ROUND 1 – The Requirements

Epithets•An epithet is a creative, descriptive nick name for a character•Does the monologue include 3 epithets? Highlight each epithet. •If there are not 3 epithets, then suggest a place to add an epithet. Write *add epithet here

Epic/Homeric Simile•An epic simile compares to different things using like/as over several lines of text•Does the monologue include an epic simile? Highlight the epic simile.•If there is no epic simile, then suggest a place to add one. Write *add simile here.•Is the simile EPIC? Is it extended over several lines? Note on their paper if it is not (*not long enough) and suggest ideas how they might extend it.

References to The Odyssey•The monologue MUST be connected to The Odyssey (before, during, or after)•Does the monologue connect? Put a smiley face and a note at the top. If it doesn’t connect, put a sad face and a note/ideas about connecting.

ROUND II – Hook & Button Closing

HOOK•A hook grabs the readers attention right from the start.•Does the monologue include a hook? Highlight and label the hook. •If there is not a hook, then suggest ideas for one on their monologue.•Is the hook effective? Do they just introduce the character or does it interest you right from the start? Note this on the monologue.

BUTTON CLOSING•A button closing neatly wraps the monologue so we know it is over by neatly tying it all back together.•Does the monologue include a button closing? Highlight the concluion.•If there is no button closing, then suggest ideas or note to add one.•Is the closing effective? Does it cleverly end the monologue or is it abrupt? Note this on the monologue.

Now it’s your turn!

Use all the feedback on your rough draft and on the peer review form to make revisions to your monologue. • Go back and make changes on your rough draft – add, delete, fix, reword, etc.

• Then begin to rewrite. This will not be your final as it must be typed, but you’ll have something that is clear to type from.
