The Region: TUSCANY, ITALY Tuscany, the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, is home to some of the most recognizable art and architecture including Michelangelo’s “David” and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Vineyards grow on sloping hillsides to provide good sun exposure and drainage, helping to bring the grapes to their full potential. The Wine: In the 1970s, some inventive Italian winemakers undoubtedly had a lot of bravado. They had the confidence to challenge the status quo (and rules) regarding which varietals were allowed to be blended into Italian wines. As a result, the “Super Tuscan” was born. Eclipse Bravado is medium ruby colour with inviting aromas of dried fruit and smoky leather notes. The palate is round and full with rich cherry and plum leading to warm vanilla and a hint of spice. Food Pairing Super Tuscans and meat go hand in hand as a lot of Tuscan dishes feature braised beef or veal. Hearty, meaty wood fired pizza would also complement the wine’s complexity and smoky notes.
