The CONNECTION A Note From Pastor Stephanie

“Now the Lord is a spirit and

where the Spirit of the Lord is

there is freedom.”

2nd Corinthians 3:17. NIV

We celebrate on July 4, 241

years of freedom. We are a very

young country considering other

countries in the world. One thing

we can certainly learn is that

freedom is not free. It comes

with a price. Many have paid the

price in many wars for us to

remain free. Our salvation was

paid with the price of our

Savior’s death on the cross. To

be free in Christ is to be free

indeed.

We are set free from the

bondage of sin. We are free to

love unconditionally. We are free

to serve everyone. Jesus did not

distinguish people in his ministry.

He healed, taught and gave to all

who came to him. When we are

born again we are born to be free

in Christ. So what does free in

Christ mean to you?

In our country, we have had

thousands give their lives for the

cause of freedom over the last

241 years. We live in freedom

but it was paid with the price of

many lives. Because of this we

can worship openly. We can read

the Bible without fear of

imprisonment. We can, for now,

not be afraid to be counted as a

Christian, a follower of Jesus

Christ. Although it is plausible

that this may not be the case

forever here in America.

Would you be willing to die

for your belief in Christ as many

have been willing to die for the

freedoms we enjoy today? This

is a sobering question. But it is a

question that we may have to

answer someday.

We celebrate with fireworks, barbeques, and with family in America on Independence Day. But remember in all of your

celebrations to think of all the Lord has done for us this Independence Day and be thankful.

Blessings and love, Pastor Stephanie and Jack

CHEERFUL HEARTS First, a very special THANK YOU to the Greystone Church family! More than 30 people contributed or volunteered or both to

make the June Cheerful Hearts event a success. How do we know

it was a success? The amazing expressions of joy and appreciation on the faces of our guests; the happy sounds of people saying such things as, “I love coming to this church” or “thank you for all you do for our people” or “it is so much fun to be here and I’m glad I got to come.” The most precious of all from our sweet friend, Bob, who always makes a special point to say, “I enjoyed it, I love you, thank you.” You can’t beat that for the price of a hamburger! Praise God for this opportunity to share His love. Thank you.

Now, looking ahead! Mark your calendars for

Tuesday, August 29th, 5:00-6:30.

Our theme, as Bob Hope sings, “A Summer’s Night in Venice.” We will be

dreaming Italian. If you missed the April or June event make plans to share

in the fun and festivities with our Very Special Friends from the SpectraCare

Group homes. Until then, CIAO.

Love In Action International Ministries spreads

the Gospel of Jesus Christ through acts of

compassion in our hometown of Dothan, Ala.,

inner cities throughout the US, and other parts

of the world. Jesus tells us in Matthew 25:35-

40 that we are to take care of the neediest

among us. In verse 40 He says, "I assure you:

Whatever you did for one of the least of these

brothers of Mine, you did for Me."

They also believe in carrying out the Great

Commission Jesus gives all of His followers in

Matthew 28:19-20. Therefore, we go to the

nations reaching the lost and unreached peo-

ple with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and make

disciples.

District UMC News

Dear Dothan district family,

It seems as if it has been a very long time since I have written. We, here at the district office have recovered

from Annual Conference and are looking ahead to plans for fall and beyond. I am excited about some of the things that

we have planned. Let me share with you what God is doing here in our District.

Alan Meyer has hit the ground running and is busy contacting our small membership pastors. We have an

event for our small membership churches on Sunday, July 30 from 2:00 until 5:00 at Greystone UMC. Mr. Victor Din-

gus who presented on Tuesday morning at Annual Conference will be leading this time. We are asking our small mem-

bership pastors to bring some of their key lay people to join us. If you have questions please call me or Alan at the dis-

trict office.

Our pastor meetings will be Thursday, August 10. Our full time pastors will meet at 10:00 am at Abbeville UMC

and our part time pastors will meet at 6:00pm at Sylvan Grove UMC. These meetings are not optional. We will wor-

ship together, welcome the new pastors to our district and enable them to see why we are the best district in the confer-

ence, you will receive Charge Conference schedules, a district directory and some important information about our min-

istry together. I look forward to meeting with you all.

Finally, something I am really excited about is that Sean Dietrich (Sean of the South) will be our speaker at the

Fall Gathering which is Monday, September 25 6:00 at Covenant UMC. We will send out more information at a later

date.

It’s going to be a great year! Thank you for all you do for your church, the district and God’s people.

Love,

Sara
