The New York Certification Board (NYCB), a project of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Providers of New York State (ASAP), has as its mission to strengthen health and human services outcomes and enhance the recovery-oriented skills and capacity of the workforce by providing high quality testing, credentialing, and technical assistance.

What are the Benefits of Certification?
Certification identifies professionals who are specialists in their field. Certified professionals are recognized by professional affiliations, state, and
national legislation. Certified professionals have the opportunity for peer networking and
participating in educational events that promote a professional identity Certification increases professionalism in the field. Certification provides a strong basis for employment hiring and professional
advancement. The NYCB can negotiate with certification boards in other states for reciprocity
or work collaboratively with certification organizations like the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) so that NYCB certification can be recognized in other states.
