President’s Message:

Hi Fun-seekers!

Where's all the snow???? Is this New England????

Preparation, preparation and more preparation. That has been the word for this winter as we get our calendar of events

ready. We intend to make it as good if not better this year, focusing on some new and different ideas with places and

events to keep things fresh and encourage those members in good standing who don't normally participate, to participate.

Check out our Newsletter's Calendar of Events section so you don't miss out on some of the exciting events that are

underway. In late January a group of us made it down to Corvette Mike's in Carver, Ma for a "look see" as well as discuss

and integrate our event calendars with each other. Remember we try to keep things moving and keep the group together in

the winter months as well as cruise season. There is going to be something for everyone this year and with thanks to the

membership offering up suggestions for new events and places to visit. Not to worry, the old favorites that this club was

built on will still be happening. So come on, get off that couch and join in the fun!!! This is our 55th continuous year as a

car club !!!!! WOWZAAHHH !!!!!!!

The February membership meeting was great fun with much to talk about including sizes of surgical incisions and cane

comparisons . Bill Doucette ran away with all the honors with his epic original cane/staff from the Ten Commandments

which happened to fall to the floor and awaken half the membership during the director reports. Good job Bill, keep up the

good work!!!! Dickie has the Cruise Director lingo down which should come in handy when people start inquiring as to

what a Cruise Director does really does? Not to worry Dickie, your job is still protected under the NSCM Bylaws (lol).

Some exciting things on deck for this Cruise Season with the NSCM Gala at Angelica's, Dust Off Cruise to ?????, Fuzzy

Dice 8th Annual Cruise, The Dune's in Ogunquit Maine/ Owls Head Transportation Museum Private Tour, North

Conway, Cruise to Fox Ridge Resort North Conway, NH, Blessing of the Vettes/ Heritage Museum and anything else you

guys can think up. I'm all ears!! In conclusion, the people have spoken and we as a group own this. Your fellow members

have made suggestions and if no one sounds the call, the suggestions will die off. I promise you….. E-Board and I are

committed not only to keep this thing going but to take it to another level of excellence but we need your help. Don't let

me/us down.

I went out to the garage and pulled up the car cover of the " Silver Bullett" and "Ole Blue" today. I heard a yawning

sound from out of my grilles. Twenty five days until Spring BAAABBBBBBEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

Until next time--- Wear those name tags, have fun and keep saving that wave!!

Also as a general reminder the Elks are going to exercise their option of bumping the Thurs., March 22, meeting

to Wed. March 21, 2018 I hope you can all make it.

Greg

P.S. If you don't chirp the tires in second and sidestep in third, that's UnAmerican

Greg

Monthly Membership Meeting Notes:

Monthly Membership Meetings for February 15, 2018

Monthly Membership Meetings for February 15, 2018

President Egavian welcomed the NSCM members at the Wakefield Elks to the February 15th meeting which started at

7:14PM. He then asked everyone to stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. He thanked everyone for attending and

noted that a lot of the members were spending time in Florida this winter, Vice President Liburdi also spending time at

his villa enjoying the 86 degree weather. Greg asked if any new members were in attendance and none noted. He then

introduced the one guest attending the meeting, his son Eric. Greg said Eric is his right hand man, future Prez. of the

Club. Eric received a round of applause from the crowd. Greg went on to say how difficult it is for young people to get

into the corvette hobby, compared to years past. Between the cost of a new one to the high price of a good used vette.

And wages have not kept up with the added cost of purchasing and the added costs of owning a nice vette. Not

something the part time worker can afford.

The President then asked for the reports of the Eboard and the NCM Ambassador. Jim Burns, Treasurer, read his report

and said that the treasury is growing at a good pace and the numbers look good. Joe Generazzo, Membership said there

are 144 paid members so far as compared to 197 last year. He said we lost twenty-six members. The top number was

around 200. Greg said that there is a different outlook now. The club always set the pace in the past. He said that

putting the club business cards on vette windshields and talking to other corvette owners are good PR actions. We can

no longer get lists of owners from registry. The club does have members from the Vineyard up to New Hampshire and

Maine. He concluded that 144 members was very good. The VP was getting a sun burn so no report. Cruise Night

Director, Rich Cialone, said that a group of members went down to Corvette Mike`s for the events meeting for 2018.

Great meeting and a lot of clubs were represented. The Community events will be email blasted as they come up and

also posted on our website along with any flyers. The NCM Ambassador, Karen Blandini, thanked Jim Burns for

reading her report last month. She congratulated the 2018 NCM Hall of Fame inductees; John and Burt Greenwood,

Tom Wallace and Mike Yeager. She said that Tony and herself would be attending and was thrilled that Jim and Elaine

Burns would be joining them this September at the NCM`s 24th Anniversary celebration. She continued the restored

1962 Tuxedo Black Corvette was unveiled at the 4th anniversary of the sinkhole-2/12/18. Well done. Chevrolet and

GM donated two Corvettes to the Barrett Jackson Auction in January-all to benefit Veteran Services. A 2018 Corvette

Carbon 65 Edition, signed by President George W. Bush, sold for 1.4 million dollars to John Staluppi-owner of the

Atlantic Automotive Group. The funds raised will go to the Bush Center`s Military Service Initiative which focuses on

ensuring post 9-11 Veterans and their families successfully transition back into civilian life with meaningful employment

and overcoming the invisible wounds of war. And a 2019 ZR1 serial #1 was sold to Rick Hendrick for $925,000. The

funds raised will benefit the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation which supports wounded veterans through the

building for America`s Bravest program. A big thank you goes out to Chevrolet and GM for their generous donations;

John Staluppi and Rick Hendricks for their generosity and to the benefited programs for their commitment to our

Veterans and their service to our country. The NCM was rated one of the top 10 travel destinations in Kentucky by the

readers of USA Today. Included in the top 10 was Churchill Downs, the Kentucky Derby and Mammoth Caves, not bad

company. Did anyone get a phone call last Thursday? We didn`t either! On 2/8/18 the winning ticket was #18142 and

the winner was Fred Sundberg Sr. of Willow Creek, CA. Thank you all for your support. I guess it`s "better luck next

time.” The President had asked for all reports be accepted after read and all were.

Page 4: THE RED LINE NEWSLETTER - northshorecorvettes.comnorthshorecorvettes.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/March-2018... · 3/3/2018 · President’s Message: Hi Fun-seekers! Where's all

Greg then reopened the meeting. The lottery books are now available. Members can buy individual tickets or take a

book of five to sell. The tickets are ten dollars apiece. The minimum a person can win after scratching the 100 tickets is

$535.00 or the big jackpot. Greg thanked Billy Doucette for the work he put into this for the club. If this has a good

response there could be another one after the winner for this one is pulled on May 8th. People do not have to be present

to win. If all of the tickets are sold then $1000.00 will be put into the treasury.

The President continued that he has met with Rick once for the 55th Anniversary shirts and this could be expensive to

have done with the art work and other things. Corvette Mike is donating some money and we will see if Sylvan Street

Grille would also like to do the same. Their names would be on the shirts. There will be T-shirts for men and shirts for

the ladies. To have a nice shirt it will cost some money and every member will receive one. We are looking at a graphic

with the seven generations of corvettes on it. Jim Burns said that the Ogunquit Maine weekend will be on April 27th to

the 28th, arriving at 4pm that Friday. He and Elaine have been going to the Dunes Hotel for forty years. There will be

an email blast sent out. For information on the Dunes you can go on their website; www.Dunesonthewaterfront.com.

The club will be receiving a special rate for the two nights. Any questions or to make a reservation you can email Jim at

[email protected] or call 617-594-6640. There will be a flyer posted on our website. Also. Greg said the Fox Ridge,

NH weekend will be on June 23rd-24th and based on a ten car booking. For ten rooms the rate will be $400.00 per

room for weekend which includes one breakfast and dinner. This price is based on ten rooms if it is less people then it

will cost more. Let Jim and Greg know as soon as possible so they can plan these weekends. The Gala is in the planning

stages shooting for the 21st of April. The weather hasn’t cooperated on previous attempts of booking. Greg and Jim

need at least one other person to team up with them. Let them know if you are interested. Dustoff Cruise will be on

May 6th

. Patti has some ideas or we can do it on May 5th. Greg continued that on the 5th it could be combined with

another Corvette event. He is still open for any ideas. We need people to get involved in planning and organizing some

events this year as there is a lot going on. The days of having twenty or more cars participate in an event have past.

People have busy lives now and things to do. We have to keep this going, need some fresh ideas, some different events

or something the club went to in the past. We can blast out different ideas for people to get involved. We always have a

great time with each other. Ro McLaughlin said the club always had a big turnout for the Back to the Beach weekend

and used to win the most member trophy. The club should see about getting more interest in things like that too.

Greg then read all the new bylaw changes and additions. He then asked for any questions on any of the new bylaw

changes. He reminded everyone that a change or addition to the bylaws can be brought up at anytime of the year. He

made a motion to accept the changes as presented, and the motion passed unanimously. He then said that memberships

in clubs were faltering. There are no more show and shines and the hobby is changing. Mark Ferri`s father, Karen`s

father in law, passed away. Our condolences and prayers go out to them. Greg asked for any other new or old business

and none was noted. Congrats to Elaine Burns who won the 50/50. A motion was then made to end the meeting at

8:28PM.

These are my views as I see and record it.

MA Law Effective April 7, 2015 Creates New Surchargeable Violation

The MA legislature has passed a new law set to go into effect on April 7, 2015. The new law requires

that you turn on your headlights and tail lights whenever you turn on your windshield wipers. The new

law also requires headlights and tail lights be turned on when visibility is reduced to less than 500 feet.

Failure to follow this new law could result in a ticket AND insurance surcharge.

So please remember to turn on your lights when it is rainy or foggy!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NH Law Effective July 1, 2015

As of July 1, 2015, it will be against the law to drive and talk on a cell phone in New Hampshire unless

you are using a hands free solution such as speaker phone or Bluetooth through your car radio. This

is similar to what the state of Connecticut enforces presently.

11 TIPS TO GET YOUR CAR READY FOR SUMMER

Ben Wojdyla

Guides for winterizing your car pop up like clockwork every fall, but no one ever talks about summer preparation. Thinking about

some sun-drenched driving? Here's how to make sure you're ready.

1. Get Busy With Your Tires Tires are the single most important part of your car. They have an enormous impact on performance and safety, and they're one of the

few components on your vehicle that can kill you if you ignore them. A worn or underinflated set of tires can be detrimental to

handling and braking and can lead to blow-outs at speed. If you own dedicated sets of winter and summer tires, inspect both sets of

rubber as you swap them out for seasonal duty or storage. Even if you use all-season tires, check for bubbles in the sidewalls (usually

a sign of broken belts in the tire's carcass), uneven wear, or visible wear bars. If you see any of the above, replace the tire. Be sure to

look out for missing balance weights — the clip-on or stick-on lead/steel weights that mount to the edge or inside of your wheels.

While you're at it, make sure that your spare tire is properly inflated. Advertisement

Page 8: THE RED LINE NEWSLETTER - northshorecorvettes.comnorthshorecorvettes.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/March-2018... · 3/3/2018 · President’s Message: Hi Fun-seekers! Where's all

2. Check Your Brakes Winter traffic is often much slower than summer traffic, and once Jack Frost shows up, your brakes see a great deal of abuse. Brake

pads often suffer extreme thermal cycling — massive temperature changes due to the high heat of use meeting with freezing water or

deep puddles. Removing your wheels often helps with a brake inspection. If you're technically inclined, remove your brake pads and

check them for significant wear and cracking; if you're not, make sure that their edges aren't crumbling or heavily discolored and that

the your brake rotors or drums have no significant cracking. If you see anything suspect, hit up your mechanic to double-check and/or

replace anything that's worn.

Page 9: THE RED LINE NEWSLETTER - northshorecorvettes.comnorthshorecorvettes.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/March-2018... · 3/3/2018 · President’s Message: Hi Fun-seekers! Where's all

3. Get A Car Wash Winter takes a toll on every part of your car — everything from your brake lines to your engine gets blasted by a constant barrage of

salt, ice, water, sand, and general filth. Interiors become filled with dirt and tracked-in grime. Do yourself a favor and clean your car

top to bottom, inside and out. Use good, high-quality cleansers and high-pressure water on the outside to get rid of salt and trapped

sand, and be sure to hit the wheel wells and underbody. Clean all that junk out of the trunk and remove litter from under the seats.

Vacuum and wash the funk-filled carpets and clean the inside of the windows, which have undoubtedly been smudged when the

defroster couldn't keep up and you used your hands to carve out a peephole. Also take time to properly wash and treat the engine bay.

It may sound unnecessary, but it's much easier to diagnose leaks or aging parts when everything is clean.

4. Check Your Oil Pull out your car's dipstick and check the level and color of the oil — if it's still a pleasant shade of amber and meets the fill mark,

you're fine. If it's amber but low, top it off. If it's black and nasty, change it ASAP. Regular oil should last 4000-5000 miles with no

problem; synthetics should go for 6000-7000 miles between changes. (Both of these are general guidelines and vary with driving

style and climate.)

Page 10: THE RED LINE NEWSLETTER - northshorecorvettes.comnorthshorecorvettes.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/March-2018... · 3/3/2018 · President’s Message: Hi Fun-seekers! Where's all

5. Make Sure Your Coolant Is Cool Inspect your coolant level and coolant mix. The overflow or radiator tank should be full, and a coolant tester available at any auto

parts store will tell you if the water to ethylene glycol ratio (the green or orange stuff) needs to be adjusted for maximum cooling.

Change your coolant at least once a year for maximum performance. Just make sure that Fido isn't around if you spill some — dogs

love glycol's sweet flavor, but it's toxic if ingested.

Page 11: THE RED LINE NEWSLETTER - northshorecorvettes.comnorthshorecorvettes.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/March-2018... · 3/3/2018 · President’s Message: Hi Fun-seekers! Where's all

6. Check The Automatic Transmission Fluid If you drive a car equipped with an automatic transmission, consult your owners manual on how, or if (some cars boast so-called

"lifetime" fluid) you need to check your fluid level. The fluid should be at the level recommended by the manufacturer and a

handsome, bright shade of red. Too much fluid can cause overpressure problems — rough shifting, slippage, and the like — and too

little can burn out your torque converter. Be sure to fill it with the recommended ATF mix as designated by the SAE number in your

manual.

Note: If your car is equipped with a manual transmission, checking fluid level is difficult but not impossible. Jack the car up, crawl

underneath it, and remove the fill plug — usually a recessed plug or bolt in the side of the gearbox housing. On most transmissions,

with the car level, the fluid should just meet the bottom of the plug's hole. Consult your owner's manual for specifics, and if any of

this sounds daunting, there's no shame in asking your mechanic to take a look.

Page 12: THE RED LINE NEWSLETTER - northshorecorvettes.comnorthshorecorvettes.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/March-2018... · 3/3/2018 · President’s Message: Hi Fun-seekers! Where's all

7. Top Off Your Power Steering Power-steering fluid is often overlooked in general servicing, but it's important to keep it topped off and clean. Low steering fluid can

lead to increased steering effort and premature failure of your power steering pump; dirty fluid can lead to premature failure of the

entire system, which is never cheap to fix. Check your owner's manual for specifics on how to check your fluid level. If the fluid is

low, fill to the maximum. If it's dark brown have the power steering system flushed and refilled. Advertisement

Page 13: THE RED LINE NEWSLETTER - northshorecorvettes.comnorthshorecorvettes.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/March-2018... · 3/3/2018 · President’s Message: Hi Fun-seekers! Where's all

8. Eyeball Your Brake Fluid When it comes to your safety, brake fluid is almost as important as tires. Your brakes are hydraulic devices, and brake fluid is little

more than a high-temperature hydraulic fluid. Degradation of that fluid can lead to reduced braking performance or, in extreme cases,

complete brake failure. (Yes, that's right — you won't be able to stop the car. Period.)

Brake fluid is kept in a translucent reservoir near the base of your car's windshield. It should be clear and at or close to the reservoir's

"full" mark. If it's low, fill to that level. If it's dark and grimy, it should be flushed and replaced by an experienced mechanic (an

knowledgeable shade tree mechanic can tackle it in a few hours). Brake fluid is extremely poisonous, so handle it with caution.

Because brake fluid is hydroscopic — it absorbs moisture from the air and loses effectiveness with age — never reuse an opened

bottle.

Page 14: THE RED LINE NEWSLETTER - northshorecorvettes.comnorthshorecorvettes.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/March-2018... · 3/3/2018 · President’s Message: Hi Fun-seekers! Where's all

9. Check Your Battery Modern car batteries consist of lead plates suspended in a water-diluted acid bath. Check your battery periodically to make sure that

its fluid level is up to snuff and that there is no visible discharge or leakage around the battery's top. If you have a sealed battery like

an Optima, you're essentially off the hook, but if you've got a traditional battery, check its fluid levels and fill to the brim using only

distilled water.

Page 15: THE RED LINE NEWSLETTER - northshorecorvettes.comnorthshorecorvettes.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/March-2018... · 3/3/2018 · President’s Message: Hi Fun-seekers! Where's all

10. Fix The Little Things We've all been there: You hit a snow pile or a hidden curb a little too hard and break the air dam, a piece of door trim breaks in

subzero temps when you bump into it, the antenna motor burns out because the mast is frozen in place, the trunk light doesn't come

on anymore... Little stuff that doesn't affect your car's performance or safety breaks in winter and makes your life more annoying.

While you're giving your car a check-up, it's worth your time to bite the bullet and fix these issues. A complete and fully functional

car is a heck of a lot more satisfying to drive than a rattly, clanky one with a hundred quirks.

Page 16: THE RED LINE NEWSLETTER - northshorecorvettes.comnorthshorecorvettes.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/March-2018... · 3/3/2018 · President’s Message: Hi Fun-seekers! Where's all

11. Change Your Windshield Wipers Like most rubber products, wiper blades are usually designed to work best in a specific temperature range. Blades formulated for

warm weather are different — more flexible and efficient but often less durable — from those designed for winter. Winter blades

tend to be more flexible at lower temperatures but too soft at high temperatures, leading to premature failure. Most blades also take a

beating in winter while scraping over jagged ice buildup. No matter how expensive your winter blades might have been, they're very

likely worn out and streaking by spring. Greater visibility equals greater safety and less stress, and wiper blades are cheap insurance.
