FEBRUARY 2, 2020

Dear Friends,

The birth of any child brings about dramatic changes in a family’s life—schedules shift, store purchases change, roles change, planning for the future takes on new meaning. It’s not all easy, even when the child is welcomed with joy and expectation. The changes are necessary because this child, this new life, is so important to us. We could picture the dramatic scene of the Presen-tation of Jesus in the Temple in much the same way. This child, brought to the temple by Mary and Joseph (whose lives already have been radically changed), is welcomed by Simeon and Anna with joy. He is the promise of light to all the world—in him, the hoped-for salvation has come! But it will not all be easy.

As we celebrate this great feast—we proclaim Christ as light to the nations and light for our lives. We also recognize that Christ’s coming changes us! It gives us a direction for the future and it ought to inform our actions in the present. May Jesus always be the light that directs our path.

Please keep in your prayers the children who will be celebrating First Penance this coming weekend. May they always know the love and mercy of Jesus

Peace and blessings,

Father Tom

Queridos amigos,

Paz y bendiciones,

Padre Tom
