Breaking Open The Word

March 27, 2016

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord

Reading I: Acts 10:34a, 37-43 Reading II: Colossians 3:1-4

Gospel: John 20:1-9 First Reading: Acts 10:34a, 37,43 Peter discusses Jesus’ life of preaching and healing. Jesus was crucified, and then he rose up and was seen by his chosen witnesses. Peter also mentions the importance of all the disciples bearing witness to what they saw, so that many people would believe in Jesus, and have their sins forgiven through Him. Second Reading: Colossians 3:1-4 Paul asserts that we must pay attention to higher realms rather than earthly concerns. Our life is not yet completely known to us, until Christ appears and we are raised to glory in him. Gospel: John 20:1-9 When Mary Magdalene discovered Jesus’ tomb was open, she told Simon Peter and another disciple. They ran to the tomb and Peter went inside. He found the burial wrappings on the ground, with the head covering separate from the rest. The other disciple came in and they believed what they saw, although until then they had not understood the Scripture’s message of Jesus’ resurrection. Consider/Reflect: It is our faith in the Risen Lord which gathers us today. The greatest miracle of Jesus summons us to say ‘I believe.’ Others might ask of us ‘why do you search for Jesus today?’ ‘Do you really believe He is alive?’ It is our Easter faith, which prompts us to be filled with joy and happiness. It is our faith in Christ among us, which strengthens and supports us. Our search today is to discover the living Christ among us. Pope Francis has told us ‘Jesus Christ is the face of the Father’s mercy…Mercy has become living and visible in Jesus of Nazareth.’ Now unlike the women, we are believers and bring the good news of the Risen Christ to others. It is this Easter faith which brings healing and hope. It is this faith which gives meaning to our lives. We proclaim the great Easter cry ‘Alleluia.’ Who is a living witness to the power of faith in Jesus Christ for you?

Losing someone we love through death is one of the most painful of life's transitions. It is at times like this, that we need the love and support of family and friends. But sometimes even that is not enough. We need to be with others, who understand and share our pain.

A BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP can be just the experience we need at this time. Sessions will contain input and optional sharing. This group is opened to anyone who has lost someone in their lives and wishes to come and share their pain.

For more information call Gwen at 609-335-5252

Respect Life Corner

The Respect Life Ministry Committee meets the 3rd Thursday of each month at 1:30 PM

in the Faith Formation Center

ALL NEW MEMBERS WELCOME! The following was taken from the Catechism of the Catholic Church for adults...

God's creative action is present to every human life which is sacred. Therefore, deliberate murder of an innocent person is gravely contrary to the dignity of the human being.

Direct abortion is the intended destruction of an unborn child which is an act gravely contrary to the moral law.

Euthanasia consists of putting to death the sick, the disabled or the dying. It is never morally permissible.

Physician assisted suicide, popularized by the right to die movement, is morally wrong.

The human embryo from the moment of conception has an entire genetic makeup of a unique human life. Therefore, embryonic stem-cell research is an immoral means to a good end. However, stem cells can be obtained from adults with their informed consent.

We should protect all people with disabilities from societal indifference, antipathy, and any bias against them.

HEARING LOOP SYSTEM

For those of us living with hearing loss, it is often difficult to understand the words spoken during Mass due to the challenging acoustical listening environment. In an effort to improve clarity and understanding, we have received a donation and installed an induction loop listening system. To benefit from this system, you will need to select a seat in the 2 sections of pews (when facing the Altar), to the left of the Baptismal Font and switch your hearing aid, cochlear implant or other listening device to the “T-Coil” or “telephone” position.

COMING SOON Evaluation Forms/Surveys

This July, we will celebrate our 10th Anniversary of the dedication of our Church. With this in mind, we thought it was good opportunity to take a look back, see how far we’ve come and look toward the future. We want to know what works & what doesn’t and we need your input.

A Parish Core Team has been meeting and is currently in the process of creating some evaluation forms/surveys. Soon, we will be distributing them to you & would ask you to please fill them out & return them to us. We are not looking for a “pat on the back”. We are looking for honest answers on how we can better serve you & the people of God in our community now and in the future.

For more information, watch the bulletin and listen to announcements at Mass and Happy Anniversary!
