You were able to practice your religion

You were not required to serve in the military Instead you paid a “head tax”

You could have high level jobs if you converted to Islam

Minority communities ruled themselves with a millet The millet then answered to

the ruling class

and most feared militaries of the time

Extremely advanced weapons

People of other religion who converted were used in the military

Ottoman soldiers were motivated by the fact that this was a Jihad or Holy War

most feared fighting

groups, The Janissaries,

were entirely Christian Converts F.Y.I.

According to Muslim beliefs if you die for allah you get 72 virgins in the Afterlife

This marked the end of the Byzantine Empire and a high point in the Ottoman empire

It also gave the sultans absolute power over the people

After Suleiman, Sot the Drunk came to power With him came an internal

decline in the aristocracy Internal problems along

with WWI caused the Ottoman empire to disappear
