In a little village, not far from us, there lived an old couple, very litigious and unfriendly so that almost nobody dared to speak to them.

They were very strange people always

quarrelling and shouting, never smiling .

Page 5: The nightmare

• . One evening they quarreled more furiously than ever and the old woman decided to sleep alone in a room on the ground floor, near the cellar.

Page 6: The nightmare

• It was a cold night although there was a full brightly moon. You could hear a strong wind flawing through the trees and under the doors and the windows of the old house. The woman was really afraid to sleep alone, she had preferred to be together with her husband, but she was too proud to go to him, so she recovered under the blanket and tried to sleep.

Page 7: The nightmare

. Suddenly she heard a strange noise, she began to tremble, it was sure, she wasn’t alone in the little cold room. She was really scared, she tried to convince herself it was only her imagination, so

she took all her courage and opened her eyes.

. What she saw, let her for a moment without a word. Was it her husband ? or was it an animal? But it looks really like her husband ! The horrible creature went a little closer her bed, took the blanket and with his teeth torn it to pieces, she was so scared that she fainted.

Page 9: The nightmare

• Next morning she awoke as usually very early, at the same time like every morning, she thought “ What a horrible nightmare ! I must tell it to my husband, so he will become angry , I dreamed of him like an animal. Ha ha she laughed.

Page 10: The nightmare

She found her husband like every morning feeding their cows in the stall. She couldn’t wait to tell him her nightmare. Her

husband began to smile at the story and suddenly

she saw , he had a little piece of cloth in his

mouth between his teeth, the same colour of her blanket, that blanket the horrible creature

of the dream had torn to pieces.

She understood and the emotion was so strong and deep that she died at the

instant.
