The large genus of parasitic wasps Acllsta s.l. isin Denmark and Scandinavia represented by ca 35species. Many of them were described on the basisof a very few specimens and frequently only onesex is known, mostly the female. This, in additionto a pronounced intraspecific morphological vari-ation, causes doubt on the delimitation of manyspecies. Thus, as the collections of these animalsare also rather few in number, there are good op-portunities to supplement the descriptions al-though caution is needed. Even the most skilledauthors regularly confuse already described spe-cies and thereby create synonymies which canonly be corrected by conrparisons with the types.Only when it concems very characteristic animalsone can reach a sufficient degree ofcertainty with-out comparing with the types.

Such an animal is Aclista pruden.s Nixon, 1957,which is easily recognized by the transverselykeeled clypeus. There has hitherto been published pig. tonly a few findings of the species: I I from Ger- l-3.

many and 3I from Sweden (Nixon 1957). In Den-mark, I have now swept two additional specimensin shadowy vegetation in a wood: One female andthe hitherto unknown male. The female agreeswell with Nixon's description and figures exceptfor the colour, which is apparently somewhatdarker as the large tergite is dark brown with onlythe hind margin slightly reddish-brown. Antennalsegments 1-3 are brownish-yellow; the legs are

dirty yellow. Length 3.8 mm.

Description of male

As female apart from sexual characters of antennaand gaster. Antennal segment I about 4.5 timeslonger than proximally wide; segment 2 about as

long as wide; segment 3 about 3.5 times longerthan width at apical end of keel, which is situateda little beyond middle of segment (Fig. 1); seg-

ment 4 3.5 times longer than wide; segment 13

2.5 times, the apical segment 4 times as long as

wide. Gaster less pointed apically and lighter thanin female. Seventh tergite brownish-yellow.Length 3.4 mm.

Material: Denmark. NEZ. Fergelund 22.VIII. 1986,

Nixon's (1957:81) key to males can be adaptedto this species by substituting couplet l5 with thefollowing text:

l5 Clypeus transversely keeled across middle so thatin profile it appears sharply angled and composedof two planes; frontal prominence withouttraceofemargination ....... 15a

- Clypeus with at most a feeble indication of suchkeel; frontal prominence with shallow emargina-tion.... 16

15a Predominantly pale brownish species with gasterbeyond petiole almost yellow over most of itsmedial surface; petiole about 4 times longer thanits middle width; emargination of flagellum 1

long, shallow, keel covering almost three-fourthsof length of segment; space between antennalsockets slightly raised along middle to form bluntlongitudinal keel (x40). ....... pallida (Thomson)

- Predominantly dark brownish species; petiolehardly 3 times longer than its middle width; emar-gination of flagellum I shorter, keel coveringabout half length of segment; space betweenantennal sockets without blunt longitudinal keel
