From the Grand Knight …
First, I want to thank the soon to be immediate past Grand Knight, Jim Jatcko for his last two years of service as Grand Knight for our council. He has done a fantastic job continuing to lay the ground work and move this council in the positive direction of faith, family, community and life. Additionally, he along with several past Grand Knights, have been instrumental in helping me prepare for the role of Grand Knight over the last several months. I am appreciative for all their help and guidance. Next time you see Jim, I encourage you to thank him for his service to our council and for a job well done. Next, I wish to thank all of you, Brother Knights, for entrusting me with the role of Grand Knight for this vibrant and impactful Edwardsville council. I am truly humbled. I ask for your prayers for me and the continuing success of this council. Second, I ask for your help. Over the next several weeks, your newly elected officers and appointed directors will be meeting to map out our programming for the next fraternal year. Once complete, I strongly encourage you to look over our council’s robust list of programs and pick a program or two that sparks your interest. Then, consider asking how can you get more involved. In the words of our great Catholic, American President John F. Kennedy, “Ask not what your council can do for you but rather what can you do for your council.” Together, with your help, we can continue to grow ourselves as Catholic men of faith and this great council in the pillars of faith, family, community and life! God Bless, Ryan Fitzpatrick,GK
From the Past Grand Knight
Brother Knights,
As my two years as your Grand Knight
have come to a close, I want to thank you
for the support that you have given me
and for being strong examples of
courageous men who live their Faith, seek
to strengthen family life, help others in the
community and stand for the protection of
human life from conception to natural
death. Though it often seems that we are
swimming against the current in today’s
culture, it gives me great hope to know
that I have many brothers next to me,
fighting the good fight.
I also ask for your prayers and support of
our new Grand Knight Ryan Fitzpatrick.
The role of Grand Knight is demanding,
but with a large, strong band of brothers
at his side, we can make his job easier and
together accomplish much good.
I can assure you that I won’t be taking a
break or riding off into the horizon. I look
forward to serving our council as a trustee
for the next three years and am looking
forward to my new responsibilities as
District Warden.
You remain in my prayers.
Vivat Jesus!
Jim Jatcko, PGK

Fourth Degree News
A big thank you goes out to all the Sir Knights who participated in the Honor Guards at the Father McGivney High School Graduation and the Memorial Day Mass at St. Boniface Cemetery on Memorial Day. The weather couldn’t have been better and the setting was a somber reminder of those that have gone before us.
Please congratulate all of the Sir Knights who were elected as officers for Assembly 225 for the 2019-2020 fraternal year at our June 4 meeting. Faithful Navigator: Richard Coolbaugh Faithful Captian: Ryan Fitzpatrick Faithful Admiral: Lynn Ripper Faithful Scribe: Jim Caulk Faithful Pursor: Brian Jones Faithful Pilot: Steve Edwards Inner Sentinel: Paul Zeigler Outer Sentinel: Neil Joellenbeck
One Year Trustee: Joe Gassiraro Two Year Trustee: Charles Berkel Three Year Trustee: Dave Jurgena
The last two years have gone by so quickly and a lot has changed during that time. I would encourage all Sir Knights to consider getting the new regalia and participating in Honor Guard events. It is quite an honor to represent the Knights at confirmations, graduations, the Veterans Day Parade, etc. and to show respect to fallen Sir Knights at their funerals.
It has been an honor to serve our Assembly as Faithful Navigator these last two years and I want to thank all the numerous Sir Knights who have assisted me during my term. Dennis Hessel, Past Faithful Navigator
July Highway
Cleanup Set Gentlemen!
I’m still looking for captains for two
collection locations. Please consider
helping out in this way and let me know
ASAP!
Also... if you can’t captain, I’m asking
that when the time comes, that you
give us an hour or two collecting at one
of our locations.
IN ADDITION TO THIS: Please consider
making a financial contribution to the
cause. If every member would give at
least $10 this year we might make our
Intellectual Disabilities Drive Update: 2019 Campagin
collection goal for 2019. Mail or drop
your contribution by The Hall, placed
in an envelope with ID Drive on it.
Remember that every dollar collected
goes to assist people with Intellectual
Disabilities. What a great opportunity
to demonstrate our charity in action in
Council 1143!
Thanks for all your help!
Tom Tucker
ID Drive chairman
The next highway
cleanup will be on
Saturday, July
27, starting at
9:00 am.
Knights can come
out and help keep
the stretch of
State Route 143
adjacent to and
west of The Hall
clean for our
visitors and
travelers.
Family of the Month
Congratulations to our family of the month Jason, Lindsey, Sawyer and Cooper Jones. Jason serves our council as Treasurer and can often be found manning the cash register at our fish frys.
In May, Jason and Lindsey had the opportunity of a lifetime to travel to Lourdes, France for the Warriors for Lourdes pilgrimage, which is annually sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council. You can keep up with the Joneses at St. Boniface, where they are active parishioners.

Knight of the Month
Congratulations to our Knight of
the Month Bob Towner. Bob is an
active member of St. Mary’s and
has been a member of our
council for over 17 years. He
serves as a member of the Fred
Mills Club board and can be
found working the Fred Mills Club
monthly BBQ’s and numerous
other council events. Thank you
for all that you do, Bob!
At right, on Sunday, June 9, these Brother Knights took part in our major degree at The Hall. L-R: Dave Council, Ken Lanter, Tom Kienstra, Nate Dam-merich, Bob Risky, Spencer Burkart, Marcus Augustin and Bob Nelson.
Discover the Catholic Difference
The Catholic Difference. What does that mean,
“Discover the Catholic Difference?” Is it just a
marketing slogan or is there real meaning behind it?
Let’s look at that at several levels. Our Catholicity as
an organization forms all that we do. Our Order was
founded on the principles of Charity, Unity and
Fraternity; as a Catholic business we also have core
values of Integrity, Professionalism, Excellence and
Respect. In all our dealings we try to embody those
values in the field and at our Supreme Office.
Money from insurance premiums and annuity deposits
is managed by our investment department colleagues,
Knights of Columbus Asset Advisors. They manage that
money, now amounting to more than $24 billion, using
sound investment strategies in full compliance with the
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ socially
responsible investment guidelines. We will not invest
in companies that engage in abortions, producing
abortifacient drugs, embryonic stem cell research,
human cloning or pornography. Our Asset Advisors
prove a business can operate on these principles and
still produce a healthy profit. That’s a Catholic
Difference!
Our charitable contributions of more than $185 million
last year went to a wide variety of organizations. Many
were Catholic, but some were not. We give money to
support worthy causes and we do that, not because
they are Catholic, but because we are Catholic. That’s
what our faith calls us to do; Sirach 40:17 tells us that
acts of kindness and charity last for an eternity. We
are supporting victims of genocide in Syria and other
places in the Middle East. We have placed more than
1000 ultrasound machines in all 50 states and saved
more than 1 million lives. We financially and spiritually
support seminarians, disaster victims, Special
Olympians and many others. All this from the profits
of our insurance program and investments and the
contributions of members. That’s a Catholic Difference!
And speaking of the insurance program, let’s talk about
the “Discover the Catholic Difference” there. Here are a
few examples: First, our products are designed with our
members’ needs in mind. For example, I’m not aware
of any other company that offers a Spousal Waiver of
Premium benefit…and there is no additional premium for
that! Second, we have never raised our Long-Term Care
Insurance premiums, something very few, if any,
insurance companies can say.
Third, we offer Disability Income Insurance to blue
collar workers as well as white and grey collar workers.
We recognize that it’s not just the affluent that need
that coverage. Fourth, we still meet with Brother
Knights and their families in their homes if they prefer;
it might be more convenient for them. Fifth, young
children; we want to make sure a member has the
opportunity to protect their insurability with life
insurance that has a guaranteed purchase option.
Sixth, our fixed-rate annuity has a minimum guarantee
for life, meaning a member will always make money on
his money. Seventh, our Supreme Office is currently
developing new products to meet even more needs of
our members…so stay tuned! Now that’s the Catholic
Difference!
If you’d like to find out about more Catholic differences
that could make a difference in your life, let me know.
I’d be happy to meet with you.
Vivat Jesus!
