to work with; e.g. SSA, Japan, Russia, Australia, Middle East
• 10M and above must be deliverable for MPLS extension
• Embrace LEO as a real game changer, with lower latency and high throughput
The Role of EE in BT Network Connectivity
Customer Wants Terrestrial and EE offers next best connectivity
UK proposition
• EE network is the UK’s biggest and fastest network and can offer bearer technologies of 2G, 3G & 4G
• 4G brings superfast mobile broadband for remote locations and resilience
• Can be rapid “First In” solution, while terrestrial delivery completed
Rest of World;
• Working with partners, service can also be provided in Europe, Latin America, parts of Asia
• Working on other areas

BT Satellite Capability and Assets
UK BT Madley:-Worlds biggest Earth Station (src: BBC)-Operating since 1978->60 Antenna, varying sizes up-to 32m in size-Ku and C band -OnNet MPLS and Public Internet POPs on site-24*7 onsite service desk
RoW:-Earth stations in 6 Latam countries-Earth station in Turkey with Middle East, Asia reach-Earth station in South Africa with SSA reach-Earth stations in North America and Canada
Partner VSAT networks:-12 partners across Americas and AMEA, where VSAT must be domestic, or filling in regional capabilities and offshore
First major operator to adopt iDirect and now use as standard to provide IP Connectivity. Gilat and Hughes also suported 11
The role of Satellite in our network and service strategy
Satellite is never the first choice
•High latency ~ 500 ms round trip
•Lower availability – rain fades
•High cost per unit bandwidth
But remains the only way to deliver
•To remote location or locations which move
•Where terrestrial network is unable to deliver reliability or speed
•Where geopolitical issues impact terrestrial delivery
Satellite: Our approach
- Our strategy is to provide cost effective terrestrial connectivity where our customers want it and to this end
we are continually expanding our network via new PoPs, new access providers and NNIs
- For Satellite our primary goal is to integrate satellite access into our key product offerings to enable reach in
inaccessible locations.
-We do this through a mix of owned capability with earth stations across LATAM, USA, Canada, UK, Turkey
and South Africa – along with strong relationships with selected partners to compliment this coverage.
-We use these capabilities and partnerships to deliver stand-alone VSAT solutions as well as hybrid satellite /
terrestrial networks – and we have this capability around the globe.
-Working with MEO operator O3b and new LEO operators, 2019 onwards, for low latency satellite proposition.
