Greetings Tidewater Chapter,
Welcome to 2019. I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful New Year. I have never been one for New Year’s resolutions, but I am hoping that
many of you resolve to become more involved in our Club. We have many exciting events happening in 2019!
We will be continuing with our monthly breakfasts in Chesapeake, which are held on the third Saturday of every month at Pop’s Diner. We will resume our
quarterly breakfasts, the fourth Saturday of March, June, September and December at Baker’s Crust in Williamsburg. I am looking forward to our Valentine’s Day Drive and lunch, our joint BBQ with the Porsche Club, and the M-Performance School, along with many other exciting events.
Last year was an exciting one for our Club. For the second consecutive year, we hosted Street Survival and, more importantly, helped educate more young drivers with the best driving practices in a safe and controlled environment. We enjoyed our first M-Performance School and had a great time in Greer, SC. We continued to slay the Dragon and made memories in the beautiful towns of Marion and Tazewell Virginia. Our joint BBQ with the Porsche Club was also a blast.
As our Chapter’s Board knows I am fond of saying, we are a non-profit organization, not a charity. We are all volunteers. We all have lives, families, and commitments. That said, we all have at least one thing in common, our passion for BMW. Because of this shared passion, I am asking for your help. I request each and every one of you to become a Steward of Membership. You can do that by helping us by spread the word about our Club and the benefits of being a member. I have set a membership goal of 900 members by December 31st, 2019. With our current number standing at 653, reaching 900 members is lofty, but feasible; especially if everyone acts as a Steward of Membership. Having more members will enable us to make new friends, more easily ask for volunteers, and truth be told more membership will enable us to better support a wider variety of events. Please take a few moments and talk with someone about the benefits of membership. Invite them to an event. Share with them our joy and our passion for the brand that unites us all!
I would like to welcome to the Board our new Vice President, Brad Purvis. We have a new Newsletter Editor, Chris Boyles; Linda Williams is our new Outer Banks Representative, and Hope Boyles is our new Social Media Director. I am eager to work with our board as we grow, and strive to put on the best events for you, our membership. We are looking forward to an exciting 2019 full of great events, comradery, and awesome memories.
I am looking forward to an exciting and memorable 2019 with you all. I hope to share new memories with familiar faces as well as get to know all of you better.

Look out folks! Right around the corner is…you guessed it, Valentine’s Day. It will be time to scrape the ice off the windshields and get back out in the sun (hopefully) and on the asphalt!
February 9th we will hit the back roads of Williamsburg, touring the countryside in the morning then reaching our lunch destination of Sal’s by Victor (http://salsbyvictor.com/) in the early afternoon for a Valentine’s Day Italian feast. With a set cost of $30.00 per person (plus tip -- please leave that at your table), prepare to be stuffed for the rest of the weekend as we enjoy multiple courses of great food, plenty of wine pairings, and spectacular company.
Be prepared to spend a couple of hours as we enjoy a variety of courses; menu includes Appetizers: Eggplant Terracotta, Antipasto Italiano, Pizza square; Salad or soup; Main course: Spaghetti with meatballs, Chicken Cannelloni, Fagottini with trufe sauce, Choice of chicken lemon butter or flounder with white wine and capers with vegetables; Dessert: Petite cannoli; all with white and red wines, coffee, tea & soft drinks.

Join us for this fun event as we learn from the best driving instructors and put our skills to the test, whipping around the track in their M2s, M3s, M4s and M5s! This event will be at the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg, SC on Saturday, August 24, 2019 and we’ll be driving their M cars!
Space is limited; only the first 32 registrants will be able to participate; driving registrants must be either members of the Tidewater BMW Car Club or family of a club member. Only $900 for a full day of training and track time -- a +40% discount from the standard fee.
When registering, you can order lunches for your non-driving guests; guest lunches will be $30 (driver lunches will be provided).

OktOberfest: 50 What?That’s right, BMW CCA is 50 Years Old! This October, we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the BMW Car Club of America at the Oktoberfest in Greenville, South Carolina. It is fitting that this year’s anniversary will take place in Greenville, the American home of BMW. A place that has given so much back to BMW, and to which we owe a great deal of our thanks for their beautiful production of the Z3 and the entire SAV line! The world owes a thanks to Greenville for that. Join us as we celebrate BMW, our history, and give our thanks to the brand that unites us as all at Oktoberfest 2019!

Yes, this is the year we have all been waiting for! 50 years of the club and Oktoberfest! This will be an unforgettable event as club members make the journey back “Home” to the Greenville/Spartanburg area from all over the country and the world. We will have exciting social, driving, and exclusive anniversary events taking place at the BMW Performance Center, BMW Plant Spartanburg—where the X3 through the X7 are made, Michelin’s Headquarters and Proving Grounds, and the BMW CCA national office. This will be an absolutely amazing event with many great surprises in store for attendees! We hope to see you there!

No better way to spend Columbus Day weekend than with friends and fellow BMW enthusiasts as we slay, for the first time ever, the Head of the Dragon! Not only will this be a first for the Tidewater Chapter BMW CCA, this will also be a first for the Head of the Dragon, having a car club slay them! 66 Miles. Countless Smiles. 1 Amazing weekend. Don’t miss this opportunity, for the dragon won’t dare return after we slay it, at least not for another four years.
