Welcome to

Canterbury CathedralOctober-December 2017

Canterbury Cathedral is the Mother Church of the worldwide Anglican Communion and seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Cathedral is both a holy place and part of a World Heritage Site which includes St Augustine’s Abbey and St Martin’s Church. It remains one of the most visited places in the country, and, just as importantly, a working, living church and community.

As well as worship, Canterbury Cathedral offers an exciting programme of arts and culture activities, events and exhibitions. It is widely regarded as a centre of excellence for music, traditional crafts, education and learning.

You are welcome to join us for all special services taking place during this Advent and Christmas season. In addition, the Cathedral is hosting an exciting exhibition as part of the Canterbury Festival, and in November we are hosting our first collections conference on The Black Prince, which is accompanied by special evening events and free public talks.

The Cathedral plays an active role in the community and the building, or parts of it, are at times closed for general visiting due to services, special events or conservation work. Therefore, please always check opening times before visiting.

The Cathedral and Precincts are huge and even when major parts of the Cathedral are closed for visiting, there will still be plenty to explore.

The Tapestry of Light:Intersections of IlluminationCanterbury Cathedral is delighted to be the premier venue for the UK tour of The Tapestry of Light - a contemporary exploration of the classical iconography of the ‘Last Days’.

Spanning an outstanding 36 metres long by 3.2 metres high, this is an immersive expression of art and design interlinked with new science, illumination, colour and medieval imagery in a present day context. It is one of the only full cycles of the Apocalypse by a female artist.

She is a painter, installation and new media artist working also with performance drawing and spatial kinesthetic.
