• •• Crew Practice on the River.

( , millions having been aliuosl pep I'in on the river lor tbe lasl two days, crew practice has gone on \ smoothly. The men are rowing in tbe same posit ions as designated by Coach Ward for Tuesday, and will re- main so until coaching starts. As

tht "Franklin" can be gotten out of the loe of the Delaware at De- lajaoo, Coach Ward will begin regular coaching. The boat will also be used in Ferry the men across the river, a greal convenience, as they now have in sralh alnmsl a mile from the ear to tbe boat house.

Practice will be held on Saturday mornings at an hour convenient for all of the men. The time for dally pructlce has been changed. The I", i airmen will now take the four o'clock oar, and the 'Varsity the 1.30.

The ortopede WSH taken out for the first time on Wednesday, being manned by the crew of the second 'Varsity boat, with Corgoa as cox- swain. There are now four working boats, so that there Is little dolay In putting all crews on the water, but the men will not go Into the shells for ■nine time.

Mills, McCune and Corson have acted as coxswains of the 'Varsity boats, while Farquhar, Ptnckney and Fiedler have taken out the Freshman crews.

••• Prize for Ivy Ball Poster.

The Ivy Ball Committee lias decided Ibis year to offer a live dollar prize for the best design for a poster for the Ball. Competition is open to any stu- dent of the University, and designs must be submitted by March 19th to I.. I.ee, 3537 Ixieust street.

The committee suggests that the poster include a girl in evening cos- tume and a background appropriate for such a ball. The words "Ivy Ball" and Its date, "April Uth," must also appear on the poster. Two, three or four colors may be Introduced In the design. Tbe size of the poster is lim- it ad to 3G by 18 Inches. It Is espe- cially desired that a number of do- signs be submitted In order that the poster be a truly representative one. The committee reserves the privilege to reject any or all the designs. Yesterday the hostilities assumed a more exaggerated character than ever. The battles waged all over the campus lasted from morning tin night and'gave the tailors a rush day. The ' incentive on each side was a presi- dential kidnapping mania that In itself is a good tiling.

There is considerable talk about preserving traditions, but this is not a question of preserving something bnt of sanctioning something Just started. We are of the opinion that it is beneficial to promote intcrclass rivalry on the campus but not in the streets of Philadelphia, and we think that if the upperelassmen will see to it that these pre-banqueting festivi- ties are legitimately conducted and recognize them aa proper class fights, instead of throwing snowballs at the lowerclassini'ii. ;:s two or three did yesterday, both the true object of the tight and tho worthy dignity and authority of the upperelassmen would be more effectively preserved,

It is a pleasuro to see the appreciation with which this performance is received. There is no question of the enjoyment to be had from listening to Mr. Mitchell's sparkling dialogue and watching Mrs. Klske's deft and charming acting and the fine work of the Manhattan Com- pany. It Is one of the best groups of players on the contemporary stage.
