The North Carolina Postal History Society T he society was formed in 1982 to promote, study, and educate the public about North Carolina Postal History. It has extensive records of North Carolina postmarks collected from all sources since the society was formed and is the leading authority on these postmarks. The soci- ety publishes a full-color quarterly journal in which new research of North Carolina postal history is presented. The society is Affiliate #155 of the American Philatelic Society. Dues are only US$15.00 per year, which included four issues of a spectacular journal. If you would like to become a member of the North Carolina Postal History Society, please fill out the membership application on the reverse and send it with your annual dues amount to the North Carolina Postal History Society secretary, Bill DiPaolo, 404 Dorado Court, High Point, NC 27265. Bonitz of Goldsboro, N.C. depicting the Con- federate flag and the verse, “Bright Banner of Freedom with pride I unfurl thee…” The let- ter was posted at Concord, NC and was ad- dressed to Raleigh, NC. Wilmington & Raleigh Railroad datestamp in red, February 22, 1848; a pair of 5¢ brown 1847 adhesives paying the 10¢ rate to New York on a letter originating in Charleston, SC, going to Ghent, Belgium. Letter entered the U.S. mail on the railroad from Wilming- ton, NC, where an agent struck the date- stamp. Genuine “Bull” Durham Smoking Tobacco, known the world over. Envelope posted at Greenville, N.C., on March 18, 1918 addressed to Richmond, Va.

The North Carolina Postal History Society, founded 24 July 1982, is Affiliate #155 of the American Philatelic Society.  The NCPHS publishes a quarterly journal, The North Carolina Postal Historian, in January, April, July and October.  It sponsors auctions on an intermittent schedule.  Other services provided are exhibit awards and discounts on Society publications.  The Society holds an annual meeting during one of the North Carolina stamp shows, at which time the Society directors are elected.
