The Newsletter of the Mohawk Valley Quilt Club M.V.Q.C., Inc. PO Box 595, New Hartford, NY 13413 www.mohawkvalleyquiltclub.com SEPT/OCT 2016 QUILT SHOW CORNER We hope you had a nice summer; we had plenty of hot days this past summer. It is now just about over and time to get back to our quilting meetings. The Quilt Show Committee held their first meeting in June. We had a good meeting with a lot of discussion. There will be some changes for the next show. The 2017 Quilt Show is scheduled for May 19th, 20th, and 21st. The hours of the show will be extended on Friday till 8PM and shortened on Sunday from 11AM to 3PM. Another item that was discussed was the Boutique proceeds. According to the revised Policy and Procedures of 2014, the Quilt Show Committee shall be responsible for charity projects. The Boutique fulfills the charity project requirements. Since it is the membership that donates all those beautiful items to raise money, we would like to hear from the membership on how and who to donate the monies to that are raised from the Boutique sales. At the September meeting we will asking you for your suggestions through some type of written ballot. We, the committee, will then review the suggestions and come up with a plan from your suggestions. I am sure that many of you have suggestions or a special place that you would like to see some of the proceeds go to, so please let us know. We are looking for someone who may be interested in doing some social outreach to promote the show through facebook, twitter, or other social medias. There will a table set up in the back of the meeting room at each meeting to drop off Boutique items (don't forget to leave your name and a suggested sale price for the Boutique committee). There will also be someone there if you have questions or suggestions. I hope you all are thinking about what item or items you will be entering in the show next May. Cindy and Paula FROM THE PRESIDENT Welcome back! It has been a beautiful summer so far, minus the high humidity this past week. I hope you have all been able to spend some quality time outdoors doing all the things you love. I also hope you have had some time to spend quilting. I always think things will calm down during the summer and I will have lots of time to sew, but that isn’t usually the case. Nice weather draws me outside and longer daylight hours leave little time for stitching, but I do try to squeeze in some time every day. Did you have a chance to go to some quilt shows, visit some new shops on vacation, or take a quilt shop road trip to collect this year’s Row by Row? If anyone completed a Row by Row quilt, we would love to see it at September’s Show and Tell! This year promises to be very exciting. The Program Committee has done another great job and has many interesting speakers and events planned. The BIG event of course is the Quilt Show to be held in May 2017. Start planning your entries and contributions to the Boutique NOW! I know – it seems like a long way off – but it will be here before we know it. One of my self-imposed tasks as President is to try to connect as many names and faces of Club members as possible during the year. If you have a name tag – wear it! If you don’t have one – make one (it can be as simple as your name written in marker on a piece of scrap fabric)! If you notice me staring at your name tag, and then your face – that is exactly what I am doing! During Show and Tell, please tell us your name! Say “hi” and introduce yourself to at least one new person each meeting. I am looking forward to a fun-filled, entertaining, learning and productive year for our Club! From the!Program Committee

SUMMER has been so busy, trying to stay cool, graduations, weddings and reunions. But we did have time to talk about quilting and this is the program committee’s schedule for fall. Our meeting dates are: Sept. 26, 2016, Oct. 24, 2016, Nov 28, 2016, Dec.19, 2016, Jan. 23, 2016, Feb. 27, 2017, Mar. 27, 2017, Apr. 24, 2017, May 22, 2017, and June 12, 2007.

Our banquet was a success, great speaker Clara Pope’s trunk show showed award winning appliqué quilts that were intricate and beautiful. The favors were wonderful gorgeous luggage tags with I love quilting on the name tag. Thank you Linda Aaronson, Linda Tuggey and Sally Majka. The food was varied and delicious. Sally choose well. But we had under 50 par t i c ipants wh ich was disappointing. Any ideas?

Our September 26 meeting is all set with a trunk show by Sue Pritt. She will also bring her patterns to sell. Her work is for beginners to advanced quilters to enjoy, made easy with simple piecing and fusible web appliqué. You can learn more about Sue Pritt at www.sweetseasonquilts.com

Our October 24 meeting features Jackie O’Brien, a member. She will be showcasing Deb Tucker’s rulers which certainly making stars a lot easier. Jackie is a certified instructor for Studio 180 design, check it out. At Studio180 Design certified instructor’s gallery: https://www.studio180design.net

Our November 28 meeting is our basket raffle. The baskets have been beautiful and full of expensive things. This year we would like people to scale back the size. Ask one of your buddies to help you create a basket. Our reasoning is we will get many more baskets and more members will take home prize baskets.

NYS Quilters Consortium News by Michele Ricci and Nancy Landset

We will be attending the next

NYS Consortium meeting on Friday, September 16, 2016 in Painted Post, NY. This meeting is called QCNYS=Quilting Connect ions and there wi l l be the opportunity to meet and speak with 20 teachers who have signed up for the meeting for possible scheduling at any of our future MVQC meetings. They will have samples of their class topics and their calendars with them. The MVQC Program Committee has a list of the teachers and is reviewing it to see where our interests may be. We will give a report at the September MVQC meeting.

At the June Consortium meeting, Nancy and I gave our report to thank the Consortium guild for the $100 Guild Service Grant that we were awarded. The Grant was used for the Neighborhood Center donations of blankets, quilts and cot covers. We included brochures from the Neighborhood Center in Utica/Rome and made a display of the Thank You posters we received from the children. Hopefully, we can display the posters at our Quilt Show next year as well.
