Brothers in Charity,

It is hard to believe

we are already in the second

month of 2016. There are

plenty of upcoming

opportunities to get involved

in the important charity work

we perform.

Although we have had

an outstanding year with recruitment of new members, please

keep recruiting, and finding folks you feel would be a good

asset to our council. Special thanks to all those knights for

their continual recruitment efforts.

Thanks to the Knights whom helped volunteer for our

annual Free Throw Contest last Friday night January 29th.

The evening was a lot of fun for those that attended, we will

update on progress of distracts and state once those are

completed.

Our largest fundraiser, the K of C Fish Fry starts on

Friday February 12th. Please check signup sheets and make

sure you can help with this growing and fun new tradition for

the parish.

The annual Parish Golf Tournament, another very

important yearly council fundraiser, is set for Saturday June

18th at Aberdeen Golf Club. Please volunteer to join the golf

committee to help spread out the work. We really would like

to have 100 golfers and your help in planning is needed and

greatly appreciated. Thanks to Kurtis Suellentrop for again

running this event.

Lastly help continue to support The Felice Cuores

Party Time Dance, it is always the 2nd Saturday of each

month, the dance is for adults age 18 and older who are

physically handicapped or are developmentally disabled.

Come out and have a good time volunteering for an hour or

two. Help with setup at 6PM and work if you can until 10pm

at St. Clare of Assisi on Clayton Rd.

We have a an exciting next few months on hand with

the Fish Fry and the start of Lent, thanks to all of you, whom

continue to work so hard in supporting what we do for our

parish, our charities and our council.

This month’s Faith Based topic: What are

Angels?

An angel is a pure spirit created by God. The Old

Testament theology included the belief in angels: the name

applied to certain spiritual beings or intelligences of heavenly

residence, employed by God as the ministers of His will.

The English word "angel" comes from the Greek

angelos, which means 'messenger'. In the Old Testament, with

two exceptions, the Hebrew word for "angel" is malak, also

meaning 'messenger'. The prophet Malachi took his name

from this word. He was himself a messenger, and he

prophesied about the coming of "the messenger of the

covenant", Jesus Christ (Malachi 3:1).

Although the word "angel" in the Bible, meaning a

messenger, nearly always applies to heavenly beings, it can

occasionally apply to human messengers. Malachi himself

said a priest was a messenger (malak) of the LORD of hosts

(Malachi 2:7), and in the Book of Revelation the elders of the

seven churches of Asia were called angels (1:20; 2:1 etc.).

But when we meet messengers doing supernatural things,

there is no doubt they are heavenly beings - God's

messengers, working for Him and for the ultimate benefit of

mankind.

Have a great month!

Vivat Jesus!

The Religious

Information Bureau

(RIB) is the Missouri

Knights of Columbus's

evangelical arm -- our

way of proclaiming the

"good news" of our

faith to our non-Catholic brethren and to those

of us who thirst for continuing knowledge of the

Catholic Faith. Through our support of the RIB,

we are sharing our faith with those who want to

learn more about the Catholic Church.

Every year a portion of your annual dues

($7.50) is applied to the Religious Information

Bureau and 2 times each year a letter is sent to

all of the Knights in the state requesting

additional support.

Unfortunately, Due to the prediction of

inclement weather on Saturday, January 9th, the

scheduled New Year Felice Cuores Party was

cancelled.

February 6th is the next Felice Cuores

dance.

Felice Cuores has come to depend on the

Christ Prince of Peace KofC Council 12986 to

help with setup. It takes very little time with

enough help so please come out and help.

If you have some extra time, it is very

rewarding to stay around and help at the dance

itself. Setup begins at 6:00 February 6.

Thank you to all who helped

2016 FREE THROW CONTEST

Due to some unforeseen

circumstances, there were

only 4 participants at the

Annual KofC Basketball

Freethrow Contest on

Friday, January 29th. Here

is a picture from that

event.

Congratulations to all the participants and thanks

to all of the Knights who helped out.

Brother Knights -

Looking for a Way to Be More Involved?

Deputy Grand Knight Dan Schoenekase

has coordinated the Council's Youth Essay and

Poster contest for the past 8 years. As he

prepares to take over as Grand Knight in June

2016, he's looking for someone to take over the

Essay and Poster Contest. He reports that it

only takes 5-10 hours and is a great way to get

to know the Principal and some of the teachers

in the school. The contest starts in mid-

December and is concluded by March 1st.

Please contact Dan directly if you are interested.

2016 has just started

but Lent is right around the

corner and the first Fish Fry

will be on Friday, February

12th!

This year we will be

having Fish Frys on all 6 of

the Lenten Fridays, not

including Good Friday. Those dates are

February 12th, 19th, and 26th, and March 4th,

11th, and 18th. Please check your calendars to

see when you can help and keep an eye out for

signups coming from Scott Robson soon.

requirement that in order to be an officer in a

KofC Council, you must be a 3rd Degree Knight.

If you are a First Degree Knight, become more

active in your council leadership and go through

the 2nd and 3rd Degree on Sunday, February 21st

at Incarnate Word.

Are you an Insurance member of the

Knights of Columbus? If not, did you know that

you can purchase a Knights of Columbus

Annuity for as little as $300 ($100 if you have

been a Knight for less than one year). Presently,

all Knights of Columbus Annuities are paying at

least 2 ½% interest. That is better than most

savings accounts and CDs. See the article on the

next page to learn about the Knights of

Columbus Insurance.

The Knights of Columbus recorded its 15th

consecutive year of insurance sales growth in 2015,

issuing more than $8.4 billion of individual life

insurance.

On Nov. 3, the Knights of Columbus also

surpassed $100 billion of life insurance in force,

cementing its position as one of the largest life

insurers in North America.

“I firmly believe that our moral compass has

helped guide us through a turbulent decade and an

uncertain economy,” said Supreme Knight Carl

Anderson. “While other companies were making

ethically questionable and unnecessarily risky

decisions, we were not. ... We stayed true to our

principles and knew that if we did the right thing for

the right reasons, we would get the results that we

wanted — and with our 15th consecutive year of sales

growth, we have.”

Last year also marked the second consecutive

year that the Knights of Columbus was named a

“World’s Most Ethical Company” by the Ethisphere

Institute. The Knights was one of only three

companies to receive that designation in the life

insurance category. In August, the Knights of

Columbus also earned the highest possible rating for

financial strength, A++ (Superior), by ratings agency

A.M. Best for the 40th

consecutive year.

Utilizing its professional field force of more

than 1,500 agents across North America, the Knights

of Columbus — which has one of the lowest lapse

rates in the industry — offers a product line especially

designed to meet the needs of Catholic families. The

line provides life insurance, annuities, disability

income and long-term care policies.

God Bless,

“A Knights of Columbus council can work wonders; in

fact, with its many programs, it can help change the

community, or neighborhood in which you live.

However, a successful K of C program is more than the

words you see written here or in any Supreme Council

publication. It’s more than a suggestion at a meeting.

A program needs people taking the initial idea,

modifying it to suit specific situations and local needs,

then implementing the program in a way that works.”

The above quote is from the Knights of

Columbus Service Program Guide. The Christ Prince of

Peace council is still a relatively new and developing

council. We were chartered in 2001. In the past 14

years our membership has grown consistently and we

have become more involved in the Parish Community

with many Service Programs. Here is a list of the

Service Programs and the associated committees and

their Directors. A great debt of gratitude to all of

the Brother Knights listed below. Without your

involvement our council would not exist:

The complete list of Officers and Program and

Committee Chairmen can be found on the Last

page of the Newsletter.

If you are not now actively involved in our

council activities or if you want to increase your

involvement, now is a great time to become an active

member. If you are not interested being the director of a

program or a committee, you can become a member

of a committee. The four Principles upon which the

Knights of Columbus were founded are:

Charity: - To share our time, talents and

treasures with those in need.

Unity: To work together to accomplish deeds

not achievable individually.

Fraternity: To aid our Brother and his family

Patriotism: To serve and honor our country

in the Church and in the community.

All of the Programs and committees listed at the end of

this newsletter are formed around these principles.
