balls (bratwurst, cheese, and sauerkraut rolled in a house-seasoned flour, fried to perfection, and served with an ale mustard).

Those are just the starters. Don’t miss out on entrées like The Bre-whaha, a grilled, beer-marinated brat and a smoked sausage atop a bed of kraut served with German potato salad, veggie medley, and ale mustard, or the vegetarian-friendly veggie spaetzle, German-style egg noodles tossed in a creamy mushroom pepper sauce with fresh steamed broccoli, carrots, and squash.

To go with you meal, try some fried apple pie for dessert, and any of their very large variety of both German and domestic beers. For beer connoisseurs, the O’Zapft Is! Bier Club is a great option, since mem-bers receive discounts and can vote for new beers on draught. Two new beers to try this winter season come straight from the Chattanooga Brewing Company: Winter Warmer and Black Lager.

Brewhaus is everyone’s pub, whether you’re wearing coming straight from work, working out, or hanging out with friends. Winter is coming

quickly, so you’ll need a warm, welcoming gastropub with hearty food, robust beer, and good friends. Auf gute

lage und froehliche naechte! (Here’s to a good round of beer and cheerful nights!)

BREwhAUSGASTRoPUB

Chattanooga’s only German-American gastropub rests on Frazier Av-enue atop the North Shore, overlooking Coolidge Park, the Tennessee River, and the Walnut Street Bridge. But what is a gastropub? Brewhaus defines it for us: an “environment with a strong emphasis on chef driven food, paired with good ale & wine, in a casual setting”. The inventive chefs at Brewhaus have developed a menu special to Chattanooga, heavily in-spired by traditional, hale German foods and flavors, but with a southern-American twist in what turned out to be the perfect combination. Their creative menu has a healthy representation of German favorites, South-ern classics, and the necessary sophisticated pub-grub for refined, yet relaxed, tastes.

If you’re not sure what to try first, the Brewhaus Sampler combines three of the most popular starters onto one delicious plate. It’s composed of one oversized German pretzel (soft, salted, fresh from the Bluff View Bakery, and served with their house-made cider mustard, horseradish mustard, and cherry ale mustard), three brat sliders (a lovely combination of the best of German and American favorites), and four signature kraut

The Terminal Brewhouse has be-come a landmark for beer lovers in Chattanooga. Brewmaster Steve Pur-die keeps four of their amazing beers on tap year round, with rotating session beers taking a fifth spot and a sixth filled by seasonal offerings.

The Brewhouse beers may be hu-morously named—Terminally Ale Cop-per Ale, Rock Out With Your Bock Out Maibock—but they’re no joke. These are some of the highest caliber brews made in the region.

Foodies have reason to be enthralled

with The Terminal, too. If they offered nothing but their appetizer menu, that would still be true. Feta-Basil-Pine Nut-Olive Oil Spread on local artisanal bread? Pizza Egg Rolls? Maple-Chi-

potle Pot Roast and Queso Nachos? Yes, yes and yes, please.

For sandwiches, options range from The Macho Man, cajun chicken with hot sausage and pepper jack, to the It’s Al-

ways Sunny In Philly. (And don’t worry, even more care goes into making the food than coming up with the awesome names.)

Their Philosopher’s Burger is a Greek-inspired wonder—ground lamb, seasoned with cinnamon, oregano, shallots and sea-salt-meets-feta aioli and candied red onions. Must we con-tinue?

Yes. Pizzas, steak, short ribs, salmon cakes…OK, OK, you get the point.

Just pay them a visit already.

TERMINALThE

A pub, short for public house, is de-fined in many sources as “an establish-ment where alcoholic beverages are sold.”

Those who frequent a true pub, on the other hand, will tell you that it’s a whole lot more than that. The Hair of the Dog defines the con-cept on their website as “where you go anytime to feel at home and to enjoy a meal and a pint or a cock-tail.” That sounds just about right.

The menu, as one might expect, may be the very definition of “pub grub.” Feel-good favorites are produced in-house, from fried cheese and beer cheese soup to BLTs and patty melts.

Fish and chips, bangers and mash and their Bungalow Pie may be inspired from across the pond, but you’ll feel right at home finishing any of them off.

An extensive list of more than 60 beers is on hand. From familiar domes-tics to craft microbrews and intrigu-ing imports, you’ll no doubt find just the thing to wash down whatever you

might choose from the food menu. There is also a full bar, in case you haven’t yet acquired the taste for the customary pub beverage.

Pool and darts are avail-able upstairs, but like any good pub, there’s plenty of conversation to be had any-where in the building. That’s

true outside, as well—Hair of the Dog has one of the more fantastic patio spaces in the city.

No matter how you’re seeking com-fort, odds are Hair of the Dog is a pretty good place to start.

hAIRoF ThEDoG

When you walk in The Honest Pint, the first thought to enter your

mind may well be, “I hope everything else is as good as the decor.” Seriously.

The interior is stunning, with intricate woodwork and clever repurposing ev-erywhere. The back bar is a work of art in and of itself. Luckily, the food and drinks are as good as the scenery.

The worst part of a trip to The Hon-est Pint is having to choose! Thankfully, with a menu drawn from Irish classics and contemporary American trends, any choice is a great one at the Pint.

Appetizers, for instance, include tater tots fried in duck fat, pimento cheese

fritters and potato pancakes. Have you tried the smoked chicken wings or one of their five variations of boxty?

Entrees range from a traditional Irish roast to a traditional Irish breakfast. Fish tacos represent the more Ameran side of the menu, as do their “Oink Cakes.” (Think crab cakes. Now think smoked pulled pork and forget about the crab.)

The drink list includes a who’s who of Irish and American whiskeys as well as Scotch. Guinness and Smithwick’s pushed with nitrogen (as they should be) are champions of the draught list. Numerous craft and import beers are available by the bottle.

See what we meant about the worst part?

ENzo’SMARkET

Located at the heart of Main Street in the Southside district, there is something so per-fectly unique about Enzo’s Market. Instead of the grab-and-go feeling you get from an aver-age supermarket, Enzo’s provides a welcom-ing, stay-for-a-while atmosphere. But what makes the store exceptional is blend of brand names combined with specialty, organic and lo-cal goods, all at reasonable prices.

Enzo’s grocery selection ranges from the ordi-nary to the extraordinary. The aisles are stocked with products ranging from Cheerios to import-ed olives—and almost everything in between. If you’re looking for fresh produce, Enzo’s has you covered, offering organic, locally sourced fruits and veggies, selected by the Tennessee grow-ing season and availability.

One of t h e

most special features of Enzo’s is its practice of whole animal butchery done all in house. This sets them apart as the only grocery store in this region to offer such a service, and enables them to offer different cuts you wouldn’t normally see in stores. They also boast a fantastic selection of local fish, pork, and beef products.

While visiting Enzo’s, make sure to stop by the Wine Shop. Nestled at the parking lot entrance, The Wine Shop offers a full selection of wines and high-gravity beers and regularly hosts wine tastings. The staff is currently working on food pairings, so that customers can pick an ideal bottle to complement their meal.

Completing the Enzo’s Market experience is the Café, offering a full menu including a coffee bar, bakery, deli salads, sandwiches, smooth-ies, sushi, craft beers and pizza. Enzo’s Café serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Dining in the café or outdoor patio is the perfect way

to begin or end a great day in Chatta-nooga.

In fact, Enzo’s Market is anything but your typical grocery store.

Enzo’s Market offers a box lunch menu with online ordering at their website, as well as full catering capabilities for groups of any size.

ave you ever wanted to eat deli-cious food while at the same time enjoying an endless selection of video games? Or have you ever craved wings with a heaping side

of pool? If so—then Famgablam is the place for you.

“Family”-plus-“Georgia”-plus-“a burst of excitement” is what inspired the name, and each of these are integral parts of what makes Famgablam a fun place to get together. Located in Dalton, Famgablam is a restaurant, game room, and event space that’s ideal for whatever gathering you have in mind.

Want a taste of true family cooking? Famgablam offers Chicago deep-dish pizza, hamburgers, chicken wings and many more options, all made to feed the whole family. The chicken wings are not just the typical “baby” wings you get at

most sports bars; these are Chicago-style full chicken wings and big enough to be on Fred Flintstone’s plate. In the mood for something even meatier? Try the Famous Famburger, made with 100 percent hand-ground beef. When you taste this burger, you’ll know it’s full of flavor, and incompa-rably delicious.

“Everyone that comes here knows us all by name, and we treat everyone that comes like they’re family visiting from out of town,” say the good folks at Famgablam. They offer a fun, safe, and kid-friendly environment that just begs you to load up the car with the kids and head to Dalton. With nothing on the menu cost-ing more than five dollars, why not grab the neighbor’s kids, too?

Check out Famgablam at 407 Sheridan Ave, Dalton, GA. Call (706) 529-4698 for more information or visit famgablam.com

This ain’t your Mama’s home cookin’! Tupelo Honey Café located at Ware-house Row is not lacking in imagina-tion. With a menu chock full of inter-esting renditions of Southern traditions, it’s not hard to tell this quirky eatery originated in Asheville, NC.

After conducting extensive market research, Tupelo Honey Café decided to expand their operation, and with overwhelming outpouring of interest on comment cards saying that Chattanoo-ga was the place to be, the team de-cided to take a shot in the Scenic City. And they sure have made a splash.

Every single thing on the menu is made from scratch, from the appetiz-ers to the entrées and everything in between. The Nutty Fried Chicken is a crowd-pleasing favorite; nut-encrusted, natural, hormone-free, chicken breast topped with milk gravy, served with smashed sweet potatoes and fresh asparagus. The menu lists it as mem-ory making, but mind blowing might be more accurate. Is your palate craving

something sweet? Try the Sweet Po-tato Pancake located on the extensive breakfast menu. Consisting of one large buttermilk pancake, flavored with cinnamon and sweet potatoes, topped with whipped peach butter and spiced pecans, this delicious disc is sure to satisfy any breakfast enthusiast. If you want to grab a drink to go with your meal, you’re in for a treat, Tupelo Hon-ey Café has created a couple of cock-tails featuring Chattanooga Whiskey, including a Blueberry Mint Julep and a Manhattan with Benton Bacon-infused Chattanooga Whiskey. Talk about yum-my creativity!

There is a little something for every-one at Tupelo Honey Café. They have taken Southern traditions and spun them on their heads—and man, does that scramble taste wonderful.

Come out to their new Chattanooga location at 1110 Market St., (423) 779-0400, or visit tupelohoneycafe.com for more information.

When deciding where to eat, don’t be fooled by location. The Acropolis may be situated in the Hamilton Place Mall, but it’s all-local, bringing its unique style to an area that might otherwise be identical to every other mall in America. And while The Acropolis makes sure to have traditional, favorite Greek dishes available, they believe that Mediterra-nean and Greek fare is really about the food production and creation process,

not just about having stereotypically “Greek” recipes. Grape leaves and gyros are delicious—but The Acropo-lis demonstrates a knack for fusing the fresh, crisp flavors of the Mediterranean with traditional American recipes.

Maintaining these high standards for the freshest ingredients and rich flavors, The Acropolis has geared its focus to-ward seasonal, local ingredients, turning to Chattanooga-area farms and partner-ing with locals to ensure the best possi-ble quality. By being open to influences from both traditional Greek dishes and from contemporary American foods, the menu offers a wide variety of choices, from traditional dishes like the Signature

Greek Salad, Lamb Kebobs, and Mous-saka, to cheeseburgers and club sand-wiches, both with a Mediterranean flair. And now the atmosphere matches the menu. Newly renovated, The Acropolis is more Mediterranean: brighter, fresh-er and even more welcoming.

Visit the Acropolis at 2213 Hamilton Place Blvd, (423) 899-5341 or check out acropolisgrill.com for more informa-tion.

TERRABISTRo

MAEAPPALAchIAN

TerraMae Appalachian Bistro has been described by Travel + Leisure magazine as “Chattanooga’s buzziest new restau-rant.” That’s for good reason—since opening almost a year ago, TerraMae has made waves with its innovative take on regional cuisine. TerraMae focuses not on broader Southern food, but specifically on Appalachian cooking with a modern twist, made with ingredients grown on the restaurant’s own farm.

Chef Shelley D. Cooper uses innovative techniques to cre-ate a menu that celebrates flavors from the peaks of Maine to the foothills of Tennessee and Georgia, running the whole gamut of the Appalachian Trail, but rooted especially in Southern Appalachian foodways. Sous Chef Jason Morgan has worked with Chef Shelley before in kitchens all over the world and has helped her push TerraMae’s unique cuisine to the next level as they embrace this season’s freshest pro-duce.

The restaurant also features the latest décor, with hand-made mahogany and iron tables in the bar and dining room custom created by Industrial Farmhouse. The tables are de-signed to create a communal dining space for regular hours and chef’s table event. TerraMae regularly offers events such as wine tastings, cooking demos, and special pairing menus. The space was designed to accommodate these, as well as private events booked by guests, all in comfortable elegance.

There’s always something new to see and taste at Ter-raMae’s lunches, dinners, brunches, and special engage-ments. Visit their downtown restaurant at 122 E. 10 St. to get a whole new meaning to “fresh and local” and try Chat-tanooga’s most creative cuisine! For reservations, visit ter-ramaechattanooga.com or call (423) 710.2925.

The astonishing variety and rich fla-vors of Kabob-ster’s Mediterranean delicacies keep their customers coming back for more. New to Chattanooga as of August 21, Kabob-ster is the first au-thentic, fully Middle Eastern restaurant in the area. Working with local providers to find the freshest ingredients, Kabob-ster’s chefs create high-quality, high-end dishes—delicious food without the hassles (or exorbitant prices) of fine din-ing. Even the hummus is fresh, with no canned garbanzo beans.

Start with some veggie falafel, served with tahini sauce, burek, a pita stuffed with either ground beef or cheese and spinach, or grape leaves, stuffed with rice, parsley, and tomatoes and cooked in lemon juice and olive oil. Entrees in-clude a selection of salads or hot meals. Those addictive classics, tabouli and Greek salads, are menu highlights. De-licious falafel, gyro, and kabob plates are served with sides and freshly baked tandoor or pita breads. All meats are marinated, then seasoned and freshly cooked, so every saffron-marinated chicken kabob is charbroiled to perfec-tion, and served with saffron-seasoned basmati rice. (For the adventurous, the chicken kabob can be ordered extra-spicy.) Possibly the most popular dish is the Kabob-ster Feast: a plate with three Kabob skewers on basmati rice with a

side of hummus and Greek salad. Each skewer is different—one chicken, one beef tip, and one kufta, each with differ-ent seasonings.

Vegetarians have plenty of options too, from salads to seasoned, charbroiled vegetable kabobs, falafel, baba ghanouj, and grape leaves. The Vegetarian Sam-pler lets you try a variety of these.

While most of the dishes are Leba-nese, the folks at Kabob-ster wish to represent all types of Middle Eastern food on their menu. Their catering ser-

vice is flexible, can be custom-created, and sometimes suggestions even make it to the everyday menu, such as Mo-roccan-style couscous. Call ahead of time to plan your special events with a unique, Middle Eastern twist. Seniors (60 and over) receive a 10 percent dis-count on weekdays between 2 and 6 p.m., and Kabob-ster also offers a spe-cial Kids’ Menu.

If you’re running short on time, call (423) 475-5370 or text (423) 598-2500 ahead of time! Then, enjoy your meal with no wait, in a calm, relaxed environment. Kabob-ster is colorful yet mellow, with deep yellow, orange and pale-green décor that evokes a far-away land, matching the rich, savory flavors of a culture halfway across the world.

There’s a difference between a regular old pizza and a pizza pie. Locally owned since its beginning in 1996, Lupi’s Pizza Pies has given customers in-sight into how pizza pies are supposed to be. Lupi’s epitomizes what it means to be a pizza place. There’s even a small disco ball spinning above the kitchen area.

So—what makes them different from other pizza places? Tom Maynard, man-ager of Lupi’s downtown location, takes pride in his pizza pies being really hot, fresh, and consistent. “We also have one of the highest health scores down-town,” Maynard said.

Lupi’s uses locally sourced products whenever possible, including only local ground sausage and ground beef, local wheat flour, honey and eggs all year round. During the growing season, the pizza palace uses local farmers to supply tomatoes, basil, oregano, zuc-chini, green pep-pers, cucumbers and flowers. They proclaim they are committed to us-ing local products whenever possible because it allows them to provide a better, more healthy product, along with supporting our local economy.

Lupi’s Signature Pizza is one you don’t want to miss; this mammoth pie is piled high with Italian sausage, roasted peppers and garlic, red onions, and fresh basil. Pies like this and many others have made Lupi’s the reigning winner of the Times Free Press’s “Best of the Best” for the last five years, and Cityscope magazine’s “Best Pizza” for the past ten years, as voted by the readers. From

their popular hand-tossed calzones, to their hearty meaty or veggie lasagna, the bases are all covered. Lupi’s has five locations, including Chatta-nooga, Cleveland, and their most re-cent opening in Ooltewah at Cam-bridge Square.

Fresh from the oven every day, the baked goods at Crave Café and Bakery are not just a delicious treat, but also an easy, healthy alternative. At Crave, ev-erything is 100 percent gluten free. This means that there is no potential cross-contamination, and that the bread arti-sans are experts at crafting gluten-free foods that taste remarkably like their originals.

Instead of offering the usual gluten-free sandwich loaves, which are generally smaller than “normal” sand-wich bread, Crave Café and Bakery can, with only a day’s notice, bake full-size, gluten-free loaves. You can also order custom cakes or other baked goods for any occasion, even weddings—just be sure to place your or-der 48 hours ahead of time.

The folks at Crave are dedicated to en-suring “health, happiness, and peace of mind” for anyone with gluten allergies, celiac disease and other food allergies, so that eating delicious food can be a satisfying and enjoyable experience.

Stop in for lunch at 1110 Market St., call (423) 531-1060 or visit cravechat-tanooga.com for more information.

Tennessee’s first green restau-rant lives up to its certification with more than its recycling and bike-friendly locale. 212 Market Res-taurant features fresh, local ingre-dients from the best regional farm-ers and suppliers—Falls Mill, Link 41, Sequatchie Cove Farms, and Pickett Trout Ranch. Their bread is baked in-house, and they feature a selection of signature desserts, including Vanilla Crème Brûlée, Chocolate Truffle Cake, and as-sorted homemade ice creams and sorbets.

212 Market Restaurant has been a downtown favorite since 1992, receiving only the highest reviews for their signature, exqui-site yet affordable, dishes, such as

seafood bisque, shrimp and grits, and coffee-crusted all-natural duck breast. Family-owned, the restaurant recognizes the need for a variety of seasonal menus and daily specials to accommodate everyone, including meat-lovers, vegetarians, kids, and gluten-free eaters. Though the food is made from high-end, quality ingredients and prepared elegantly, it’s made for a casual setting. 212 Market Restaurant is approachable and fun, with comfortable seating and a warm, sunny atmosphere, even on a cold, gray winter day.

The fall menu features new dish-es made from the best seasonal produce, from the hearty butter-nut squash and apple soup to the

house-made spinach and Ameri-can chestnut ravioli. If your autumn palate is not satisfied at this point, try some fall cocktails, like the Au-tumn Old-Fashioned or the Gin-ger Badger, or some apple cider. 212 Market Restaurant offers a variety of craft beers and specialty cocktails, in addition to more than 100 different wines, with a perfect selection to pair with each meal. Take advantage of their Tuesday wine deal, with half-off wines each week, especially since 212 Mar-ket Restaurant is recognized by the Wine Spectator Award of Ex-cellence—for 15 years running.

Stop in at 212 Market St. (423) 265-1212, or visit 212market.com for more information.

Cupcakes have become a na-

tional phe-n o m e n o n in recent

years—but Gi-gi’s Cupcakes in

particular take bak-ing to the next level.

At Gigi’s, cupcakes are works of art. Moist cakes are blank canvasses for delicious tow-ers of icing, decorated beautifully according to flavor. To fit every-one’s fancies, different batches of cupcakes are baked every morn-ing. From the number-one best seller “Wedding Cake,” a white cake topped with vanilla butter-cream frosting and white nonpa-reils, to twists on America’s staple desserts, like “Midnight Magic,” a devil’s-food cake with dark choco-late chips topped with a chocolate buttercream frosting and chocolate chips, Gigi’s variety never disap-points.

Inspired by other favorite des-serts, the cupcakes are single-serving delicacies that have been transformed from cakes, pies, candies, and fruits. Among creamy “Carrot Cake,” “Scarlett’s Red Vel-vet Cake,” and “Strawberry Short-cake,” your cake bases are cov-ered. “Chocolate Turtle,” “Peanut Butter Cup,” “Double Stuff” and “Salted Caramel” cupcakes em-body their respective candies—if they had been baked to perfection.

They’re some-how even more delicious than their namesakes.

This fall, new cupcakes make the list, like “Ba-nanas Foster,” a rich banana cake with spiced rum and spiced rum cream cheese frosting, drizzled with a brown sug-ar sauce. Anoth-er new addition is the “German Chocolate Cake” cupcake, with caramel, coconut and pecan filling and chocolate cream cheese frost-ing, topped with dollop of filling on a sweet, dark German chocolate cake. The fall menu also includes daily cupcake-sized authentic cheesecakes, in “Classic,” “Choc-olate Chip,” and “Turtle,” and occa-sional specials, such as “Cookies and Cream,” “Lemon,” and “Rasp-berry.” In addition to cupcakes and cheesecakes, Gigi’s is introducing a new line of gourmet stuffed cook-ies and morning muffins to make your selection even harder.

With the holidays coming fast, try Gigi’s cupcake takes on clas-sic Thanksgiving pies, like “Praline Pecan Pie,” “Apple Pie,” “Coconut Cream Pie,” “Chocolate Cream Pie,” “Kentucky Bourbon,” and

“Pumpkin White Chocolate,” which will be available by special order or in-store the week of Thanksgiving and sporadically throughout No-vember as long as supplies don’t run out…which they do almost ev-ery day. As always, Gigi’s recom-mends ordering ahead or online, just in case.

Gigi’s Cupcakes is easy to find, with three stores in Chattanooga—their main store at 1906 Gunbarrel Road, and two satellite stores in Hix-son on Hwy. 153 across from Tar-get and in the historic Northshore District at 330 Frazier Avenue. The new Northshore location is the only Gigi’s Cupcakes in the country out of 95 stores that offers frozen yogurt in addition to the full menu of cupcakes, cheesecakes, cook-

ies, and muffins. And, at Gigi’s, every Friday is Gluten-Free Friday. Mini-cupcakes are also sold by the dozen at every store for those who like to savor a bite at a time. To see more specials, follow your local Gigi’s on Facebook, and visit or call the nearest location to cre-ate custom-themed cupcakes and specialty cakes for parties, corpo-rate events, weddings, showers…or any other time a little something sweet is needed!

Visit all three Gigi's locations at 1906 Gunbarrel Rd #103, (423) 468-4803, 330 Frazier Avenue, Suite 120, (423) 710-1633 and 5550 Hwy. 153, Suite 102 or go to gigiscupcakesusa.com for more information.

pre-packaged ingredients, making their own dough, shredding their own cheeses, making their own sauces, and cutting each of their vegetables. Because everything is made freshly on a daily basis, you don’t have to worry about preservatives, fillers, or artificial ingredients.

NYPD, home of the impressive 24-inch pie, offers a large variety, from crust to toppings, to give its custom-ers their own, customized New York experiences. Pizza is available by the slice or in whole pies, in a big, fold-able style or with the thick, chewy “Sicilian” crust of Sicilian Style Deep Dish Pizza (known as “Square Pizza” to northerners). Their pizza assort-ment ranges from “The 911,” with pepperoni, salami, ground beef, mild Italian sausage, bacon, mushroom, black olive, bell pepper, red onion, mozzarella cheese and authentic NY pizza sauce, to the “Verrazzano Veg-gie,” with onion, bell pepper, mush-room, black olive, tomato, sun dried tomato, broc-coli, mozza-r e l l a

cheese and NY pizza sauce, to the more traditional, and eternally deli-cious, cheese pizza.

To complement any New York pizza adventure, NYPD also has other NY pizzeria specialties, includ-

ing calzones, stromboli, pin-wheels, dough knots, and salads. Addi-tions are be-ing made right now to both the menu and to the space itself, as they

are expanding to accommodate more people with outdoor seating and a private party room for any occasion from corporate meetings to family gatherings. The menu even includes pastas—baked ziti, fettuccine alfre-do, stuffed shells, and spaghetti and meatballs—and sandwiches, includ-ing Philly cheesesteaks, Italian hoa-gies, and Italian beef sandwiches. The new menu coming out with the new year will have a kids’ menu and a variety of specials. Of course, no meal is complete without your choice of authentic desserts—cannoli, New York cheesecake or tiramisu.

The Cilen brothers consider their family-run establishment a tribute to the fallen heroes of 9/11 and to America’s other servicemen and women, and, as an act of apprecia-tion for their he- roes, police officers, fire- f i g h t e r s ,

emergency responders, and military personnel always receive a special discount—20 percent off in uniform and 15 percent off out of uniform. As a family business, they are not only family- and kid-friendly, but also support the community and local charities, schools and sports programs.

Don't forget to check out one of their many Picasso-like daily spe-cialty pies, which resemble a mas-terpiece more than just your typi-cal pizza. These daily specials are all NYPD creations and cannot be found anywhere else outside their Hixson-based establishment.

New York Pizza Department, or NYPD, is Chattanooga’s one and only authentic New York pizzeria, taking ferocious pride in provid-ing the real New York experience in the land of fried chick-en, biscuits and grits. And even though they have only been open since March 2012, they’ve already earned numerous awards and accolades, including Urbanspoon.com’s “Best New Restaurant of Ten-nessee 2012,” the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce’s “Business of the Month” for March 2013, and msn.com’s number-one pick out of the “Top 100 Family Friendly restaurants in the entire country.” With more than 20 specialty pizza pie options, NYPD makes variety and authen-ticity its top priorities.

Every pie is made with only top-quality ingredients, with at least 90 per-cent accomplished in-house. They reject the entire concept of frozen or
