Inside this issue:

Board of Directors 2017 is now in full swing but we are still looking for volunteers to serve on the Os-

prey Pointe Board. Nominations can be made from the floor, so mark your calen-

dar to attend our next Board meeting, on Tuesday, February 7, at 7:00 pm at the

Clubhouse.

Board members handle the day-to-day operations of the community and enforce

the CCRs and ARC Guidelines, to work for the benefit of the entire neighborhood.

The specific duties of Board members can be found in the Bi-laws of Osprey

Pointe, at http://marvin-group.com//wp-content/uploads/2015/01/OPHbylaws.pdf.

We will also be finalizing the vote for proposed changes to our Covenants and Re-strictions. If you have not yet cast your ballot, please consider doing so in person at the meeting, or submit your completed ballot to Marvin & Floyd prior to February 3. If you have misplaced your copy of the ballot, one has been attached to the end of this newsletter, on Page 10. The proposal was mailed to residents in Novem-ber, if you do not have a copy please go to http://marvin-group.com/ospreypointe-association/ to view them. Not ready to sit on the Board? We are still in need of volunteers to assist on our many committees. On-the-job training provided, and it’s a great way to get out and meet your neighbors! Please plan to attend the Board meeting in February and/or contact the Committee Chairperson listed on Page 8 if you’d like to help out.

Clubhouse Activities Did you know the clubhouse is available for com-munity activities free of charge? If you have an idea for a community event or project, you are en-couraged to bring it to the Board of Directors for consideration. Use of the property for a communi-ty event means that every resident of Osprey Pointe is invited (unlike a paid rental where you may use your own personal invitation list).

You can check clubhouse availability and read the rules and regulations regarding clubhouse rentals at www.marvin-group.com/osprey-pointe-clubhouse-reservations. Log in with user name “Ospreyowner”, and password “osprey”. The rental fee is $85.00 per day, and includes the use of the back patio.

Updated Contact Information Calling all Osprey Pointe residents! We are trying

to update our community directory and need your

assistance. Please take two minutes and go to

http://marvin-group.com/contact-information-

update-form/ to update your contact information.

Floyd. Your information will not be shared, nor

used for marketing purposes.

SWABS—February

Love is in the air! The theme for February is ‘The Newlywed Game’. Bring your significant other to partici-pate or just come and watch the fun. This game is always hilarious, with lots of surprises as couples try to match each other’s answers. You are sure to know your neighbors a little better after this event! The Guidas will be hosting this month. This is a BYOB (and glass) event. Snacks are optional but welcome.

Neighborhood Happenings

SWABS—January

The theme for January was ‘Nationality Night’. A sampling of dishes included Irish

Stew, sausage and sauerkraut, Polish sausage and cabbage, gnocchi, and

spanakopita, as residents shared recipes from their cultural heritage. It was an

enjoyable evening of socializing and sharing.

What to Plant:

Bedding Plants: Since temperatures can drop to freezing this month, new additions to the garden must be

able to withstand cold. Plants that can take a chill include dianthus, pansy, viola, and dusty miller.

Bulbs: Many bulbs can be planted now. Provide adequate water to establish and protect from cold weather

with mulch. Some to try are dahlias, crinum, and agapanthus.

Flowering Plants: Many trees and shrubs will be in bloom including red maple, spirea, and star magnolia.

Potatoes: Plant potatoes now. Make sure you buy healthy seed pieces from a local nursery and plant 3”

deep. Do not add lime to potato planting bed.

What to Do:

Cold damage to Palms: If cold weather has damaged palms, proper care may prevent loss of the palm and

encourage recovery.

Citrus: Cold temperatures may still injure citrus. Avoid pruning until spring.

Prune Roses: Roses should be pruned this month to remove damaged canes and improve the overall form.

After pruning, fertilize and apply a fresh layer of mulch. Blooming will begin eight to nine weeks after pruning.

Shrubs: Make certain that you know the height and spread of any shrubs you plan to install. Not all shrubs

are suitable for planting next to homes or under windows.

Lawn Weeds: After temps rise to 65°F for 4-5 days, apply a pre-emergent weed killer (NOT a weed & feed

fertilizer) to lawns this month to prevent warm season weeds. Timing is important for good control.

Fertilize Citrus and other Fruit Trees: If not done in January, fertilize now. Frequency and amount of fertili-

zation depends on the age of the tree.

Brainteaser Question

What do these words have in common: polish, job, herb?

Solution:

Groundhog Day

Punxsutawney Phil Sowerby is the name of a succession of groundhogs in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. On February 2 (Groundhog Day) each year, the town of Punxsutawney celebrates the legendary groundhog with a festive atmosphere of music and food. During the ceremony, which begins well before the winter sun-rise, Phil emerges with his "wife" Phyllis and "daughter" Phelicia from his temporary home on Gobbler's Knob, located in a rural area about 2 miles southeast of town. According to the tradition, if Phil sees his shadow and returns to his hole, he has predicted six more weeks of winter-like weather. If Phil does not see his shadow, he has predicted an "early spring." The date of Phil's prognostication is known as Groundhog Day in the United States and Canada, and has been celebrated since 1887. Punxsutawney Phil became a national celebrity thanks to the 1993 movie Groundhog Day.
