June 3, 2018

Dear Parishioners,

Mass of Healing Petitioning Christ to heal Parishioners and our Beloved Saint Joseph Parish As people, we are very much aware that situations in life and our world can wound us. When wounds, hurts, sorrows, anger and the like are left untreated, they can fester, infect and poison. How often do we ask Jesus to heal what sin has damaged. How often do we ask Jesus to heal grieving souls. Too often have we prayed for Jesus to heal victims and families of mass shootings. Many a person who has gone through a separation and divorce has asked the Lord to heal them.

On Thursday evening, June 7 at 7 PM, we will have a Mass of Healing. You are invited to attend to either pray for personal healing or to pray for the souls of others in our parish, nation, and/or world to heal. The Scriptures proclaim the healing power of God restoring life. The healing power of God at work in Jesus not only graced people in need of physical healing but also those in need of spiritual and emotional healing as well.

The symbol/logo for Doctors and healing is seen on ambulances, Blue Cross cards, and vehicles used by first responders, and elsewhere. The logo is a snake wrapped around a pole. The symbol dates back to the Old Testament when the Jewish people were living and journeying through the desert on their way to the Promised Land. These people became disgruntled. They became irritable. Life was hard and difficult. It affected their dispositions, outlook, temperament, their faith, hope, and love. It was as if they had been bit by a poisonous snake. All of this prevented them from being the people God called them to be. These people were in need of healing.

Moses spoke to God about what was happening. God directed Moses to take a snake (saraph serpent) and wrap it around a pole. God told Moses to hold the pole up high for the people to see. God told Moses to tell the people who wanted to be healed of all that was afflicting, poisoning, souring, spoiling life within them to look upon it in faith, with a desire for God to heal. All who did so were healed.

In the Gospel, Jesus says, “Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up (on the cross)” Jesus invites all in need of inner, spiritual healing to gaze upon the crucifix with faith in the Lord’s power to heal.

You are invited to join us as we prayerfully gaze upon the crucifix and humbly ask Jesus to heal. Wounds, hurt, pain, sorrow, injuries, anger left untreated can infect, fester, poison, and give life to bitterness, cynicism which is cancerous to a human soul that was created to be filled with faith, hope, love, joy, peace, etc.

May the healing power and presence of Jesus enable the people and parish of Saint Joseph to flourish as the Lord envisions.

Karen Dawson Karen Dawson who is employed by the Parish as Parish Services Director and Adult Faith Formation

Coordinator has taken a medical leave of absence.

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we dedicate this month of June to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we ask you to grant to us compassionate hearts; hearts rich with your love, embraced by your compassion. Grant us generous hearts: hearts that never count the cost; hearts that seek to serve and not be served. Grant us hearts that love peace: hearts that promote truth and justice, transform hatred and anger, and seek unity and reconciliation. Grant us hearts of a steward: hearts that are filled with gratitude, eager to share, and long to give back to you. Grant us hearts filled with your Spirit: hearts open to conversion, filled with hope, and on fire with your Word. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen

The Loaves and Fishes

Project

With the Loaves and Fishes Project, giving is as easy as 1-2-3:

• Grab a can of soup, a box of pasta, or any non-

perishable item from your cupboard as you dash out the door to Mass.

• Drop off your donation in the “Loaves and Fishes” closet on your right as you come into church.

• Enter the church with the warm feeling of a nourished soul!

The Loaves and Fishes team delivers the items to the Lord’s Pantry in Downingtown. Feel free to contribute to this “ongoing food drive” once a week, once a month, once a year - anytime. As a church family, we can make a much appreciated contribution and a significant impact to a charity that helps over 700 families every week.

Please contact Nancy Farrington at [email protected] or 610-620-3619 for more info.

Good Works, Partner Church Perhaps you are looking for a way to make a difference in someone's life? Join us as we partner with Good Works, on the third Saturday of the month (volunteer one month or every month) to make repairs on a home of someone in need. Bring along your teenage children, no experience is required. Make a difference in someone's life, while enjoying Christian fellowship, and even a good lunch! Email [email protected] to sign up.

Bridge of Hope In this ministry, parishioners form teams to sponsor a single mother facing homelessness. The team provides friendship to the woman and her family by taking turns calling her, spending time together, and being a reliable support structure at a time when she most needs encouragement.
