Dear Friends and Family,

Being the difference in this world by making a difference in some “ones”

world is the greatest gift that we can give! We will probably never know

what all a person has gone through is going through or will go through but

being there to give the gift of sight or hearing, helping put a meal on

their table or a coat on their back makes the difference in their lives.

“Peace on Earth and Goodwill to Men” is a phrase that we hear a lot during this time of year.

Being a Lion helps us to help just not the person that lives next door but the person on the

other side of the world that so desperately needs help. By paying our dues, making donations

for raffle tickets, standing on the side of the road taking collections in a bucket brigade or

serving food at a concession stand; at the end of the day helps save that 1 person. It is 1

person at a time that “We Serve”; when 1 measles shot is given and saves that 1 child’s life, the

1 eye screening that is completed that will save that 1 person’s vision or 1 stuffed lion

purchased that helps 1 child feel safe and at ease to complete their therapy.

We all serve differently but we all serve for the greater good that is to bring goodwill to

mankind and the peace in their lives when they receive our gift; whatever it may be. I thank

each of you for everything that you are doing; it is greatly appreciated and does not go

unnoticed!

My fellow Lions and Leos; “Tis’ the season”.

I am not quite sure where 2017 has disappeared to. It seems only a very short time ago we

welcomed this year with open arms and high expectations. Now once again the Christmas

season is here and all the hustle that comes with it. There is a feeling of excitement that we all

feel whether planning for a visit with loved ones or the trepidation of all that company

invading our home. With pride we will search and then pick that special gift for a special

person in our life. Love and giving abound during the holiday. Families gather and presents are

exchanged with laughter and joy. Isn’t this what Christmas is all about? Of course it is.

We see segments on the news each evening about people going above and beyond to make

a stranger or a family have a memorable Christmas. Food banks will receive many donations

and spread the gift of joy to families in desperate need of basic provisions just to sustain life.

We as Lions are called to go a step further and give that little bit extra just because we are

Lions. If you have the opportunity and the ability to help serve a meal or help at a food pantry,

I would ask that you show our heart of service to those who need, and I am positive will

appreciate, the gift of your time and care. We are Lions so service is in our DNA. It is who we

are and what we do.

My dear friends, enjoy this Christmas with your loved ones. Hold them near, call a

homebound person you know and open your heart to that one that may not have a loved one

near. In closing may I mention the real reason that we celebrate Christmas. Well over 2,000

years ago a baby was born in a manger that changed our lives and showed us the true

meaning of love. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ please spread love wherever you

travel. It is just one more way we can spread the fact that we serve.

Be blessed and bless others. In service to our fellow man, VDG Bill

INFORMATION FROM DISTRICT CHAIRS

Sight First & Hearing Committee: As reported by Lion Irene Masco there is a $50 increase in

the cost for the hearing aids that are being purchased which brings the cost to $500. Based upon that information, during the November Sight First & Hearing meeting, it was voted that each club would be responsible for $250 in place of the $225 as given in the past.

For the good of the district 14h

It is my honor and pleasure to announce that as of December 16, 2017 our next District Cabinet Treasurer will be IPDG Dave Barrett. Please mark your directories accordingly. Congratulations and Best Wishes, DG Cathy

To PCC Mark Kusma, Thank you so very much for stepping up when the district needed you to be the District Cabinet Treasurer. Your help will not be soon forgotten. I wish you all the best in all that you do. Sincerely, DG Cathy

The Newsletter…..

Of the 832 members that our district has, approximately 100 emails are sent by PCC Mark

Kusma (I.T. Chair) announcing that the newsletter has been posted to our district’s website.

Out of those 100 only 80 or so actually click on the link to view the monthly newsletter.

This is very disheartening when the newsletter takes several hours to prepare and only about a

10% of our district is reading it and if you are reading this you are a part of the 10%. Please

take a moment and email your fellow club members and let them know that the newsletter is on

the website or offer to share the link with them or please print a copy out and take it to a

meeting. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Also, please advise your Zone Chair when your club has an activity so that it can be shared in

the newsletter. Who better to have come to your clubs events then fellow Lions and their

families! But they can only come, if they know about the event, so please be kind and share.
