Enjoy the break you need at a Centre that really cares
about its guests
www.britishlegion.org.uk
Every guest staying at one of The Royal
British Legion Welfare Break Centres
has a Service connection. Our Centres
enable serving and former members of
the Armed Forces, their partners and
dependants to spend a relaxing and
enjoyable one to two week break at
the seaside.
Take the break you deserve
Guests may need a break for many reasons including coming to terms with a bereavement, stress
or recovery from an illness. A welfare break can provide relief, relaxation and recovery. For many
people, staying at a Centre could be their first break in years, so every guest is made to feel
welcome from the moment they arrive to the moment they leave.
All of the Centres offer a wide range of facilities to ensure the time guests spend with us is as
comfortable as possible, with plenty of activities to make the stay enjoyable and memorable.
Although each Centre is unique, all Centres have a warm and friendly atmosphere and attentive
staff, dedicated to providing the highest standards of Legion hospitality.
Our Welfare Break Centres do not provide assistance with nursing, personal care or medication.
Guests who may require this level of care are still welcome if their needs can be safely provided by
an accompanying carer and with the prior agreement of the Manager.
To apply for a break at one of the Legion’s Centres, you will need to complete a detailed application
form with the help of one of our trained Caseworkers. If a higher level of care is required please let
us know and we can consider a Welfare Plus Break.
Our Women’s Section provides breaks in approved hotels and guest houses around the country. A
recent extension of the scheme is to a retirement complex in Southern Spain. Full costs for the
client and half-costs for a carer are paid in all cases.
Please contact your local Legion County Office, the Welfare Break Centre nearest to you, or call
Legionline on 08457 725 725 for details of your local County Office.

Our care and facilities make a Poppy Home an ideal homefor ex-Service men and women and their dependants
It’s people who make a home
A Matron/Manager, who is both a Registered Nurse as well as an experienced manager, runs eachHome, assisted by a 24-hour nursing staff and a team of care assistants. Each resident is cared foras the individual he or she is, with a care plan specific to his or her needs, and has a named nurseand/or key worker. Our experienced, highly trained staff care for residents with the respect anddignity you would expect from the Legion.
As well as care, every Home has a range of activities for residents to take part in which areorganised by an Activity Co-ordinator. There are plenty of opportunities to live life to the full, both bydiscovering new interests, as well as maintaining old ones. There is also a licensed bar in eachhome where many residents gather together socially.
Along with residential care and nursing, some Homes offer day care or dementia care and one Homecan accommodate young, physically disabled individuals, tailoring their care very specifically to theirneeds. Each Home is able to provide information about the specific services offered in its“Statement of Purpose”. This document may be obtained upon request. A copy of the Residents’Handbook, which includes a summary of the Statement of Purpose, is available in each resident’sroom.
For further details, please contact the Poppy Home of your choice directly by phoning the numberoverleaf.
