A Message from Father Jesse….

As summer approaches, and we begin the Season After Pentecost (green forever!), I want to say a few works of thanks to so many of you who have worked so hard this pro-gram year to make St. Mark’s what it is. St. Mark’s does not have a huge budget to pay a lot of staff; we are only able to do so many things because we have dedicated volun-teers willing to serve. In particular, as we end this spring semester, a huge thanks goes to our Christian Education team for a great year: Lori Poston and Jon Pucik who lead EYC; Rose Mary Latanich for her leadership with K-6 graders, along with Matt Smith, Barbara Cart, Ashley Brunkhorst. And for all of you who brought food, and in particular Holli Davis, Kirsten Penley, and Rhinda Kesselring who helped serve and cleanup after the meal. This coming fall, we will need some new volunteers as several of these can no longer serve in this capacity. If you have ever thought about helping out in children’s ministry on Wednesday nights (or for children’s chapel on Sunday mornings), we need your help! Talk with Rose Mary or myself if you are willing and interested. Christian Ed on Wednesday evenings will resume after Rally Day in September. Children’s chap-el on Sunday mornings will continue through the summer. While Christian Education takes a needed respite, we are beginning work on a new pic-torial directory! Please sign up at church for a time slot to have your family picture tak-en. Slots are available throughout June and July. Lastly, I want to tell you about a new way to contribute financially at St. Mark’s. As a part of a larger enrollment throughout the Diocese, St. Mark’s has joined Tithe.ly and now accepts donations online and from mobile phone apps. Ladybugs
St. Mark's EYC ended the year by completing their service project for Consolidated Youth Services. Through the Wall O' Money fundraiser, the group raised over $700 to purchase items for current and incoming residents including toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, and even a few board games. Altogether, we were able to make about 40 individual care packages, each including a hand-written card from one of our students.
Thank you for supporting our youth as they continue to be the hands and feet of Christ in our community.
St. Mark’s EYC
St. Mark’s is preparing to create a new pictorial directory this sum-mer!! We have so many new faces in our pews each week, and it is time to print a new directory so we can better know each other and stay in contact. There is a big sign up sheet at church in the narthex
with time slots for your family’s picture. Amber Johnson will be volunteering her time and taking the pictures, and we will be printing the directories “in house” this year.

Christian Education
We ended Christian Education sessions for the summer with a special family ice cream social on May 11. After families created and ate their ice cream sundaes, children who participated in St. Mark’s Christian Ed program were presented with Certificates of Participation. Gift certificates from Andy’s Frozen Custard were presented to stu-dents with perfect attendance for the semester, Maggie Gray, James (JJ) , Elizabeth Matthews, Olivia-Joy Langford, and Rowan Pringle received these certificates.
Thank you to Barbara Cart and Matthew Stone for volunteering to teach for this past year. Their will-ingness to serve was a blessing not only for the children but for me. Thank also to parents and parish-ioners who supported Christian Education by providing meals on Wednesday evening. Special thanks to Rhinda Kesselring and Stephanie Matthews for helping serve meals and clean up.
Our hope for the fall semester is to have a separate class for our kindergarten stu-dents. Please remember parents and parishioners we need your help. Please consid-er sharing your time and talents with Christian Education for children in the fall. We need you. For more information about how you can have the opportunity to be in-volved with Christian Ed, speak with either Father Jesse or Rose Mary Latanich. Have a great summer.
Liturgy of the Word with Children
Liturgy of the Word with Children is a liturgical worship service designed espe-cially for children. Children listen to the Sunday readings, sing, pray and prac-tice church traditions. We welcome children three years of age to 5
th grade to
take part in this ministry during the 10:00am service.
Volunteers are needed to teach the lessons each week, as well as to assist with the supervision of the children. This is a great opportunity for adults and high school youth to help these eager youngsters learn the Word of the Lord.

Save the date! St. Mark vacation bible school is scheduled from August 1 through August 4. More about our VBS theme and info about registration will be made available as we get closer to the date. Kids entering kindergarten and completing fifth grade are encouraged to join us for VBS.
I am planning on coordinating another fabulous VBS program for our parish but please keep in mind that in order to do so, I will need the commitment from par-ents and parishioners. We will need individuals to help lead: Bible stories, crafts, games and music. Do pray and consider what role you would like to have to make this ministry a reality for our parish. St. Mark's Day School started off with a bang this summer! The first day of summer began May 23rd and will conclude July 29th. We have 128 children enrolled this summer. We still have a few random openings so if anyone knows a mom that would like a day or two for relaxing, shopping, or lunch with friends tell them to give us a call! The teachers have many fun activities planned and the children always love the water days! Looking forward to a great summer! Peggy
