The Ruffed Grouse Society Announces The 29th Annual South Eastern Pennsylvania Field Day Hosted By The Charles E. Bechtel Chapter-Reading, Pennsylvania Saturday – April 6 th , 2013 At Game Lands 210 Time: 9:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The Bechtel Chapter has always been about creating and improving habitat. One of the best ways to improve habitat is controlled burning. The Ruffed Grouse Society (RGS) has been invited by Dave Henry, Regional Forester of the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC), to join him on Game Lands 210 to hear the latest about the PGC burn policy and activity. So come and join us at our annual field day. We will meet at the Parking Lot at the East end of State Game Lands 210 at 9:00 am (directions are below and you can download a map from the RGS web site) for light refreshments and to reminisce about past hunting seasons. You will receive a welcome from the Bechtel Chapter, hear about Chapters activities and get a perspective from RGS National Office. Mr. Henry will give us a summary of the activities that are to follow. Since the majority of RGS member have dogs that we run through forests and fields, and certainly have had our dogs caught in traps, the chapter will take this opportunity to educate everyone on how to safely remove our pets from these devices. Mark Weis the most successful and experienced trapper that we could locate, will teach us about leg hold and cable restraint devices. A must see for all hunters that use bird dogs. Once at the burn site Mr. Henry will provide a tour and emphasize the importance of the controlled burns and all of the safety measures that are mandated. We will then share a light lunch prepared by your chapter committee. After lunch we then plant conifer seedlings to improve the overall benefits of the burn site. So wear work clothes, sturdy boots, and gloves and be prepared for the weather conditions of the day. Bring a shovel to help plant the seedlings. Directions to the project site on Game Lands 210 The eastern parking lot on Game Lands 210 is about an hours drive from the Reading area. It is accessed from the intersection of Goldmine Road and Rt 443. Travel North on Goldmine Road approximately 7 miles to the intersection of Rt 325.
