Why Tile with Soil-Max?The reasons to tile are numerous – but ultimately it comes down to increasing your yield and maximizing profit. Soil-Max makes tiling incredibly affordable and a one-time, up-front investment in a tile machine typically can be recouped within the first year. Plus, it will produce ripple-effect benefits for years to come.

The Soil-Max AdvantageAt Soil-Max, we believe the tiling process should be accessible and affordable for all landowners. Our proven system provides a cost-effective way for you to manage field drainage, so you can reap the benefits without having to break the bank. In fact, you will find that a single tiling plow investment pays for itself.

The enhanced agricultural drainage system that is created helps expand profits while ancillary expenses are reduced through savings in machinery wear and tear, erosion and runoff prevention, and lower crop drying costs – producing great benefits for you, the landowner.

How It WorksNaturally, the amount of soil lifted affects the drag on any tile plow. Most tile plows only lift the soil 2-3 feet. The Gold Digger with STEALTH ZD Technology provides lifting action up to 5 feet, reducing the side pressure drag on the plow. This helps it glide easily through the soil as it lays 3- to 10-inch tile, up to 7 feet deep.

What’s more, the primary cost associated with installation is typically the contractor’s labor. And, the Gold Digger tile plow attaches to any 200 horsepower tractor, eliminating the need to purchase additional equipment. Bottom line: a one-time, up-front investment in a tile machine is more than recouped in a single year.

How Tiling WorksTile drainage is a form of agricultural water management that removes water from the subsurface of the soil. Excess water produces adverse agricultural effects including inadequate root development, soil degradation or compaction, and crop growth inhibition. Additionally, too much subsurface water poses a challenge to farm machinery forcing it to function in non-optimal, muddy conditions. Tile drainage aims to solve these potential problems.

The removal of excess water from the soil profile is controlled through a series of drainage pipes — also known as tile or tubing — that

Page 3: The Next Generation in Tle i Plow TECHNOLOGY - Soil-Maxsoilmax.com/images/uploads/documents/2014_SoilMax_Catalog_1205... · Tle i Plow TECHNOLOGY. 2 SOILMAX.COM Why Tile with Soil-Max?

Zero DeflectionMost tile plows use the pitch of the plow to control grade. Deflection occurs when the tile plow pitches up or down, which can damage the tile or cause it to go off course. Zero Deflection Technology, a patent-pending product from Soil-Max, features a unique design that avoids deflection and eliminates opposite grade reaction. Positioning the plow to follow the leading edge keeps it from pushing down in back – so there’s no tile damage or effect on the grade.

are installed below the soil surface just under the root zone. These subsurface drainage networks then open to a nearby ditch or stream.

Because each field is unique, design and installation of a drainage system requires careful research and planning. Drainage depends on topography, types of crops, and soil variety. Collectively, these factors determine the drainage depth and spacing needed for optimal land improvement. The most common type of tile is corrugated plastic tubing that has tiny holes to facilitate water entry. When the water table of the soil is higher than the tile, water enters the tubing and as a result lowers the water table, ditching the excess moisture to streams and other outlets.

This field drainage tile process produces many benefits: improved crop quality and production, reduced soil evaporation, well-aerated root systems, timely field operations for early planting, enhanced productivity, and prevention of harmful salt buildup in the soil. Soil-Max prides itself on the creation of precise and progressive tools that allow farmers to achieve these results.

T1 Steel: More Durability, Less WeightThe Gold Digger is rugged, durable and surprisingly light. That’s because it’s built with T1 steel — a tremendously strong yet thin material. Bottom line: Gold Digger plows offer superior durability and are easier to pull than plows made from thicker, heavier types of steel.

Pull-Type Advantages Nitro Rod cylinders last 3 times longer than chrome Replaceable shears allow plow to be as wide as needed Needs a minimum of a 20,000 lb tractor Tiles up to 6 1/2 feet deep Lay 3” - 10” tile at your convenience with easy change boots Poly sides shed dirt and pulls easier Narrow width design pulls easier Proportional valves make it Intellislope™ ready

Innovative Balancing System Makes it EasyThe best way to control grade is with the pitch of the shanks. The only problem with this, however, is how do you then run the wheels? If you run the wheels too loose the plow will fall over on it’s side or lean and affect the grade. Run them too tight and it will fight the cylinder that is controlling grade and affect the grade of the tile. This is a big problem if you try to pre-rip and raise the wheels too fast and let the plow fall over.

The Soil-Max hydraulic control system allows you to control the amount of down-pressure you want on your tires (usually around 300 PSI). Go through dips and humps with the wheels free floating while still maintaining the plow’s vertical balance. Some say just put the

remote in float — but that doesn’t work in all conditions. You already have enough on your mind while you are tiling. Why not let the Gold Digger worry about tire down-pressure for you!

No 3-point Hitch, No Problem! If you have a large tractor without a 3-point hitch, the Pull-Type Gold Digger will give you all of the advantages of a Gold Digger plow. Go only as wide as you need to be. Usually 90 percent of your tile is 4" or less and most pull-type designs stay almost a foot wide 100 percent of the time. A Gold Digger will be almost half as wide 90 percent of the time.

The poly sides and narrow design lets you utilize the weight of your tractor much more efficiently with a Pull-Type Gold Digger. Why make life tougher if you don’t have to? If you have a big tractor without a 3-point hitch, you don’t have to buy a hard pulling plow. Tile smarter not harder!

Just drop the pin, hook up a single set of hydraulics and one implement cable

The Soil-Max 3-Point Gold Digger is much different than other tractor-based drainage plows. For starters, it offers unsurpassed grade control. Simply put the 3-point hitch in float (or all the way down with draft off) and let the plow’s own hydraulic cylinders control the grade.

The Gold Digger flies through the soil much like an airplane — allowing your tractor to be completely independent of the plow. Plus, it’s very easy to back into starts. Bottom line: the 3-point is the easiest plow on the market to operate in the field.

Power FeederAdd an optional tile feeder to any plow to ensure tile quality. The tile feeder simply pushes on the tile to prevent any stretching from occurring.

Tile Plow Features

Narrow and Poly-SlickSoil-Max poly-coats the plow sides for minimal drag coefficient. Gold Digger owners report that the plow pulls 20 percent easier than plows with no poly.

New Quick-Change Boot DesignWith just two bolts to adjust, switching boots can be done in a matter of minutes. Just put the boot sides on the locator pins and secure one bolt. For the boot J, it’s the same: simply secure the bottom on the locator pins and install one bolt.

Square Tile Boot Minimizes Friction with Poly InsertWhile some tile plows force round tile through a round tube — the Gold Digger runs the tile through a square chute to minimize friction and stretching problems.

How does this benefit you? With 1500 feet of tile even 2 percent stretch would create 30 feet of leftover tile. The Gold Digger minimizes stretch, using 4 pounds of tension to pull tile through the boot. The result is optimal tile usage.

Walking TandumIncrease stability and increase working width over hole for loose soil types.

Plan Enter the desired minimum/maximum target depths, as well as the minimum grade to drain excess water from the field. This can be done in the field or with the SMS™ Advanced Water Management Module.

Install Use the plan you created to install tile using AutoTile® to adjust the depth of the plow automatically. You can also use Grade control or Pitch control modes as needed.

Survey Can be done ahead of time with an ATV, or at the time of installation with the tile plow utilizing RTK GPS. Collect surveys by driving over the path where tile needs to be placed to collect the surface elevation.

AutoTile® Millions of feet of installed tile prove how well AutoTile works to keep tile on grade. A three-step process to Survey, Plan, and Install the tile is as simple as it sounds. The system now has the added benefit of roll correction to keep the tile depth at the desired level on side slopes.

Guidance As surveys are collected, a guidance line is created with the survey. When the survey is loaded for installation, manual guidance, assisted or integrated steering can be used to ensure that the tile is placed where the survey was recorded.

Well-drained soils encourage deeper root development and healthier crops.

Saturated soils lead to shallow root growth and poor plant development.

I still remember where I was the first time I saw the Soil-Max Golddigger Tile Plow. I went to a farm show with a friend of mine and we saw this new tool that allowed a farmer to install drainage tile with a tractor. We asked a bunch of questions. The next day I talked to my dad and told him what I had

seen. We bought one of the first tile plows sold by Soil-Max in 1997. Today

– we still own a Soil-Max tile plow and I am the General Manager of Soil-Max.

True Story…

If you ask my dad about the plow he’ll tell you what you’ve heard from countless other farmers:

They’ve never had a piece of equipment pay more dividends than a Soil-Max Golddigger Tile Plow.

Never – that’s a powerful word. But, in this case – it’s very accurate. You see, farming isn’t like a lot of other professions. There is a lot of emotion tied up in what we

do every season. Long days, setbacks, high highs and low lows. But, the successful farmers that

I have met over the years have one thing in common – they realize that above all the emotion and

hard work – farming is a business. If you don’t make good business decisions - all of the hard work

will not matter.

There are a lot of things you can buy with your money. The Golddigger is just like most of the

other things you can buy for the farm… One day it will get rusty and tired – might need replaced.

But… the difference is this, by wearing out the Golddigger – you passed something on to the next

generation that will pay off for years. I invite you to look through this catalog. Go to our website. Put some of your actual numbers

in our Return on Investment Calculator. Visit us at a show. Call one of our dealers. It’s the best

investment you can make on the ground that you farm. Period.I’m just not the manager of Soil-Max. I’m a farmer and a Golddigger owner. I believe in this

product – enough to work for the company.
