SUNDAY MASS TIMES:- *ST IGNATIUS Toowong Saturday 6.00pm (Vigil); Sunday 7.00am & 5.00pm. Reconciliation: Saturday from 5.15pm to 5.45pm, or by appointment.

*HOLY SPIRIT Auchenflower: Sunday 8.30am.

This gospel text is hardly likely to ever be voted a favourite.

It’s not too much to imagine that

Jesus spoke these hard sayings more in sorrow than condemnation.

Luke has assembled material found in different places in Matthew and prefaced it with the reminder

that Jesus is on his way to Jerusalem. This provides an interpretative key for these sayings of Jesus.

Facing increasing opposition and eventual denial and rejection he has made his choice. He know how high

the stakes are. He will not flinch, he will not flee. He has chosen to go through the narrow door. He will not settle for easy companionship. Nor must those

who want to enter the realm of God.

ANNUAL APPEAL to be held in our Parish 3—4 September.

Through Jesuit Mission’s Parish Appeal, you can help Jesuit Mission to nurture our global community of faith and justice. We work with local partners in over 12 countries to help God’s most vulnerable people transform their lives and build brighter futures.

Borei from Cambodia has been living with blindness but through the Light of Mercy Home, supported by Jesuit Mis-sion, he has discovered education and music. “Look at me now. I can communicate with others. I can do many things with my friends. I can sing. It’s a blessing.” The Home was established to empower a new generation of Cambodian children to enjoy a full life.

Your donation to Parish Appeal on weekend 3—4 Sept. can empower others like Borei. There will be a collection at Masses, or you can donate at www.jesuitmission.org.au - select ‘Toowong Parish Appeal’ from dropdown menu. NB. Jesuit Mission envelopes are always available from the rotary stands at both churches.

OUR MISSION PRAYER

We, the St Ignatius community, are called to live the good news. We pray that we become the people that Jesus Christ called us to be. We pray that we know the Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit

through knowing Jesus in prayer, scripture and liturgy. We pray that we give hope to others by a practical, personal kindness, affirming each person's dignity, worth and destiny in Christ. May we live out this mission of our Christian vocation in the spirit of St. Ignatius.

God help up To rise up from our struggle.

Like a tree rises up from the soil.

Our roots reaching down to our trouble, Our rich, dark dirt of existence.

Finding nourishment deeply

And holding us firmly. Always connected.

Growing upwards and into the sun.

Amen.

Michael Leuing.
