The Modern Silk Road Connecting China and Europe The Silk Road, an ancient trade route that stretched from Xi’an to Rome, was established over two thousand years ago under the Han and the Tang dynasties, two of the greatest Chinese empires. Today, the Chinese government is creating a modern version of the Silk Road through a strategy known as ‘Belt & Road’ (B&R), designed to promote connectivity and trade. ‘Belt’ is the new overland rail network service connecting China with Europe. ‘Road’ is the maritime route that links the two regions through the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans. Increasing Trade China is one of the world’s largest economies, while the European Union and China are two of the biggest international traders. Between China and the EU, trade has grown dramatically in recent years, reaching over 1 billion a day by 2014. With the launch of B&R and the faster, more efficient logistics network that it provides, there is enormous potential for further growth. On the Right Track At Prologis, we believe ‘Belt & Road’ offers unprecedented trade opportunities for companies in both Europe and China. An increasing number of our customers are using rail freight as an additional mode of transportation within their logistics operations, so we are particularly pleased that the Chinese government supports rail network services in both directions. For companies transporting large volumes of freight between Europe and China, rail is more cost-effective than air cargo and twice as fast as the 40-45 day journey by sea. Efficient rail freight operations depend on multimodal terminals and high quality distribution buildings. Prologis has invested in rail-connected and rail-adjacent logistics parks in both Europe and China, all of which provide Class-A facilities and links to the B&R rail infrastructure. Are you interested in exploring the possibilities of shipping goods between Europe and China via rail? If so, our rail company contacts based in both Europe and China would be happy to provide further information. The Modern Silk Road Connecting China and Europe

The Silk Road, an ancient trade route that stretched from Xi’an to Rome,

was established over two thousand years ago under the Han and the

Tang dynasties, two of the greatest Chinese empires. Today, the Chinese

government is creating a modern version of the Silk Road through a strategy

known as ‘Belt & Road’ (B&R), designed to promote connectivity and trade.

‘Belt’ is the new overland rail network service connecting China with Europe.

‘Road’ is the maritime route that links the two regions through the Western

Pacific and Indian Oceans.

Increasing TradeChina is one of the world’s largest economies, while the European Union and

China are two of the biggest international traders. Between China and the EU,

trade has grown dramatically in recent years, reaching over 1 billion a day by

2014. With the launch of B&R and the faster, more efficient logistics network

that it provides, there is enormous potential for further growth.

On the Right TrackAt Prologis, we believe ‘Belt & Road’ offers unprecedented trade opportunities

for companies in both Europe and China. An increasing number of our

customers are using rail freight as an additional mode of transportation within

their logistics operations, so we are particularly pleased that the Chinese

government supports rail network services in both directions.

For companies transporting large volumes of freight between Europe and China,

rail is more cost-effective than air cargo and twice as fast as the 40-45 day

journey by sea. Efficient rail freight operations depend on multimodal terminals

and high quality distribution buildings. Prologis has invested in rail-connected

and rail-adjacent logistics parks in both Europe and China, all of which provide

Class-A facilities and links to the B&R rail infrastructure.

Are you interested in exploring the possibilities of shipping goods between

Europe and China via rail? If so, our rail company contacts based in both Europe

and China would be happy to provide further information.
