“Whenever a man is able to offer his prayers in the synagogue he should do so since there proper concentration of the heart can be achieved. The Rabbis laid
down a great rule: Communal prayer has a special value and whenever ten pray in the synagogue the Shekhinah [the divine indwelling] is present.” [Menahem Meiri
a 13th century Talmudist from Provence]
We welcome you to participate in the warmth and comfort of our Ritual Prayer Service as you recall the meaning of the life of your loved one at their time of yahrzeit. Everyone enjoyed a very delicious Kiddush after the service, which was prepared by Sisterhood members.
Our annual donor dinner was held on June 7th. 60 women enjoyed boutiques, scrumptious appetizers, dinner and dessert prepared by Bruce Silverlieb, the
Party Specialist and a wonderful performance of “Meet Julia Child” by the Delvena Theatre Company.
The next Sisterhood book group meeting will be held on August 30 when The Fortune Teller’s Kiss, by Brenda Serotte will be discussed. Following date and
book is:
September 27: Sins of Our Fathers, by Lawrence Otto

Deathbed Wisdom of the Hasidic Masters The Book of Departure and Caring for People at the End of Life
Translated and Annotated by Rabbi Joel H Baron and Rabbi Sara Paasche-Orlow
Death is a time of life that holds meaning for the dying, their family and friends, their community—and us.
“Most of Torah’s teaching is about how to live. But there is a special section within its wisdom that also speaks to us about how to die. Since we are all mortals, our lives fashioned somehow around the awareness that death is inevitably to come, this is one of the important lessons…. There is something profound to be learned about the way of dying, and it is best learned from the wisdom and stories of those who have gone before us.”
—from the Foreword
Students of the Hasidic masters wrote down the stories of the last months, days, hours and moments of the lives of their rebbes. A compilation of their experiences, called The Book of Departure (Sefer haHistalkut), first published in Hebrew in 1930, brings together the rich end-of-life stories of forty-two holy men who died between 1760 and 1904, as well as their philosophical forebearer, Isaac Luria. Featuring new pastoral commentary in a unique facing-page format, this English presentation of heart-touching deathbed tales sheds light on Jewish traditions about death, the afterlife and how to care for people in their final days.
Rabbi Joel H Baron is a hospice chaplain at Hebrew Senior Life (HSL) Hospice Care in Boston
Join the Jewish Family Table with sorting, packing and delivering food donations to local families in need.

Temple Sinai’s Family Table responsibility is 30 boxes of

Please consider purchasing one of these products next time you go shopping and make sure to
bring them by the Temple.
GOLF TOURNAMENT REPORT 2016 We are pleased to report that Temple Sinai's 18th Annual Golf Tournament was a GREAT success. The event was held on Monday, July 18, 2016 at the Thomson Country Club in North Reading. Everyone attending had a FUN time. We would like to thank members of the Temple, and members of our surrounding community for all their support. We received 85 sponsorship donations, and had a field of 52 players. We have been very fortunate that our players return year after year to play from Eastern Bank, Sav-Mor Liquors in Somerville, Andler Bottling & Packaging Group, Stanetsky Hymanson Chapel, Donahue, Barrett & Singal, PC, Jewish Family & Children's Service, B12 Consulting and Valtech. We also had over 10 new players this year from the community. Special thanks go to Brotherhood Credit Union for sponsoring our $5,000 Putting Contest, to Dr. Leon Remis for supplying all the golf balls for our players, and to Brenda and Michael Silverman, Diane Kotz & Bill Olszewski, and to Marc Andler from Andler Packaging Group for being our Gold Sponsors. We had many other sponsors and we are grateful to each and every one of them for their generosity with this major fund raiser for the Temple. We would also like to thank the staff at Thomson Country Club for their
help and at Teresa's Function Facilities in North Reading for making our Award's Dinner so delicious and fun. Each year a successful tournament requires much energy and coordination of activity. We are fortunate to have a very fine group of volunteers who worked hard to make sure everything went smoothly. We extend special thanks and appreciation to the following volunteers who helped to make this year's event a terrific success: Course Registration: Rayna Aronson, Elana Aronson, Annette Callum, Roberta Mendelsohn and Arlene Silverlieb. Sponsorship Solicitations: Ira Dinnes, Jon Leamon, Ben Locke, Howie Nellhaus, and Julian Rich. Mailings: Judy Locke Gift Bags: Meryl & Julian Rich Putting Contest Marshall: Bob Myra Office Assistance: Carl Bradshaw, Meg Gatterman, Bob Myra and Susan Weiner Thanks again to everyone who helped! We are most grateful. We are very pleased to report that this event generated a net profit of $13,135 for the Temple. This amount is very close to last year's total of $13,840. Over the 18 year period that we have run the tournament we have raised $262,976 for Temple Sinai. We appreciate the efforts of everyone involved, and are very grateful for the support of our players and sponsors who made this event successful. We hope everyone enjoys the rest of the summer. Thank you all again for your support ! Ben Locke and Julian Rich Golf Tournament Chairmen

more on the way. Please visit the garden, located in front of the
temple building.
Please contact me if you can help out and "make our garden grow..."

Historically, establishing a cemetery is one of the first priorities when a Jewish community is established and settled. Another priority, of course, is the starting of a school. Temple Sinai proudly maintains a Jewish cemetery for its members. Our cemetery is on Route 114 in Danvers, MA. John Ross and Sons, Inc. is the company we have engaged to maintain our grounds and provide the services necessary for burials and installation of monuments. Our cemetery is bounded on two sides by trees and a low stone wall on one of those sides. There are many other cemeteries in the same location. We work continually to keep the grounds in good order. Owning cemetery property can give a family peace of mind knowing that there is one less detail to focus on at the time of the death of a loved one.
If you have questions about our cemetery or would like to discuss purchasing, contact Ellen Lodgen at 781-639-2003 or [email protected].
Memorial Plaques are a wonderful way to remember beloved relatives, friends, or anyone who has touched your life. Preserve the memory of a loved one, so that they will always be a part of our temple life. Multi-line Nameplates are inscribed with the name of the departed in English and Hebrew along with the English date of death and the Hebrew Yahrzeit month and day. Single name plaques, are inscribed with the name of the departed in English only, and are placed on the Chapel wall, rotated weekly.
If you are interested in ordering a Yahrzeit Memorial Plaque for both the Chapel and Main Sanctuary the cost
is $350. Please contact Rick Rosenblatt at: 978-744-
5736 or [email protected] for more information.
Dedicated in December 1996, the
Tribute Wall theme is to designate
in the Temple a special place
where members, extended family,
friends and well wishers may
choose to honor others, be they a
spouse, child, grandchild,
grandparent, special friend or
whomever as well as singular life
cycle event which should not pass
without special celebration.
Located in Founder's Hall, the Wall
of Tribute stems from the
generosity and thoughtfulness of
Temple members Mildred and
Irwin Zeramby who wished to
commemorate their 50th Wedding
Anniversary and sought to include
and benefit our Temple at this
special time in their lives.
The design of the Wall is the
creation of Temple Sinai member
Leslie Fahn Rosenberg. Its central
theme is a Menorah surrounded
by donor plates
of various sizes and affords many
choices and opportunities for
giving.
Prices range from $180 - $3,000.
We welcome your interest and
look forward to your participation
in our Special Tribute Wall.

Did you know that most of the email communication we do from the office goes through a
program called Constant Contact? Did you know that we send out a weekly communique via Constant Contact? Did you know
that it comes out anytime between Wednesday and Friday?
If you haven’t been receiving these important emails there could be something amiss. The most common issue is accidentally clicking on the “unsubscribe” link. Once that happens
you will no longer get any emails from Temple Sinai.
Please contact the office so we can get you back on track to receive all the essential information about what is happening here at Temple Sinai.
We want to keep you connected!
