Impressive back toback wins on the roadat Afan Lido and PortTalbot have taken usback to pole position inthe Corbett SportsWelsh Premier League.
Both performances were onceagain of a very high standardensuring six points from ourtravels to the County of NeathPort Talbot.
Today we entertain PrestatynTown at Park Hall. A warmwelcome to their Directors,Staff, Players and supporterswho have travelled from theNorth Wales coast today.
There has been plenty ofactivity in and around the clubover the past couple of weeksfollowing our 3-0 home winagainst Rhyl earlier in themonth. Once again a crowd ofover 400 witnessed anotherSaints victory and hopefullytoday we will see a similarnumber come through theturnstiles.
It's one of our main objectivesthis season and with thefantastic work we are doingbehind the scenes toencourage people to attendgames at Park Hall, it's startingto pay dividends with ouraverage now reaching almostthe 400 mark. Boys and Girlsfrom Welshpool High Schoolenjoyed their match night withus last time around and
hopefully one or two will beback again for today's game.
Today we are tryingsomething different as weattempt to beat the Worldrecord for the number ofpeople on a pitch keeping aball up. The 'keepy upy'challenge is on and localschools and junior clubs havebeen invited to take part today.
Our academy teams haveonce again been performingwell with victories at all agegroups against LlansantffraidVillage in the FAW AcademyCup and Under 12, 14 and 16age groups. We are taking amini winter break from ourcoaching programme after thisweeks sessions as we enter theFAW Futsal competitions beingstaged again this year atDeeside Leisure Centre.
Steve Evans' young guns had agreat win last weekend in theWelsh Youth Cup beating GapConnahs Quay 3-2 to earn aplace in the quarter final draw.
I had the pleasure of attendingan ECA (European ClubAssociation) Youth WorkingGroup meeting at AFC Ajaxabout ten days ago andthoroughly enjoyed theexperience. They havefantastic facilities and were thepioneers in developing youngtalent and continue to do so.The meeting focused on thetransition of Youth players intofirst team squads with much
debate, something we are keen toencourage here at The NewSaints with our ever improvingScholarship programme. It wasa great networking day withnew contacts made to benefitthe club and our technicalteam.

It has always been a tough game against Prestatyn and inthe last two seasons they have beaten us twice. Weobviously lost to them again earlier on this season, whichwas the last time that we have lost a league game. Thatparticular match was marred by a horrible injury to ChrisMarriott which meant that the game was delayed for overan hour.
Lee Hunt scored a great winning goal in that match andboth the lads and I want revenge. We dominated thegame that day but they did a job on us and despite not
having many shots, they got the win. They will come here today and try andplay on the counter attack but we are more than ready because we are in verygood form at the moment.
I would also like to say that I have noticed that more people are coming to thematches this season and that is credit to the Community team behind thescenes, as it has definitely given the place a bit more of an edge. We playsome great football here and it is represents good value for money so we allhope this can continue. I would also like to ask that when we do get a positiveresult, it would be wonderful to see everyone stay behind for a minute or soand clap the lads off the pitch, as it really will give all of the players a lift.
I hope you enjoy the game!

We have been on agreat run recentlyand there is nosecret behind thesuccess because weall work really hardeach day in training. Each and everytraining session isprecious to usbecause everyone atthe club is alwaysstriving to improveand as a team, we
collectively work hard. We defendtogether, attack together, make mistakestogether but more importantly, we winfootball matches together.
It is very dangerous to think that you havegames in hand because you would preferto have the points in the bag. We are in abetter position than we were around fourweeks ago but that means nothingbecause the league table will start to takereal shape once we can get into the split. If we are in the same position and cancapitalise, on the games in hand thenobviously we will be looking very good. However, that is if we capitalise so it isimportant that we stay focused and carryon trying to win every single game.Nothing will change between now andthe end of the season and we willcertainly not take our foot off the pedal.Complacency is something that I can notstand.
We have come out with six points fromtwo tough away games down in SouthWales. Despite both clubs being near thebottom of the table, they are both verydifficult places to go. Last year we weretrailing to Afan Lido and came back andthat happened again this year. In previousyears, Port Talbot has been somewherewhere we have stuttered but we got twovery good results and I am very pleasedto get back to Park Hall stadium for thePrestatyn game. We have an incrediblehome record and we are also yet toconcede a goal this season at Park Hall. The longer we keep that going the betterand I have always said that the majorityof time, the team with the best defencewill be crowned the champions. We havegot a lot of good players going forwardand the defence has been a real platformfor us to go and win games.
We are approaching January soon andwe will certainly be looking to strengthen.I feel that during every transfer window itis a good to freshen things up andalthough we have a really strong squad, Iam always looking at bringing in moreplayers. We are definitely looking atbringing in at least one player but that hasto be the right player. The player has tohave the right quality and has to be ableto fit in with the excellent squad that wealready have here.
The Big Interview with
Craig HarrisonCraig Harrison spoke to Gilbert Woolley this week about theform of his team, the recent trips down to South Wales and thepossibility of signing players in the upcoming January transferwindow.

Saints so farThe New Saints beat Rhyl 3-0 thanks to goals fromKai Edwards, Mike Wilde and Chris Seargeant at acrowded Park Hall stadium.
A resilient Rhyl side frustrated The Saints for large periods butwith just over an hour gone, Edwards broke the deadlock andWilde made sure of the victory soon after, to give his side a wellearned three points. Deep into injury time, Seargeant addedanother with a great finish from the edge of the box in front ofover 500 passionate supporters. On a cold and wet night in Oswestry, the visitors frustrated TheSaints for the entire first half. Chris Marriott and Seargeant bothhad long range efforts but with Greg Strong’s men lookingdangerous on the counter attack, the first half ended goalless.Ten minutes into the second half, Seargeant whipped in a greatfree kick which Alex Darlington met but the TNS number 20managed to steer his close range effort just wide of the post.Moments later, Darlington found Chris Jones who hit apowerful shot into the side netting, as Rhyl continued to defendfor their lives. However, the deadlock was broken after 64 minutes whenEdwards smashed in from close range. After a succession ofcorners, the former Neath man made no mistake from six yardsout. Phil Baker had initially hit the post and the rebound fellkindly to Edwards who gave Craig Harrison’s side the lead.Despite going a goal behind, Rhyl continued to press forwardbut with 78 minutes gone, Wilde sealed the points. JamieMullan played Simon Spender in and the former Wrexham fullback wonderfully crossed in, before Wilde converted. Theformer Chester City striker powerfully volleyed in leaving Niki-Lee Bulmer with no chance.Deep into injury time, Seargeant added a third with a delightfulfinish from the edge of the box to complete a well fought win.The score also ensured that captain Paul Harrison who prior to
kick off was presented with a commemorative plate, inrecognition of his outstanding contribution, kept another cleansheet, therefore ensuring that TNS have not conceded a homeleague goal this season. The New Saints line up was Paul Harrison (C), Simon Spender,Phil Baker, Kai Edwards, Chris Marriott, Aeron Edwards (SamFinley 57), Chris Seargeant, Alex Darlington (Matty Williams 82),Chris Jones, Jamie Mullan and Greg Draper (Mike Wilde 57).The unused substitutes for TNS were Ryan Kershaw, JordanWells and Aaron Simms. The Rhyl line up was Niki-Lee Bulmer, Matty Woodward, ChrisRimmer, Ryan Astles, Liam Benson, Tom Roberts, Paul McManus(C), Michael Walsh (Danny Laverty 81), Mark Cadwallader, DavidForbes (Steve Lewis 70) and Jason Oswell (Jon Bathurst 70)The unused substitutes for Rhyl were Stefan Halewood, MarkPowell and Ryan Smith.

Saints so farGilbert Woolley takes a look back at our lastthree league games which have produced agreat haul of nine points.
FRIDAY 15TH NOVEMBER 2013AFAN LIDO 1 THE NEW SAINTS 2
The New Saints left it late as they edged past AfanLido, thanks to goals from Chris Marriott and MikeWilde at the Marstons Stadium.
Chris Hartland gave his side the lead at the breakbut an excellent Marriott free kick coupled with alast minute winner from Wilde, ensured the victoryfor The Saints.
TNS started brightly with Chris Seargeant hitting aclose range free kick over the bar and in what wasan even game, neither side created many chancesduring the opening period.
However, on the half hour mark, Hartland sprintedaway from both Phil Baker and Kai Edwards, beforeconverting into the bottom corner. The Lidonumber seven was direct as well as efficient andmade no mistake from just inside the 18 yard boxto give Lido the lead.
Minutes later, Wilde powered a volley just over, after Alex Darlington’s strike had been blocked andsixty seconds later, Jamie Mullan’s fantastic crosswas unfortunately blocked by the stubborn homedefence.
In the last minute of the first half, Chris Jonesattempted a sensational volley from a really tightangle and the former Swansea winger was onlydenied by a flying save from Craig Richards.
The second half started with Lido once againdefending really well and Baker was forced into acrucial interception, as the home side once againlooked dangerous on the break.
Ten minutes after the restart, Marriott levelled thematch. The energetic left back did wonderfully wellto find the bottom corner after Jones had won afree kick for the Champions. The TNS numberthree curled his effort past Richards from 25 yardsout.
Within a minute, Darlington was thwarted frominside the six yard box as The Saints stepped up agear. Despite getting his shot on target, Richardsmade himself big and stopped the formerWrexham man from getting his name on the scoresheet.
Marriott then attempted to turn into a provider andit was his excellent delivery from a corner thatBaker met but headed over the bar, as TNScontinued to look for the winning goal.
Harrison sent on Matty Williams and Greg Draperin search of the three points and it nearly camethrough Marriott. The Saints won another free kickand the TNS goal scorer was desperately unluckyto see his magnificent free kick fly over the wall, only for it to hit the post and bounce back out.
The Oswestry based side continued to press and asthe match approached stoppage time, Wilde met apowerful corner with a bullet header to ensure adramatic victory. The former Chester City forwardfound space and converted to give his side a veryimportant win in South Wales.
SUNDAY 24TH NOVEMBER 2013PORT TALBOT TOWN 1 THE NEW SAINTS 3
The New Saints comfortably beat Port Talbot threeone thanks to goals from Mike Wilde, Kai Edwardsand Sam Finley.
Wilde opened the scoring midway through the firsthalf but within minutes, David Brooks equalisedfrom the penalty spot. Edwards gave his side thelead before the hour mark and Finley added a thirdjust after it to clinch the points.
TNS started brightly and after only five minutesFinley hit a looping effort against the bar from theedge of the box.
Soon after Chris Marriott missed the target fromclose range after being superbly picked out byChris Jones. The left back found himself in the boxbut his right footed effort went well wide of thegoal.

Wilde then took advantage from a bad Leigh DeVulgt mistake to give his side the lead. The formerChester City forward composed himself and madeno mistake as he passed the ball past Steven Hall toopen the scoring on 22 minutes.
Minutes later Port Talbot were level. AlexDarlington gave away a penalty after foulingBrooks and the Port Talbot winger picked himselfup and converted the spot kick to level the match.Darlington then missed a chance to put his sideback in front but managed to fire over from closerange, to ensure that the teams went into the halftime break level.
The second half started with bad news for CraigHarrison after Phil Baker went down with an injury. The consistent defender was replaced by ConnellRawlinson, who himself had just returned from thetreatment room.
However, within five minutes, there was somegood news for Harrison. Wilde wonderfully headeda Chris Seargeant corner into Edwards’ path andthe former Neath defender smashed the ball infrom inside the six yard box to restore the lead forhis team.
Minutes later it was three. Finley picked up the ballon the edge of the box and drove an unstoppableshot into the bottom corner. The energeticmidfielder found space and his right footedthunderbolt was too much for Hall to handle.
Wilde nearly made it four but Hall stopped hisvolley from close range after some good workdown the right from the impressive Finley.
With The Saints in complete control, both Wildeand Jones once again tested the Port Talbotgoalkeeper as the Welsh Premier LeagueChampions looked to add more goals.
No more goals came but the result means that theOswestry based side have now win six leaguegames in a row.
The New Saints line up was Paul Harrison (C),Simon Spender, Chris Marriott, Phil Baker (ConnellRawlinson 51), Kai Edwards, Aeron Edwards, ChrisSeargeant, Alex Darlington (Ryan Fraughan 72),Sam Finley, Chris Jones and Mike Wilde.

We also have some exciting fixtures in the coming weeks playing bothLiverpool and Manchester Utd. This proved to be an excellent outing lastseason, we found it tough but feel that the boys will gain invaluableexperiences from visits like this. Its testament to all of the academy playersand the club that we are invited to these clubs and we continue to play the bigger academies year in year out.
Finally, The New Saints Football Club will be hosting two very special nights inDecember to congratulate everyone associated with the successful TNSAcademy for all of the hard work during 2013.
On the 14th of December, The Venue will be the setting for a fantastic threecourse meal for all of the Academy parents that have supported both theAcademy, as well as The New Saints FC, over the course of the year.
Enjoy the game,
Scott
