Thanks to your generosity over the years, the SECC has become a powerful force for making a difference! Since the campaign began, state employee donors like you have contributed more than $110 million to charities across our state, nation, and world.That’s powerful!

More importantly, the SECC’s “power of giving” allows each one of us to make a significant difference for causes we care about personally. When you contribute to the SECC your donation joins other state employee donations to become a larger, more powerful gift. Together, state employees have helped hundreds of charities successfully achieve their missions through the SECC.

The State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC) was created to offer North Carolina state employees a convenient, efficient, and trusted way to support local, national, and international charities. More than almost 900 charities are eligible for contributions in the 2019 campaign.

State employees have donated more than $110 million since 1985.

The 2018 campaign raised $3,440,574.

No state monies are used to run the campaign.

It’s Easy and ConvenientSimply complete a pledge form or pledge online (ePledge) during the campaign months of August to November. (Universities run through December 31.)

It’s More PowerfulPayroll deductions allow you to make small payments from each paycheck, making it easier to afford a more generous gift.

Quality and ChoiceCharities must apply annually and meet stringent eligibility requirements to be included in the campaign.

Volunteers work together to plan and implement the campaign helping keep costs very low.

You can donate through payroll deduction, cash, check, credit card, or stock transfer.

Frequently Asked QuestionsWho can contribute?All state employees and retirees are eligible to participate. If you do not have access to payroll deduction you may give by cash, check, credit card, or stock transfer gift.

Are my contributions tax-deductible?Yes. Keep a copy of your pledge form or print your ePledge confirmation email. You may need additional documentation to support your contribution depending on the amount you pledge. Consult your accountant or tax advisor for more information.

What is the duration of my payroll deduction and when does it begin?Deductions begin January 2020 and continue through December 2020.

What happens to my contribution if I don’t designate a specific charity?The SECC’s rules specify that all undesignated gifts be proportionately distributed to those charities receiving designations. For example, if Charity A receives 5% of designated pledges, then Charity A will also receive 5% of undesignated pledges.

Is there a minimum donation to designate a charity?Yes. The minimum donation to designate your gift to a charity is $10. If you donate less, your contribution will be undesignated.

How is my personal information shared?Only the information you provide (name, email and/or address and amount pledged) is shared with your designated charity or charities. You may remain anonymous (opt-out) by checking the box found on the pledge card or ePledge site.

What is the administration cost of the campaign?The SECC’s low administrative cost (12% of the prior year’s campaign) is a lower percentage than most charities spend on fundraising and administrative costs themselves.
