One of the features in the Bible Belt is the abundance of churches. Everywhere you go there are churches of many different denominations. Here in the South, it is not uncommon as part of introductions to ask, “Where do you go to church?” Due to the number of different churches, we Catholics can fall into the tendency of thinking that we are just one group among equals, all of whom have their own beliefs. Methodists believe this, Baptists believe that… But the difference in belief among Christian groups is not in the design of God. On the night of the Last Supper, Jesus prayed, “That they all may be one.” Jesus founded the Catholic Church and desires unity of doctrinal belief. God reveals himself to mankind and continues to do so through the Catholic Church. Her teachings are not just one set of beliefs among many, but the truth of reality which God desires us to know. Let’s take purgatory, for example. Whenever you hear or say “the Church teaches purgatory exists” what we are really saying is “Jesus Christ wants us to know and teaches us through the Catholic Church that purgatory exists.” God cannot communicate his truths to us except in human language and concepts, but we shouldn’t think that they are any less from God. By believing what the Church teaches, we are united to the teaching of the apostles who were charged with handing on the faith.

“...mi sacrificio y el tuyo…”
“Pray, brethren (brothers and sister), that my
sacrifice and yours will be acceptable to God,
the almighty Father.”
At Mass, after the Altar is set with our
gifts of bread and wine, we stand, and the
celebrant invites us to pray that our gifts will be
acceptable to God. Our gifts are far more than
the bread and wine. Our gifts are everything we
have done sacrificially for God, which is
represented by the bread and wine.
When we began celebrating Mass in English, we
prayed that “our gifts will be acceptable” to God. With the
retranslation of the General Instruction of the Roman
Missal (the order and prayers of Mass implemented in
November of 2011, the church reverted back to the words
found in the “Principle Edition of the Roman Missal” that
was issued by Pope Pius V in 1570. The Principal Edition
giving the words and order of the Mass was issued in Trent,
Italy at the conclusion of the Council of Trent and thus
became known as the “Tridentine Mass,” or Mass of Trent.
By the 16th Century, the faithful had slowly come
to believe that the Mass was the prayer of only the priest
and that they simply watched. This had to be corrected, so
the words “my sacrifice and yours” became very important.
Many of us recall the priest facing the Altar when saying
Mass. The invitation to pray that “my sacrifice and yours”
was so important the priest was required to turn and face
the people to issue the invitation.
There are two significant words in the invitation to
pray together: ‘sacrifice’ and ‘yours.’ Through our personal
sacrifices, whatever they may be, we seek to give as did
Jesus in his sacrificial act of love on the cross. To give
sacrificially to God is the highest act of gratitude we can
offer to God. While we no longer simply say “our
sacrifice,” for the priest to say, “my sacrifice and yours”
gives the invitation richer meaning. The word “yours” is
plural meaning all those who are being addressed. We are
reminded that our sacrificial gifts are not just personal gifts.
We unite our gifts so that we can offer them as a
community of faith. We pray and sacrifice as a community
of faith, not just a group of individuals who happen to be at
the same Mass.
Whether it be time, talent, or treasure (or all of the
above), will our personal sacrifices and therefore the
sacrifice of the whole community—represented in the bread
and wine—be found acceptable?

and honors the loved ones we have lost in the last year. A special bilingual Mass will be said

To remember deceased loved ones please record their name, month and year of death along with your name and relationship with the deceased in the Remembrance book found at all church entrances. OR email this information to [email protected]
All names will be assembled into a book to remain on the altar during November. Names of loved ones lost in the last year will be placed on banners hung near the altar.

Demolition is complete in the Gathering Area, Community Center and Activity Center. The crew has begun framing the new ceiling in the Community Center and Gathering Area. Now that they can
see the full area, the fire sprinkler company is finalizing their drawings so that they can get the sprinkler runs placed.

The Diocese of Nashville is exploring the possibility of a PK-12 school in southeastern Williamson County and is gathering input from parents who would consider enrolling their children. Parents of families with children 12 years of age and younger are invited to attend one of two information sessions on Wednesday, October 28.
Session 1: 5:00pm Holy Family Church - Brentwood. Session 2: 6:45pm Church of the Nativity - Thompson's Station.

Thank you to Father Ed and all who participated in the Public Square Rosary Rally Saturday due to the rain it was held inside. It was beautiful with the stature of Our Lady of Fatima statue surrounded with many lovely flowers and so many voices praying the Holy Rosary. Our Lady of Fatima pray for us.
