The Cigarette Commute: Summering in Paris and Musings Thereof

In the center of Paris (I dare not call it the heart, after all), the stores, the cheese, the people, even the firm I work for: everything seems imported… Can you even hear that Frenchman, though, protesting amidst the sea of tourists? Then, at approximately six o’clock in the evening, the city loses its caution and that aforementioned sea suddenly parts. And you see Paris and its people in the flesh. I call it, the cigarette commute. Of course, the phenomenon is the one image I could never capture on film to place next to my framed Eiffel Tower. Know Before You Go: Tips for Working Abroad

Although it usually doesn’t feel like it, law school is a gift — a time to try a lot of different things without causing anyone to blink or question your commitment to any particular career path. - Eileen Kuo, 3L

Hello From Geneva However, no matter how pretty the ice capped mountains or how breathtaking Lake Léman could be, nothing quite matched the beauty of a large, overstuffed Chipotle burrito. It has been a truly wonderful summer, but I am very happy to come back home to New York. - Nirali Parikh, 2L

Regardless of whom they are speaking to or what kind of time crunch they are working under, good lawyers are always courteous, gentle, and firm. - David Lee, 2L

The 2L Summer Socialite’s Guide to

Biglaw

So there we have it – your inside look at how to live the high life at a variety of firms; or alternatively, where you should make friends and snag a plus-one spot. It has been a wild summer getting to pretend I belong at these events… It’s been fun testing the old adage “the grass is always greener on the other side.”’ I took a stroll on the other side this summer, and it’s not grass at all – people are just walking on stacks of money. - Madiba Dennie, 3L

The Drift from Public to Private: What Happens at the Split Road?

All in all, through all the hurdles and uncertainties that come with striving towards careers in the public sector, what compels CLS students to pursue these careers is often the sense of pride in being part of the broader fight for social justice. Ultimately, even for those who aspire to make mid-career transitions from Biglaw to government, the pursuit of public service-oriented experiences during law school can lead to smoother transitions and allow them to maintain faith in their own commitment towards the greater good. - Prateek Vasireddy, 3L
