The President’s Message

Thanks to EVerybody for your support with our June EV Project display. We have refocused our attention from barbequing back towards EV and projects; with this approach we had more time to communicate with each other. Keith’s “Lighting Bug” (see photos on page 3) was spreading EV Grins with rides; Manny was showing his latest EV parts; Ed demoed his 12 KW generator series hybrid; Bob had his Cony; Michael shared his stories about displaying his dragster during the Del Mar Fair and we had more cars with discussions about basically EVerything electric-drive. We are still charging ahead with many exciting EVents coming up. Abràn Quevedo just finished his 1st of 2 workshops for this summer with another EV on the road and 20 students charging ahead. Joel Pointon is steering SDG&E towards the future with San Diego’s 1st PHEV conversion from a kit. Michael Kadie has his EV dragster ready and he is headed out on a U.S. tour to challenge the White Zombie to the title of the

With increased postage and printing rates EVAOSD needs to be prudent with our expenses and in doing so we need to update our mailing list in line with paid members. If your membership has expired please bring your membership current so that we can continue to send you a newsletter.

Membership to EAA & EVAOSD just got better. YES, Everything is going up with higher cost except for membership to our group. EAA (which includes EVAOSD membership) has started a student/senior membership category for $25 per year; that is a reduction from $34 per year for many of us. And your EVAOSD is still held to the original fees of the 1990s except it includes membership benefits with SDRCCC (San Diego Regional Clean Cities Coalition). So join today and start saving while you are supporting EV.

Note that checks or PayPal payments for EVAOSD need to be made out to EAA with memo indicating that funds are intended for EVAOSD. Our day-to-day function stays the same EAA is helping with our banking and non-profit status.

Photos from the June EV Project & Display Meeting…

Many EVAOSD members know that Henry Ford & Thomas Edison collaborated on a mass-market EV in

the 1920’s. Now in 2007 it is Ford Motor Co. and Southern Cal Edison that are working on adding a plug to

the Escape hybrid… Go to http://www.calcars.org/calcars-news/786.html for the latest press release thank to Felix

Kramer.

It will be interesting to see some results and to take the next step.

Dan Wolfson reports … I don't know if you have been following the Vectrix Electric Scooter or not

(www.vectrixusa.com) but I have an update from their marketing director. They will be delivering the scooters in July (instead of

June) to buyers who have put down a refundable $300 deposit. I'm one of them. They were going to set up dealers but signed a deal

with some Motorcars of San Francisco company to cover California. Price is $11K. If you need service in SD, they said they would

drive down and pick up the scooter and service it in their trailer until they get dealers set up. They are air-freighting a shipment of the

scooters to San Francisco so they can check them before delivery in July. If I decide to buy one, I will bring it to a meeting. Expensive

toy!

Congratulations to all of the C2EC2T (EV Conversion) Workshop participants!

The latest EV owners working on their

EV from start to finish during the EV Conversion Workshop.

The next C2EC2T Workshop starts on July 30, 2007 stop by and encourage

participants to charge ahead…

EV Chargers are being updated in Mission Valley Shopping Center soon…

See http://www.evchargernews.com/regions/92108_1.htm for location details.

Report on Challenge-X and our SDSU team… SDSU Challenge-X team placed first in Drive Quality and improved this year to 6th overall receiving two monetary prizes and listing in the top 6 finishers that goes out nationally to the press. Please forward the link www.challengex.org and the news to any and all of the faithful you know along with my thanks! Year 4 looks to be terrific for SDSU, we have the best University–based alternatively fueled vehicle education program in California two years running. I believe Davis finished 12th this year. Our high-power plug-in hybrid with a 20kw recharge rate is a good representative of California progress in PHEVs. We are saving our pennies to upgrade from used Prius modules to Lithium this year. DOE will showcase all 17 vehicles both at EVS-23 and in Sacramento this year at special events, and then again in a competitive event from New York to DC in May ‘08. Jim Burns, Associate Professor and Faculty Advisor, San Diego Sustainable Mobility Team at SDSU

Mike Lewis says go to www.pearsonfuels.com and join the San Diego discussions… Pearson Fuels has launched a new web site with a Message Board section that we hope will provide the southern California community a forum to discuss alternative fuel issues that matter. You can find forums on plug in hybrids, electric cars, ethanol, BioDiesel, legislative, opinions and more. It has just started and we would appreciate your visiting the site and your comments.
