Bi-Weekly XLXV No. 15, July 18, 2012 faith friendship fellowship followership fruitfulness www.firstsayyes.com Do you like to laugh? Do you enjoy life, people and experiences? Joy is a fruit of the Spirit. We can have joy apart from God but our joy is in- creased in a supernatural way when we walk with the Lord. For some this might be a new idea. We’ve all known many Christians who were grumpy and wore their faith on their sleeve like a burden or heavy weight. But, this is not the joy of the Lord that renews our strength and becomes our salvation. God wants to FILL us with joy. It is evidence of his presence. We don’t have to put on a happy face and pretend, but we can find a source of extra strength— not taking life too seriously when things get tough. Joy lifts. Joy stretches us. It brings a quiet confidence that nothing in this life can pull us down or separate us from God (unless we let it). There are moments when God wants to break into our life with outbursts of joy. Do you know you belong to the most High God? Do you believe that He would move Heaven and earth to be in relation- ship with you (and he has and does!)? Do you know that He gave His life for you hoping you give your life back to Him? Do you know that He takes joy and delight in you—just because you are you? Sadly, we some- times base our happiness on circumstances (more money, right job, good co-workers/ family, etc.) We mistakenly think that other people will complete us and our joy is de- pendent upon their actions and support. No one should take the place of God in our lives. Re-joicing is re-telling, re-living, re-sharing the joy we’ve experienced. To “rejoice in the Lord is to remember that God has increased our joy. It is to be thankful and to express that thanks to God and to others. A couple generations ago followers of Jesus would sing “count your many blessings, name them one by one…” this is such a great exercise in faith. When we begin to thank God for our blessings— an amazing thing happens. We are filled with thanks, praise and joy. And when that happens there is little room left for a bad attitude, complaining, judging, hurt or a host of other things with which we typically fill our- selves. The rest of the hymn quoted above is “...count your many blessings see what God has done!” See, joy is evi- dence that God is walking with you and working in/for you to bring good to life. It’s time to rediscover JOY. Be filled with it. Let it overflow! See you at the “joyful” place! ~jimd. Support Our Soldiers (SOS) The Story Web Booklet Wheeler Baby Shower

On Friday, August 3rd, at 6:30 p.m. in the theater, we’ll again be packing boxes for our service men and women located in war zones. This time, we are asking specifically for snacks. I’ve heard that there are plenty of magazines and books left by troops before them. We suggest small packages of nuts, jerky, sunflower seeds, cookies, candy, gum, soft drink mixes, crackers, tuna, homemade “puppy chow” or Chex mix, trail mix, and lots of homemade cook-ies. Cards, letters, drawings and photos are appreciated with each shipment. It puts our human faces on the items we send. Children’s groups are invited to send art to be put up in the living quarters. If you have a loved one or friend who will be on active duty in August or later, be sure to send the address to the church office at [email protected] so that we’ll have that address before Au-gust 3. We thank you for continu-ing to donate toward postage for this project. It is important to let our men and women in uniform know that God loves them and that we hold them in our prayers and thoughts.

We have recently added this web booklet to www.firstsayyes.com. It tells the basic story of God’s love for us and how we can re-spond to that love. It is a good beginning point for people who are exploring faith and learning the Christian message. You can go directly to it at: http://viewthestory.com/6425 or find the above image on our site.

Come to our new 9:45 West Service on Sundays at the Cele-bration Center (Friendship Hall). It starts with preaching followed by praise. If you are dealing with a con-flict right now in your lives, let one of our trained Stephen Min-isters help provide emotional and spiritual care. Call Don Brandes, 827-6455, or the church office, 827-2993. Pastor Jared will be attending seminary (mostly online) starting this fall. As a congregation we can show our support by praying for him and helping with the ex-pense of seminary. If you would like to make a love gift of any amount, please mark it “seminary.” Thanks! Please donate your old Cell Phones for Soldiers. Drop them off at the church office. Be sure to label them for soldiers. Carpenter Kid’s 4 Yr. Old Preschool is still enrolling for Fall 2012. Cost is $85 per month. Contact Sheri Webb (826-0639) or the church office (827-2993) to enroll.

KKIDSIDS VBS VBS Make plans now to join us for a whole lot of fun at our 2012 Babylon Vacation Bible School July 23-27 from 6 to 8 p.m. (5 p.m. Supper) at the Celebration Center! If you missed the deadline to preregister, don’t worry, we will be happy to register you on-site on July 23rd. We look forward to seeing you there!

YYOUTHOUTH VBS VBS All youth, grades 5th—12th, are invited to our

Youth Vacation Bible School, July 23-27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Celebra-tion Center. It will be led by Rush Walters and Tyler Shepherd.

AADULTDULT VBS VBS One of the areas in our lives that we seldom give attention to is the spiritual conflict that goes on in our minds. Following Jesus and having eyes and hearts for His Kingdom beckons us to know how to appropriate the “sword of the Spirit” (the Word of God) in our lives. This study will look at some teaching and concepts based on Joyce Meyer’s book, Battlefield of the Mind. Join us for study and fellowship as we dig deeply to uncover spiritual truths to “Living Well”. Led by Kyle Sessions, July 23 – 27, 6:15 - 7:15 pm, book ISBN 9780446691093, study guide ISBN 9780446691086, Books optional. If you plan to attend, please sign up on the weekend’s blue card (bulletin insert) or call the church office, 827-2993, or e-mail Pas-tor Kyle at [email protected].

Promiseland Children’s Ministry is in need of heavy-duty aluminum foil and new or lightly used t-shirts (size Youth Me-dium to Adult Large) for July 23-27 Vacation Bible School this year. Please bring your donations to the church office.
