A Cry for Help Begins a Quest for Safety that Now Protects Millions of Kids!

Fifteen years ago Mark and Valerie Publicover heard their children cry out for help from the backyard. A friend, Nicole, had fallen off the trampoline and was seriously hurt. Mark recalls, “After Nicole was rushed off, I walked back to my home office and broke down; I was so upset with myself for not having done something sooner. Right there I prayed, knowing that Nicole was in God’s care, and I felt moved to build a trampoline safety net. Thankfully, Nicole recovered quickly and, after much hard work, JumpSport® became the first company to sell a safety net that easily fit on all backyard trampolines. Within a year, major retailers like Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and Costco began selling them to families across America.” And now, 15 years later, our safety net innovations are protecting millions of kids every day!

That was just the beginning of JumpSport’s efforts to improve trampoline safety. In 1998, Mark had a second Ah-ha moment. “I landed awkwardly on my right leg just as the trampoline bed was bouncing back up and sustained a minor break. I knew I shouldn’t have been jumping at the same time as my kids, but I was still surprised that a few kids could generate enough bounce-back force to injure me. Right away, I began working on ways to create a trampoline with a much safer jumping surface, and when the idea for the DoubleBounce™ Safety System dawned on me I knew it would provide exceptional safety.”

JumpSport’s contributions to the protection of children were so noteworthy that JumpSport Inc. was specifically singled out and invited to become one of just 35 founding members of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Product Safety Circle.
