The chemistry and thus the properties of the TMT Bars get compromised by the presence of
the harmful impurities like sulphur and phosphorous, in extreme weather conditions. The
advanced steel making process and practice can reduce the level of these impurities.
BIS has introduced the new category of bars called ‘D’- Ductile. Electrotherm has now a
dedicated production facility where 100% bars- 500D LPS is now produced in compliance with
500D grade specifications of BIS.
And the result is a revolution that places Electro TMT on par with the primary producers in the
ductile category of TMT bars!
TMT bars are the backbone of every structure; deep rooted in the foundation they bear the
load of building -slabs, beams, columns and of course the live load of the people and their
belongings. And as the strength of every structure, the TMT bars have to be ready to
withstand the loads like wind/storm, earthquake also. As the largest selling TMT
Bars of Gujarat, Electro TMT has carried forward the responsibility of staying the
very best, very sincerely and in keeping with the tradition of being a leader, we have
innovated and moved a step ahead now with the introduction of LPS 500D, TMT
bars made with 100% Iron Ore as metallic input.
Redefining steel making, Electrotherm has developed Fe 500D grade TMT bars
through the 100% iron ore plus refining route. It is the first time in India that TMT
bars have been produced through this route to meet the changing and more
stringent needs of the customers.

Process PerfectionŸ We have completely eliminated the use of Scrap in 500D LPS
grade.
Ÿ The new process uses 100% Iron Ore in place of scrap.
Ÿ This is achieved through the use of a combination of Blast
furnace-Sponge iron kilns-Induction melting furnace-Refining
furnace route.
Ÿ Good quality of Iron Ore is used in Blast Furnace of 128m3 and
Direct Reduced Iron Kilns of 250 and 350 TPD.
Ÿ 100% Iron Ore (hot metal from blast furnace and sponge iron
from kilns) and no scrap is used in the melting process.
Ÿ To meet the stringent phosphorous and sulphur requirement
of FE 500D grade of TMT bars, after melting the DRI from kilns and
hot metal from blast furnace in the induction furnaces, a unique
and patented ERF-ELdFOSTM metallurgical process is used to
dephosphorize the steel in the Ladle and desulphurize the steel
in Electrotherm Ladle Refining Furnace (ERF).
Ÿ Multi stage testing of steel chemistry is done through
spectrometer to ensure adherence to chemistry in close
tolerance.
Ÿ In the ERF:
Ÿ 1) Metal is also homogenized 2) Alloying elements are added
and controlled in a very narrow range 3) Dissolved gases in the
steel are lowered through mild purging of inert gases and
4) Inclusions are removed or altered chemically to ensure high
quality of steel.
Ÿ This refined steel is cast into billets of required sizes in closed
environment to have further control of gases and other inclusions.
Ÿ Molten Pig Iron (hot metal) from Blast Furnace and directly
reduced Iron (DRI/Sponge) from Kilns [=100% iron ore] is the key to
making superior quality TMT bars free from tramp elements like
Cu, V, Ni, Cr etc.
