John 19:38 38 After this, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of

Jesus—but secretly because of his fear of the Jews—asked Pilate that he might remove Jesus’ body. Pilate gave him

permission, so he came and took His body away.

doubts arise in your hearts? Look at My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself! Touch Me and see, because a ghost does

not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.” Having said this, He showed them His hands and feet. But while

they still were amazed and unbelieving because of their joy, He asked them, “Do you have anything

Luke 24:26-27 26 Didn’t the Messiah have to suffer these things and enter

into His glory?” Then beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He interpreted for them the things concerning

Himself in all the Scriptures. Then He told them, “These are My words that I spoke to you while I was still with you —that

everything written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then He

Why does it matter to us?

1. The Resurrection of Jesus is the guarantee of our resurrection

1 Corinthians 15:20-21 20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the

firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also

comes through a man

1 Corinthians 15:35-50 35 But someone may ask, “How will the dead be raised?

What kind of bodies will they have?” What a foolish question! When you put a seed into the ground, it

doesn’t grow into a plant unless it dies first. And what you put in the ground is not the plant that will grow, but only a bare seed of wheat or whatever you are planting. Then God gives it the new body he wants it to have. A

different plant grows from each kind of seed

I Corinthians 15:40-41 There are also bodies in the heavens and bodies on the earth. The glory of the heavenly bodies is different from the glory of

the earthly bodies. The sun has one kind of glory, while the moon and stars each have another kind. And even the stars

differ from each other in their glory.

I Corinthians 15:42-43

It is the same way with the resurrection of the dead. Our earthly bodies are planted in the ground when we die, but they will be raised to live forever. Our bodies

are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory. They are buried in weakness, but they will be

raised in strength. They are buried as natural human bodies, but they will be raised as spiritual bodies. For

just as there are natural bodies, there are also spiritual bodies.

2 Peter 3:10-13 10 But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a

thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and

the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment. Since everything around us is going to be

destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live, looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along.

On that day, he will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames. But we are looking

forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.

Daniel 12:2-3 2 Many of those whose bodies lie dead and buried will rise

up, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting disgrace. Those who are wise will shine as bright

as the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever.
