Theology of Salvation: Soteriology God’s creation was good and perfect:

Man’s habitation was carefully prepared to provide for all his needs: physical, emotional and intellectual.

Man was tempted by the devil and sinned (disbelief and disobey) on his own accord. (Enticed by own lust, carried away, conceived, birthed). Sin entered the world by one man and with it the curse: on the devil, man

and even nature. Man was put out of the garden and condemned to death. As a consequence of his fall his original nature was polluted and weakened

and he lost many of the privileges and provisions he had before. Man’s depravation: Total vs. Partial. Original sin and the passing down of the sinful nature and death.

But, God made a gracious promise: Redemption from Adam’s “seed.” Also by one man salvation entered the world and offered to all (whosoevers). Those who believe would be saved through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus.

GOD’S APPROACH TO MAN’S REDEMPTION

Page 7: The redemption of man

ADAM'S ACKNOWLEDGES HIS STATEAND ATTEMPTS TO CORRECT IT

“7 Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths. 8 And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden …, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God …. 9 But the LORD God called … to him, “Where are you?” 10 And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.” 11 He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” 12 The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit …, and I ate.” 13 Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

Acknowledgement and Feeble Attempts to

WHAT IS LACKING FROM MAN’S APPROACH?

A. Underestimate The Problem (The Depravity of Man is pervasive- whole being is polluted,

corrupted)1. Soul (Mind, Brain- Means for Decision-making): Corrupted,

diluted

2. Spirit (Means of interacting with the Life-Giver): Severed connection

3. Body (Means of interacting with the physical world): Sick

THE STATE OF THE UNREDEEMED(EPH . 4 :1 7 -1 9 )

17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind,

18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart;

19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleannesswith greediness.

Page 12: The redemption of man

WHAT IS LACKING FROM MAN’S APPROACH?

B. Underestimate Man’s adversaries(Not easily identified /defeated)

1. The Devil- powerful enemy:

“roaring lion” (I Pet. 5:8)

2. The Flesh- its weakness & powerful appetites (Rom. 6:19)

3. The World- its influence and attraction (I Jn. 2:16; 5:19)

4. Conscience and the Law –Accuse & Condemn (Rom. 7:5)

23 “…but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?”

Rom 5:23-24

TRUTHS ABOUT REDEMPTION

1. Redemption starts with a single transaction:A. The price of Redemption was paid completely at the crossB.The access to God is open. The offer of salvation is available to all men.C.Whosoever believes changes position (death to life); receives the

assurance of salvation2. Redemption is about salvation of the soul and the restoration

of the whole man:A. A clean heart, a renewed spirit. A new body at the resurrectionB.This restoration is a process that starts here and ends there

3. Salvation is the work of God, but man’s will is involved. Redemption also involves the active participation of man1. An expressed desire to be redeemed completely2. Applied spiritual effort to allow God to restore us. Yield to the Spirit of God3. Fight daily the battle of faith with the armor of God4. Allow the Lord to cleanse him daily.

The Redemption Process is not yet finished !!

Page 16: The redemption of man

REDEMPTION PLAN: GOD REDEEMS, MAN RESPONDS & RECEIVES

1. Christ pays for the transgressions of all mankind2. Man hears the “Good News” and Believes in the vicarious sacrifice of

Christ, as our redeemer; repents for his sins and ask for forgiveness (Opp. Choice: Reject)

3. God accepts Christ sacrifice in behalf of the repentant sinner, imputing his sins to Christ and imputing Christ’s righteousness to man.

4. Man endeavors to follow Jesus in word and deed (Opp. Choice: Disobey, Rebel)

5. God begins the process of redemption of the whole of man (Spirit, Soul, Body)

6. Mans obeys God’s Word and avails himself of God’s provision for Redemption(Opp. Choice: Neglect to learn, heed, obey, grow)

7. God completes the redemption work in the resurrection of the dead

8. God removes the curse from creation & restores all things new. (Rom 8:21)

Do I love God exclusively? Do I love God intensely? Do I love God expressively?

With all my Soul Is God’s will my prime motivation? Is God’s law my rule of conduct?

With all my Strength Is all I do done for His glory?

With all my mind Is His law pre-eminence in my thoughts: “I love His Law…”

• 20 But you have not so learned Christ,

• 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus:

• 22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,

• 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

• 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
