PROJECT PURPOSE: REST AREA

NAME OF REST AREA: PARADISE

SITE DIMENSION: 24m x 15m

REASONS FOR CHOOSING THIS SITE: Our site have 3 different gorgeous views each facing North, West, and East. But the sad case is that there are no main attractions for the people to come to hang out in this open area. Which a waste of space as this open area is quite big , where a lot of activities can be carried out there. Furthermore, many people also did not notice that this area actually can catch a good glimpse of the morning sunshine and sunset.

OBJECTIVE OF PROPOSAL1. Our site is located at the end of the blocks and it is lonely with no attractions, so we would like to create a place to make it more lively.

2. To make use of the space.

3. Create a place where people can hang out and relax.

4. Infront of our site there are no buildings blocking, which provides not only a good far away view also enable people to enjoy the cool breeze.

SITE ANALYSIS1. Our site located near architecture block where a lot of studios are located there. Lots of students always stay over for their projects and assignments. Around that area there are no proper place for the students to relax and hang out.

2. During night time our site has a great night view, but there are no benches available for the students to sit and enjoy the view.

3. Level 2 is the main stretch of place where it connects all the blocks together starting from the grand hall. There are also food stalls and a library

along the way. People may get their books and drinks along the way and then head-off to our rest area and enjoy.

4. Our site is facing north and so the people can enjoy the morning breeze and sun, later in the afternoon it will be cooling.

INFORMATION ABOUT OUR REST AREA BUILDINGOur building concept comes from the metal type food container like those cylindrical in shape. The building is fully made out of glass, and is fully tinted to prevent heating up of the interior. Although it is tinted people inside the building can still see through the glass. this rest area

we name it PARADISE , as it is in cubic shape. It also a known as a place of paradise, where people can relax in it.

This image shows clearly our rest area is located at an open space at the end of block E. Our rest area is build up to a height of 1/2 stories. Hence it reaches the height of Block E level 3.

SURVEYSThe survey we did is done by 50 people in TAYLORS UNIVERSITY LAKESIDE CAMPUS ranging from students, lecturers and also office workers. This is to investigate in detail and to make sure we can meet the requirements they wanted.

Questions surveyed :1. Which style of rest area that the students and lecturers will prefer?2. What will the students and lecturers normally do if they are in the rest area?

Conclusion, the modern style rest area is chosen as the most wanted style among the 3 styles listed. Activities such as taking a nap, hang out with friends, and also study is the top 3 activities always carried out by people if they are in the rest area. According to the activities that the students like to do in rest area shows that we should put more bean bags and provide more comfortable furnitures enable them to lay down to relax.

These facilities listed below will be chosen to locate in the rest area, for the purpose of increase the people’s comfort.

RASIONATE & BENEFITSThere are a few rasionate and benefits based on the site we have chosen to build a rest area on it.

-The rest area we build is open for 24hours, so people can drop-by anytime they want.

-As you can see, our rest area is located at a place where there is no rest area is provided, hence this rest area will be the only one that is available for the people to use.

-Our rest area is build at a high area and is facing a good view where no building is blocking. Moreover, our rest area is fully build with glass, this may give the people a good view of the outside by just sitting indoor.

-although our rest area is fully made out of glass, but it would not caused hotness inside, as the glass will be tinted and the interior will be fully air-conditioned.

INSPIRATION

Inspirations that we get are ideas for the interior and exterior of the rest area. A lot of them are inspired from tree houses, coffee houses, spiral staircase, patios and even also glass cubes.

CONCLUSIONI, LOH WEI LING & JOYCE NG YI QIN as the planner of this project where we are going to transform an open area into a rest area. Which is named PARADISE . Our site is located at the end of BLOCK E, LEVEL 2 open area. We will try our best to create a better place for the people to kick-off their stressful day and relax their soul and mind. . As a healthy soul enables people to work and study more efficiently. There is also a Chinese saying : “ humans rest, to enable them to walk a longer journey”. Hence, we will create one REST area where it suits each and everyone of us. In conclusion, we will take people’s priority first and put ourselves into their shoes.
