The Parliament House building was inaugurated on 28th May, 1986. It was designed by Edward Durel Stone, an architect from USA.
Officially termed as “Majlis-e-Shoora” Bicameral Federal Legislature Senate (Upper House) National Assembly (Lower House)

The National Assembly has a total of 342
Members, including 60 seats reserved for women and 10 for non-Muslims, as per Article 51 of the Constitution of Pakistan, 1973.
Each National Assembly is formed for a five-year term on the basis of adult franchise and one-man one-vote.
The Members of 14th National Assembly took oath on June 1, 2013.

The Senate currently has 104 Members including 19 Women Parliamentarians.
The term of its member is six years, however,
one half of its members retire after ever three years.

Senate Secretariat can broadly be divided into three wings :- Legislation Wing, Committees Wing and Administration Wing.
Each Wing is further divided into branches / departments to carry out the assigned roles / jobs.

The Senate Research Directorate was established in August 1993.
The Research Directorate is presently engaged in a wide range of following activities which include Positions / Research Papers, Policy Briefs, Backgrounders, Country Papers, Comparative Studies, Speech Writing and Talking Points.

Questionnaires for IPU PARLINE Database. Contributions to the Offices of the Chairman

hosted by Senate of Pakistan.

The Senate Library was established in 1980’s contains over 20,000 volumes of books and other material that include debates of different Parliaments, reports, magazines, and periodicals.
It provides a study space, networked PCs, books, reference
material and journals to support the legislative business of the Senate and to facilitate Parliamentary research.
Senate Library is heading to achieve higher standards by
automation and digitization. Library collection can be browsed online through personalized account. All Members have been issued login / username & password to search the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) of Library.
