Preliminary Task: The Rules

Reminder of the Task

• Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule

Before filming you MUST have produced:

• A detailed storyboard for every shot planned (at least 20 shots)

• An animatic with timings, effects & camera movements applied

• Musical score/ voiceover/ sound effects/ dialogue to accompany animatic

Rules

• Plan, film & edit at least 20 shots• You cannot appear in your own production• You will be filming during a 100 minute lesson

slot – you may take the camera off site in this time BUT locations will be limited due to time constraints. Cameras cannot be taken home overnight or at weekends for the prelim task

• Get permission for filming people & locations
