inhabitants

What is CITYNET
First Regional Congress of Local Authorities for Development of Human Settlements in Asia and the Pacific (Y'LAP) – 1982, Yokohama City, Japan

• Created in response to the needs of local governments and local actors in the Asia-Pacific region
• Established in 1987 with the support of UNESCAP, UNDPand UN-HABITAT
• A unique organisation involving various stakeholders:
What is CITYNET?

NGOs, research institutions and private companies
• 119 members, mainly from the Asia-Pacific region in more than 20 countries.(24 members in 1987)

• Recognised as an international NGO with UN-ECOSOC in 1995;
• Received the UN-HABITAT Scroll of Honour in 2002 for work on City-to-City Cooperation;
