hear. Many thanks to coaches Mr Millard and Mr Harris.

(Congratulations Mr Harris on your new arrival also).

Today the Year 12 students travelled to Echuca to the an-

nual Tertiary Information Session (TIS). Now is very

much the time for Year 12’s to begin organising for their

RSC Parents Club

Need Your HELP

T he Rochester Secondary College Parents Club are in

desperate need of volunteers to help with the catering

roster at this years Elmore Field Days.

The dates we are looking to fill are: Tuesday 4th October 8.30

am - 5 pm and Wednesday 5th October 8.30 am - 3 pm.

We are also looking for Emergencies on the following days:

Tuesday 4th, Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th October.

Please contact Michelle Horkings on 0427 841 569 if you can

assist with any of these days.

Head Lice

I t has been bought to our attention that there is at least one

confirmed case of head lice amongst our students. We ask

that you check your child’s hair carefully and, if need be,

treat them using the appropriate methods.

If you have any queries regarding this matter, do not hesitate to

contact the school.

Barbara McCarty, Assistant Principal

Year 12 Update

T his morning our Year 12 VCE and VCAL students

interested in tertiary students went to Echuca for the

TIS (Tertiary Information Service). The process and

procedures of transitioning to tertiary studies for our students

is well under-way.

Next Wednesday evening the 3rd August, is the critical

VTAC information evening at the College. Students will

then start refining their choices if they have not already done

so.

Certainly those students that are looking for employment or

other options should also be starting to look at what steps

they can be taking towards their future and Mr Huddy and

his newsletter page and the career’s noticeboard at school are

important resources.

Mr Huddy, our Pathways Coordinator, is working very hard

and is an important advisor throughout. However, we cannot

do the necessary steps for students - they do have to take

responsibility and do the applications for entry, scholarships

and SEAS. Mr Huddy is working with some Year 9 students

wanting to do VET subjects, plus working with all Year 10

& 11 students on their 2017 programs.

All Year 12 students will have two study and future planning

skill sessions during school hours on Tuesday 16th August.

The cost will be $15 per student and information will be sent

home soon.

Just a reminder that Edrolo is a valuable resource for stu-

dents’ study programs.

Finally, to sum up the above: Students do naturally come to

the end of their secondary studies – they should be making

the most of the opportunities offered and working hard at

their studies to afford themselves their best options.

Thanks for your ongoing support.

Bill Barkla, Senior School Manager

T his is a great opportunity for all students in enjoy a

hot milo and toast with the assistance of the Salva-

tion Army.

It is held every Wednesday during the school term in the

CVCC from 8.30 am.

Around the College Year 11 Work Experience

L ast week we took fifty-three Year 11 students to Melbourne for work experience and fifteen Year 11 students also

completed a local placement. The Melbourne Camp departed on Sunday 24th July giving the students the chance to use

public transport to find their workplace before heading out the door Monday morning.

Students completed placements in a range of areas including landscaping, surveying, civil engineering, journalism (newspaper

and television), hospitality, business administration, marketing, graphic design, primary schools and child care. The week

went very smoothly, with very positive feedback from the workplaces. Employers genuinely regard our students highly for

their attitude, enthusiasm and use of initiative.

Thanks also to Mr Callaway for running the camp and Miss Westaway, Mr Woodman, Mrs Pellegrino, Mrs Taylor and Mrs

Gray for all their efforts on camp. A very worthwhile and productive week!

Colin Huddy – Year 11 Work Experience Coordinator

Around the College Year 11 Work Experience 2016

L ast week, Jacob and I were fortunate enough to complete work experience at Property Exchange Australia. The compa-

ny is situated on the 35th floor of the Rialto tower, that in itself was an experience. We met and worked with a whole

lot of different people on some amazing projects.

At first we followed Jemma around. She works in the training team. Jacob and I both sat in on a conference call, listening to

Jemma train a conveyancer to use the PEXA platform. After lunch we were handed over to the marketing team to work on a

social media campaign to help promote their new forum called ‘Community’. This mainly consisted of drafting tweets and

posts for their various social media platforms.

On Tuesday we finalised our posts and researched the best and worst times to post online. We also got the privilege of plan-

ning a little surprise to help celebrate the launch of ‘Community’. We first brainstormed some practical but fun ways of cele-

brating the launch. In the end, we ordered big letter balloons spelling out ‘Community’ and a blue piñata with the logo on the

front. We also ordered cupcakes for the PEXA direct workers because they couldn’t make it to the launch.

For the rest of the week, we floated between the marketing team and the events team, helping out wherever we could. This

included making PowerPoints, drafting some more tweets and posts and also making a list of all of PEXA’s past milestones.

On Thursday afternoon, we were invited to the PEXA team meeting. This happens once a month and this highlights the

achievements of the team over the past month. Unlike most meetings, this one was full of jokes and laughter and celebration.

It was here that our balloons and piñata were presented. Thursday also marked the launch of PEXA’s new website and forum,

it was exciting to be in the office during something so significant.

Friday we finished up at lunchtime and quickly fitted in some shopping before heading back to the hotel. Once the bus was

packed and all the kids were on the bus, we were heading home to Rochester.

Our week at PEXA was an amazing experience filled with extremely supportive people. Everyone we met was outgoing and

offered their support and advice. We can’t thank Jemma and Mr. Huddy enough for organising the week for us.

A big thanks to Mr. Callaway, Mr. Huddy for organising the camp and thank you to Mr. Woodman, Mrs. Pellegrino, Miss

Westaway, Mrs. Gray and Mrs. Taylor for supervising and visiting the workplaces.
