CV vs. Resume

➔A resume is a brief summary of your skills and experience over one or two pages

➔A CV is more detailed, in-depth document that includes:◆Education◆On-going Degrees◆Professional Development◆Accomplishments - Publications, Awards, Honors

➔ The resume will be tailored to each position whereas the CV typically doesn’t change for different positions

Resume Formatting Trends

The typical resume length is one to two pages. However, it’s okay to have a resume longer than two pages.

➔ Applicants are using more modern font styles and don’t use too small of a font size.

➔ Applicants are leaving off their personal mailing address.➔ When listing dates of employment you can leave off the month

◆ Example: using 2014 – 2016 instead of March, 2014 – November, 2016

27

15

Resume Elements

➔The Summary Paragraph needs to contain:◆A Value Proposition – a statement that tells employers why they

should hire you instead of someone else◆Your technical strengths

◆How do you build rapport and interact with patients

◆How do you interact with physicians and staff◆This can be written in a paragraph or bullet format.

Develop A Negotiating Script

➔Initiate Negotiations – Don’t Wait.

➔Show Gratitude “Thank you so much for this offer to work with a great team.”

➔Ask for permission to discuss the offer. “I would like to ask a few questions about the contract you sent to me.”
