Principal’s Report

Thank you so much to all students, staff, parents and community members that have made me feel so welcome in my first few days as Principal of Pennant Hills Public School. I am very much looking forward to working with the entire school community to provide your children with an Education that will allow them options and opportunities throughout their primary schooling. I look forward to continuing to meet everyone over the coming weeks. Please do not hesitate to come up to me and introduce yourself.

Last week I had the opportunity to meet with Mrs Rhonda Gosman and many staff to have a handover to allow me to hit the ground running. I would like to thank Mrs Gosman for her fantastic work as Relieving Principal and wish her the very best of luck as Principal of Kellyville Ridge PS, her promotion is well-deserved.

Staffing Update Over the coming weeks I will be convening panels to fill some vacant staff positions. I hope to have these positions filled by the end of this year to ensure that we start 2019 with a full complement of staff. Currently the school is looking for a full-time General Assistant (GA). The current GAs, John and Graham, are doing a fantastic job and I thank them both for all their hard work and dedication to PHPS. I also have to fill the vacant School Administration Manager’s (SAM) position. Currently Mrs Joanne Klimoski is

relieving in the role and will continue to support the school until a permanent replacement has been appointed. Mrs Klimoski is doing a wonderful job and I thank her for commitment to our wonderful school. The other important position I have to fill is the Deputy Principal position. Mrs Griffiths will continue to relieve in this role until the end of the year and is an asset to the school. I will continue to keep the community informed and notify everyone when these positions have been filled. School Spectacular This Friday night I am very much looking forward to attending School Spectacular. I know the incredible efforts that are required by students, staff and parents to ensure that the children are successful at these type of events. Many hours of rehearsal will come to fruition this week and I wish all our wonderful performers the very best of luck. I would like to acknowledge the dedication and commitment of Mrs Stephens, Miss Wong and Mrs Buttrey. The students are performing Thursday, Friday and Saturday and will be supported by their incredible teachers. P&C Thank You BBQ Last Friday night I took the opportunity to meet members of the community at the P&C’s Thank you BBQ. It was great to see many people turn up that support the school through the P&C. Thanks to Andrew and his team for organising the night. I look forward to working closely with the P&C and school community to ensure that we are providing our students, your children, with the best possible education. I would encourage all parents to assist the P&C and school where they can. The P&C is a great avenue for this as some of the support or organisation takes place outside of work hours. I will be attending the upcoming P&C meeting on Tuesday 4 December and hope to meet members of our community there that find it difficult to see me during school hours. Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today. Malcolm X Have a great week. PHPS PARENT CAFE Pennant Hills Public School Parent Café for Language Background Other Than English Parents and Carers. The next Parent Café meeting will be held Wednesday 28 November from 9:30-11:15am in the school hall on the K-2 site. This will be our last meeting for the year. The Parent Café meetings are informal. It gives parents who come from a language background other than English the opportunity to understand the Australian school system and to be involved in conversations that address issues or concerns that they may have. This will help families to establish a stronger partnership with the school, will provide support and knowledge for our culturally diverse families, and further improve our already culturally inclusive school environment. Making connections and supporting students and their families so that they feel they belong and can make a meaningful contribution to Australian school/society is very important to their successful integration into the community. The discussion topic for the 28 November will be ‘’Entertaining in Australia’’ and any other issues that people would like to discuss. Please come along, relax with a coffee and join in the interesting discussions. All are welcome. Angela Krivohlavy EAL/D teacher

LIBRARY NEWS

Borrowing for 2018 As the year draws to an end it is now necessary for students to return all their library books. Borrowing closed last Friday for 3-6 students and this week will be the last week for K-2 students to borrow, therefore, all library books will need to be returned next week. Scholastic Book Club news Update: 3-6 Book Club orders for Issue 7 My apologies that the 3-6 students have not received their Issue 7 orders. Scholastic Australia have informed me that due to IT problems the order has been significantly delayed. Yesterday I was advised that it should arrive in the next week. Last Book Club order for 2018 Issue 8 catalogues will be distributed to the students this week. The closing date for online orders is Wednesday 28 November at 9pm. If you wish to place an order from the Book Club catalogue you will need to go the Scholastic Book Club LOOP website page, register your details if you have not already done so and then pay by credit card. Please note: Due to being a split-site school, we have two Book Club accounts “Pennant Hills Public School K-2” and “Pennant Hills Public School 3-6”. If you have children on both sites you may decide to register and place your entire order just with one child to save time. Ms Davis Teacher Librarian

The canteen shift at 3-6 is from 9.30-2pm but shorter shifts can be arranged if necessary. Younger siblings are welcome at the K-2 site but unfortunately children are not allowed in the 3-6 canteen.
