Paper 5 – William Shakespeare
For the exam, students must have a thorough understanding of the entire play, Othello.
Themes and ideas to consider:
Shakespeare’s presentation of race in the opening act of the play and how it
develops throughout
The portrayal of Iago as an ‘artist of evil’
Othello’s introduction to the audience
The presentation of female characters and the significance of Desdemona and
